981 Cayman Turbo with AWD and manual would pretty much be the perfect Porsche sports car

Damn you Porsche :(

Well you'll get half that...the Cayman and Boxster are both retiring the naturally aspirated flat-six :( and replacing it with a turbo 4 next year. A Cayman4 probably isn't going to happen anytime soon...

Will having a tilt senser installed onto your car or truck does mean that you will have to disable or by pass your factory installed remote smart? Thanks

Looks great! Congrats! Deep down, as an American male, I have two driving desires
1) Own an F150
2) Own a Porsche 911

Agreed. I can't justify owning a truck now. Heck, I can't really justify owning a 911 either. But would love to have both of these some day.

Broached the subject of downsizing the 5.0 with the wife and surprisingly she is all for it so we went browsing dealer lots today (all dealers in MN must be closed on Sunday by law which is nice for hassle free daylight browsing). She thinks the Civic is cheap and ugly looking but she loves the Accord Sport? Then I found a fresh off the truck, unprepped covered in plastic white on black Sport (what I would order if I went that route) that was unlocked so I was able to see it even had an August build date and no dealer clowns had gotten to it to swirl it in PDI yet. Refreshed '16s should be out now but they haven't hit midwest dealers quite yet, plus the discounts won't be nearly as good

Then I came home and started building GTIs online, but then we are getting away from the scope of downsizing, FML

It looks like my mother will be picking up a White on "Chesnut" 2015 Audi A4 Allroad Premium Plus + Tech Package. I'm a little shocked she's giving Audi another go after her 2001 2.7T Allroad ownership experience back in the day. That said, nothing can be worse than the lemon 2015 XC70 T6. The Audi should provide a more engaging driving experience. The XC was a pretty numb feeling... wagon.

Here is a reasonably unreasonable fun downsize.

This is tough, but I have to lean towards the new car, even though I'm not a huge fan of the new car. It's tough to argue with new, especially when shopping performance cars. The new car does have a better interior and tech, but it's not like the Shelby exactly has a bad interior either, albeit it is a little lacking in the tech department. Shelby will hold value better, but the new car will be a better driver, especially since you are shopping convertibles which tells me you aren't trying to get every ounce of performance out of it.

Honestly if you are shopping verts, it tells me you want a low maintenance toy that has some get up and go. The '15/'16 fits the bill perfectly. Brand new, full warranty, not ragged on, better tech and interior, plenty of power - you really can't lose with the new car here.

Just got a promo email for 0% (free money!) for 72 months +plus+ another $1000 incentive, for all 2015s. So I go to my local dealers site, and they've got a Mag Met Gray 2015, manual 6-speed, full electronics, 20" wheel option, for $3600 off retail (not including the $1K promo). Sent in a trade estimate request :D

The wife said, "Taking a new car down to Orlando [we're headed to Universal] would be fun!"

Hahaha, I don't think it'll happen that quick, but I've done sillier things.

[However, I didn't realize the Performance Pack was now available on the '16 manual verts - that could cause me to totally reconsider as that's a slick package for the fairly small price]

Hopefully it will be a great experience with this Audi for your mother.

Between the 2.7T and the air suspension, the older Allroad had a lot of... gremlins. I still like them. Haven't really looked at the new ones, but they look nice to eyes.

I'm just curious-what sort of "gremlins" does the AS system have on that particular vehicle?

Anyone who's read my posts knows that I have something of a love for Lincoln Town Cars. These had air suspension in the rear from '94(body redesign) to the end of production('09).

In general, the system is very reliable. Out of 5 with which I have personal experience, I've only seen one compressor failure.

One of the biggest issues is jacking up the car/lifting it without turning off the pump. When you do this, the airbags will inflate and when the car is "dropped" you can pop a bag or-in less severe cases can cause a leak. Any sort of severe leak in one or both of the bags will overtax the compressor and cause failure.

It's been my observation, though-again over 5 vehicles(three that my mom had and two that my grandfather had) that usually a dead compressor is ultimately the result of the car having been lifted without shutting down the compressor.

With my mom's last two, I generally took the car in for servicing. I would mention turning off the compressor when I took the car in, and then if I was waiting I would watch and make sure they did it when jacking or lifting.

On a serious note, I've been very impressed with the Genesis sedans I've seen/ridden in(although I haven't driven one). They are quiet, comfortable, roomy, and ride very well. In all honesty, they're all you could ask for in a land yacht(and I don't use that term in a patronizing way, as I love that sort of car). As @AustinIllini said, they are RWD, as a proper land yacht should be.

Can you please enlighten me as to why the Hyundai Genesis is a better car? Thank you.

RWD, looks expensive, high quality interior, 100k mile warranty

The Koreans gave us Daewoo, the height of automotive excellence...

You're not wrong. Nothing beats a Daewoo!
Hyundai Genesis drives a lot better. It sends its power to the rear wheels, unlike the ES.

Yeah, I had a current Genesis sedan as a rental before and I was seriously impressed. Interior was high quality and laid out well. Not to mention, I quite like the looks of the car.

For someone who is keeping it long term, the huge warranty is a great thing to have!

Good info, I can push for some better discounts, a better trade (probably preferred since in FL we don't pay tax on the trade difference). I'm so totally not concerned over a new ride right now I can easily walk away. Yeah, I'm kind of a nut for the metallic dark gray - it's the color of our T4R, it was the custom color on my Supra (actually Lexus spec Graphite Gray Pearl).

The bags were known to leak on the Allroad, which eventually led to compressor replacement since it had to be used so often. Could have been user error, but I remember reading reports of several owners coming out to their cars to find like one side much lower than the rest.

Turbos were prone to failure, and considering that generation is quite old, it's only a matter of time if you're looking at one. There were also issues with the cam seals I think and various sensors. I remember researching them for my brother years ago. VW Vortex is a good site with info. Some would argue that it's an older car, so of course there will be issues from wear and tear, but man of these issues would spring up while the original owners were still under warranty.

I like the idea of the original Allroad, but the first gen wasn't so well executed. I think you could get a 4.2L in it, but not sure if that engine made it to the US.
