I hear you about the top power button, it has it's advantages.

I hate when I press the power button on the side of the gs4 while putting it in my pocket.

I won't be buying a Samsung device again despite really liking the Note 3 simply because of the whole KNOX warranty void.

Yup, samsung is now actively forcing everyone to stick with their bloated crap. The GS4 is pretty much the last samsung phone for me. IF i do buy an android device in the future, its pretty much going to be a nexus (no GEs sold in Canada). I will gladly give up a better camera on a galaxy for a much cleaner and leaner android on a nexus.

Hopefully the leaked pictures aren't true and there is some sort of design change. They need to move the power button to the side.

Am I the only one who didn't mind the power button on the HTC one.

I never miss-pressed it like I always do on the bloody Note 3. Everytime I go to press volume down or up in one hand I invariably squeeze and thereby hit the power button at the same time as trying to adjust volume.... Drives me nuts !!

It's a pretty common complaint. Ergonomically it doesn't make much sense to place it on the top of such a large device. I and many others can't use the One after waking it without shifting our hand down. Whereas with the S4 and other large phones with the wake button on the right I can use it immediately after waking it without needing to shift my hand. I will not consider the M8 if HTC keeps the power button on the top.

I know some have had the same issue you apparently had but after using the S4 for 6 months I never once accidentally hit the volume rocker.

My only complaints about my current "One" is the camera, purple tint issue and lack of detail. And the battery life. So if the rumors of the m8 are true then I'll be getting it. Bigger screen, bigger battery, higher mp count should help with some detail. Already love the build. Sounds like a win to me. That render with the huge HTC logo is a head scratcher though.

For some reason, I actually like that recent pic over the first one with generally looks the same as the M7 except the dual cam/LED and the omission of the Beats Audio logo of course.

I really like the black strip and that shiny metal. I still like the M7's design more on the front as I'm one of those rare people that actually likes capacitive buttons over on-screen buttons. All my Androids have been that way and I just prefer it. Plus the little details like sensors on the left and selfie cam on the right which gives it a more balance look and that useless but beautiful HTC watermark in between the back and home button. I actually prefer it with two buttons only. I have very little mistakes texting especially when I press that spacebar which is slightly above the on-screen home button in most current flagships.

I would have been content with the same design but a better cam and bigger battery life. As much as it will be improved over the predecessor, it will be tough if the sequel tops the original in terms of freshness and magic. Even the name may sound confusing or crappy (One 2?). If it is One+ this year, then what will it be called next year? One 3? One + 2 = 3? One++? HTC Three? HTC is now trying to be our math teacher?

Still with trivialized naming aside, I'm hoping HTC does succeed even though I expect the S5, Note 4, and iPhone 6 to continue to destroy HTC in the sales department. I would love to upgrade to another HTC next year when my upgrade is up. But the company needs to fix some of their financial troubles this year which still looks like a longshot. Likely an iPhone for me again next year esp if I plan to get a MacBook Air this year.

Someone has suggested that these are photos of a M8 mini. It seems likely, if you consider the size of this phone in his hand. I hope they're right - I really don't dig the black HTC strip there if there's going to be virtual buttons on the screen as well. Not in love with that glossy finish either, or how close to the glass the bezel curves start.

Wow. In real life it looks terrible IMO, specially the back.

And, of course, the HTC logo in the front taking a lot of space.

To me it looks like the M8, not the mini. Mini will be 4,3-4,5 screen and this one looks taller.

Why would it have two rear-facing cameras anyway?

What would be the spec. of each one?

Go research LYTRO

Basically two camera would allow similar ability to refocus a photo after the event.

----------

Is there a projection for the release yet?

I'd hazard a guess at March. So many leaks with devices clearly out in wilds (albeit trade events) so it won't be long.

I imagine they are waiting for Samsung to launch / announce the S5, and then HTC will announce the HTC One 2014 in order to take away some of the S5 limelight. It would make the most marketing sense.

HTC just destroyed a beautiful design, the new HTC One 2 looks ugly to be honest. Not going to buy it.

Hard to say without see better pictures than the Mr. Blurry Cam above. Either way I won't be buying it either as I'm perfectly happy with my current HTC One.

This is awesome

http://bgr.com/2014/02/18/htc-cracked-screen-replacement-free-htc-advantage/

HTC makes some of the greatest smartphones in the world — in fact, last year’s flagship HTC One is easily still one of the best Android phones that has ever launched — and now consumers in the United States have yet another reason to consider HTC when purchasing their next smartphone. The Taiwan-based vendor on Tuesday announced a new program called HTC Advantage, an industry first that takes much of the pain out of one of the most painful things that can happen to your smartphone.

In the few moments following the point at which your smartphone slips out of your hand, time seems to slow down as the device spirals toward the ground. Then, following the inevitable impact, the sweat begins to build on your brow as you reach down and retrieve your phone to see whether or not the handset’s glass face has cracked.

For people in the U.S. who buy HTC smartphones moving forward, that fateful moment will soon be followed by a sigh of relief.

HTC Advantage is a new free program that will automatically accompany every HTC One series smartphone sold in the U.S. beginning immediately. In a nutshell, the program guarantees two things: first, HTC promises that it will continue update its smartphones to the latest version of Android for up to two years following launch. Second, in the event that an HTC One series smartphone owner cracks the screen on his or her phone within the first six months of purchasing it, HTC will replace the cracked display for free.

“We recognize that people spend good money to buy smartphones. Creating premium products that offer customers the best and latest has always been the HTC way, and now we’re carrying that commitment beyond the handset purchase to ensure customers remain satisfied beyond day one,” HTC Americas president Jason Mackenzie said. “In line with our history of firsts, we want to be the first to protect the investment customers make in our premium devices.”

Is there a way (app? launcher?) to allow a double tap of the screen to wake a device a la 'knock knock'? (Without rooting.) I ask because if the M8 keeps the power/wake button on the top I would need a way to wake the phone that doesn't require such a reach. (For me to even consider purchasing it.)

No. You need root.

So the 'mid range' Desire is getting a nice 13mp camera - I hope to god HTC sort this out on the new device.

EV confirmed the Mini M8 is getting a 13 MP shooter. It's a given the flagship will get the same.

If it gets a 13mp camera, I will likely trade in my Note 3 for it. I prefer Sense over Touchwiz.

TouchWiz is getting a redesign. I expect to look wildly different this time out. You'll need to see how it has changed before knowing what you'll prefer.

Evleaks is basically the word of God. If he says the M8 Mini is getting a 13 MP camera then I can't imagine how the M8 isn't too. It's a given at this point.

I personally like the looks of the M8 as seen in the photos above.

If they release an M8 64GB Developers' Edition like they did with the HTC One, I think I will buy it.

I currently have a used HTC One 32GB AT&T model that the previous owner converted to a G.P.E. edition. I like it a lot and I think I've found the source of my battery issues that I've complained about in previous threads.
