That's really good looking. Congrats. High Revs all around.

(Don't put VTEC on your car. Seriously. This is coming from a Honda fan)

Thanks! I love it!
What do you mean don't put VTEC? The vehicle comes with iVTEC already, do you mean the decal on the side? If so that came with the factory.

Seeing as you are a Honda fan as well, any tips you have for it/cool things to do with it to make it look better?

The bags were known to leak on the Allroad, which eventually led to compressor replacement since it had to be used so often. Could have been user error, but I remember reading reports of several owners coming out to their cars to find like one side much lower than the rest.

Turbos were prone to failure, and considering that generation is quite old, it's only a matter of time if you're looking at one. There were also issues with the cam seals I think and various sensors. I remember researching them for my brother years ago. VW Vortex is a good site with info. Some would argue that it's an older car, so of course there will be issues from wear and tear, but man of these issues would spring up while the original owners were still under warranty.

I like the idea of the original Allroad, but the first gen wasn't so well executed. I think you could get a 4.2L in it, but not sure if that engine made it to the US.
We did get the V8 also. It was the better engine because it was chain driven!

Some other issues were:

- Peeling interior finishes
- MID (screen between gauges) had dead pixels
- level sensor
- 2.7T had so many problems

The Allroad was such a great car on paper, but once you went out of warranty... Good luck. It's a shame Audi never sold an A6 Allroad again. I like the A4 Allroad, but no air suspension

Oh, I'm sorry! What I meant was "don't put the sticker on the side". If it came with it, that's all good.

I used to work for an auto extended warranty company. After paying out claims over $13,000 on 4 Allroad's, they decided to drop coverage for that model.

The new Genesis sedan looked great at the DC auto show a few months back. The backseat was probably the most comfortable car seat I've sat in. The dark blue with tan interior looked really good.

And the interior quality kills anything from Acura or Infiniti. Even better than the lower level Lexus products too.

My mom had a 2001 Allroad 2.7t) and my sister drove it for a few years after my mom. The experience was so bad I'm shocked she bought another Audi. She had the screen issues, suspension problems, coil pack issues, electronics problems galore, no turbo problems but incured catastrophic engine damage from oil sludge. That was the end of it. That said, the new A4 Allroad doesn't have quite the same level of unproven technology and hopefully have a better track record. Air suspension in a case like this is unnecessary and just something to break and leave you stranded, though probably should be an option. I do wish Audi brought over the A6 Allroad from Europe as the A4 AL is a bit on the small side.

Yeah, but the ACTUAL quality isn't better than any of those. You know when you drive it. It's still a Hyundai.

I was in an Equus a few months ago and to be honest I was surprised at how cheap the plastics looked and felt. Don't get me wrong, Hyundais premium products are aesthetically pleasing, but I don't think they're quite there with being anywhere close enough in quality to even begin to undercut the mainstream luxury brands.

Well, it is almost $30-40k less than its German/Lexus competition :)

And who are we considering mainstream luxury brands? Acura, Lincoln, Volvo, and Infiniti do not deserve to be in the same sentence as Audi/BMW/Mercedes-Benz/Porsche/Lexus/Jaguar.

yea.. I'm not sure how Audi and BMW fall into luxury brands. It's not a luxury having to have your car in the service station all the time.

Lexus especially, and Benz to an extent with their old turbo diesels, at least have a reputation of their **** working and not having to live in a service garage.

Was at mountain bike trailhead the other day, and two Audi A4 owners were talking about oil burn, black marks on exhaust and bumper, and having to frequently top off. One of the two, every 1300 miles, and Audi apparently claims that is within spec and no warranty work needed.
I've got more important things in life than to nurse a poorly engineering car.

There's a clear distinction that needs to be made between premium and luxury brands.

If Acura was actually a luxury brand, they would be able to charge Lexus/German prices for their cars... But sadly that's not the case. NSX is a solid step in the right direction, but it got delayed... again.

Side note, whatever happened to the RLX Sport Hybrid?

(I'm not trying to get into another pissing match lol)

If reliability was the only metric, Lexus would be the only luxury brand. Everyone has their own ways to determine this stuff, but it's all about heritage IMO. The Germans (and Cadillac) have a lot of history.

Lexus doesn't have much history, but they've earned it that recognition. Consistently at the top for resale, reliability, and fit/finish.

Benz' rep went right out the window in the late 90s and early 2000s with the Daimler Chrysler era pieces of crap they sold.

Most recent Consumer Reports has Lexus and Audi in the top 5 for reliability. Both BMW and Acura were said to have middle of the road reliability. Mercedes is way at the bottom (again) due to the CLA.

They all make some cars that are pretty crappy. BMW X1, Benz CLA/GLA, Audi A3/Q3, etc
Reliability should be a base metric that all else builds upon.
You can wrap a turd in the most exotic skins... But its still a turd.

Heritage is an odd concept in the realm of mechanical machines.

Yes, Cadillac has some... history... o_O I don't understand how they are associated with anything luxury.

If this viewpoint was correct, every brand outside of Toyota/Lexus/Honda should close up shop.

Not to mention, every Aston or Ferrari would be considered junk.

Heritage is an odd concept in the realm of mechanical machines.

Please do some research before regurgitating this non-sense.

Cadillac is an AMERICAN luxury brand with tons of heritage.

Anyone have a 16 Maxima? It looks great, but the lack of a manual or even a traditional automatic = no buy for me.

I personally don't consider any of those brands (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillac) as "luxury" brands. I consider those premium brands. Luxury to me has to be two things, represents extravagance and has to be hard to obtain. Neither of those brands fit those two points.. Luxury brands would be Bentley, Rolls Royce and Maybach (defunct).

We can have this conversation about luxury vs. not-luxury all day. Not going to go into this any further but that is what I think true luxury is. Not a car that I see everyday.

Not enough, I'm afraid.

Alfa is going to be super premium for a while. The 4Cs in Austin are going for $70,000 a piece
Just wait until the Guiletta comes out. I'm sure the market will be just like the Ghibli.

Some suckers will pay over sticker or MSRP. And then a few months later, dealers will be desperate to move them off lots for $15k off :)
