Mother of god :O 100mb

Yep... They are scarily massive. Ironically because the image is SO detailed it actually means you spend a lot of time in post processing making people look better because the camera can pick up every hair and pore on the skin, and it's often not super flattering.

DroidLife; HTC One (M8) Review
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/04/07/htc-one-m8-review/

Battery life sucks on the M8 ?

HTC claims that the new One (M8) could see upwards of 40% better battery life over last year’s M7, but I’m not I’m buying it. I saw average battery life in my testing on the 2,600mAh battery that wasn’t necessarily greatly improved over last year’s One. My testing typically includes multiple days in a row of nothing but 4G LTE, followed by a few with WiFi mixed in. On 4G LTE-only days, my phone was almost always begging for a charger after 10-12 hours of use and around 3 hours of screen-on time.

Per this review they say battery life is average at best, and not that good, only getting 3h On Screen time, and overall just like 10h - 12h of total battery life on the phone, and with WiFi on they get 14 hours total battery life.

I thought all the real world reviews of people, and other sites were raving about the battery life on this new One M8 ? getting like 5h to 6h On Screen time ?

Erm I trust Chris Nacca over droid life

I do....

Will upload some to a server or such and post link at later date, I have a 50mp Hassleblad that I use in the studio here for portraits and such .. However shots from that are 100mb each

Also have a Canon EOS 600D ...

But other than using them for jobs / client work I tend to not take them when I go walking or go climbing.

The thought of taking a €16k camera and €3k plus lense up a mountain scares me too much. So the Hassleblad hardly ever leaves the studio, and the 600D and it's lenses are at times impractical to carry (weight and size) with me, so I do like a decent camera in my smartphone as it's the thing I will reach for for capturing that impulse snap...

Ah. See the thing here is that your work is related to cameras so you would be say, far more critical then me. I have a Nexus 4 and dont hate the camera even though it could be better and j feel that I could live with the One's ultra pixel camera.

Come on now, the camera certainly is not horrible. If every camera must be as good as the current best or nothing then how did people survive with cameras in phones a few generations ago. I guarantee I can go back and see people raving about how incredible the iphone 4(any flagship from years past) camera is and I would wager any of these new flagships are well past that. Just because it isnt the best doesnt mean it is bad by any stretch

I'm sorry but I don't see the advantage in going from an excellent phone camera (SGS3) to a worst one. That simple.

It may not be bad for some people, but coming from a phone that takes excellent pictures IMO it would be pointless to change to one that's a downgrade.

I take lots of pictures and videos.

If I were to downgrade I would go for the Moto G before the M8.

Exactly right :)

Yep it's hard to ignore scenery like this every day (taken this morning)

Safe travelling :)

Exactly!

I too live in an amazing place with great weather all year, great beaches and landscapes. It's a place where a good camera is a must.

Chris is realistic and I believe his opinions. His battery life video shows that the M8 battery life is amazing.

I'm pretty sure the camera on the One is going to take better pictures than your SGS3, just at a lower resolution. That was his point, it may not take pictures as good as the new flagships but is better than say the iPhone 4 or SGS3, flagships of years past.

M8 has the best battery life of all smartphones at the moment (incl. Note 3).

Pictures are also very good and thanks to the fast focus they are always sharp compared to my Note 3.

Here are some charts from Anandtech:

The M8 is a great phone! It is fast and has great battery life! But sorry.....the camera is just not up to todays standards. My year old S4 takes better pictures.
I had the M8 for a few days. It takes good pictures...but the colors are washed out and nothing pops. Sorry but 4MP no matter how to tweak it is still 4MP....

Agreed. I just can't imagine why HTC made such a bone-headed decision.

I went to look at the M8 today, and although I only found two places in town with working phones rather than dummies these are my initial thoughts...

The edges of the screen itself seem sharp, not excessively but definitely not flush.

The on screen home and back buttons at the bottom are badly placed, when typing it's quite easy to press the home button instead of the space bar.

The device felt quite tall, but nothing you couldn't get used to. Overall a very nice device but for now I'll keep my 5s but in no way am I not ready to get another android phone and the m8 was a really nice device, just felt for me those things might annoy me in the long run...

Sharp you serious, compared to a 5S their smooth. Never touched the on screen buttons when typing, one of the great things is there is no physical home button. Doesn't take long to get used to the size. Glad i sold my 5S for it. The screen, speed, speakers, no home button and notification light and screen gestures is what i am enjoying. Call quality is the best i have had on a phone. Aslo battery is insane i am getting 2 days my 5S one day.

edit: i see what you mean the screen sort of sits up a bit from the edges, its not sharp like a 5S though the sides are rounded.

If the M8 has so great battery life I wonder how good will it be on devices with the new Snapdragon 805. Does anyone know if it brings considerable improvements in battery life?

I have both devices at home and shot various pics with both and then compare them on my imac. In 80% the pics from my M8 are better, with more vivid colors, more viewing are and they are always sharp. I have 3 kids, when i use my note 3 for pics with movement i need at least 3 tries until i have a sharp photo.

Really? Wow yours must be the exception then. Can you post side by side un edited pics? I get my S5 today. I have pics I posted earlier in this thread when I had the M8. I will take the same pics with the S5 and post them. Every review site says the M8 takes good pics. But the color does not pop and the details are not the same as other higher MP cameras. A 4 MP camera is still a 4 MP camera no matter what you do do it.

not trolling at all I actually HAD the M8 for a week. See my earlier posts. But you Robster3....have you ever had the S5 that you always want to put down in the S5 thread?.......have you preordered it or even have any intention of getting the phone? thought so you just want to slam it to validate your choices of the M8.

What is everybody's problem with 4mp, even my 27 inch iMac has a less resolution than the pictures from my m8. You cannot see a difference until you zoom in all the time!

Awesome! Enjoy your phone! The M8 is an awesome phone! It is very fast...the battery last almost 30 hours for me when I had it. The looks and feel of the phone is very very top notch! :) Enjoy!

It's more for me when I print. If your printing a picture at decent 300dpi, the 2660x1550 image at 72dpi hasn't really got enough detail to print above 4x6 size.

Basically the 72dpi is a quarter of the 300dpi used for decent printing, meaning you certainly won't be blowing them up beyond a small print. No 10x8, 12x16 or 16x20 prints from those.
