It's here ... and it's fantastic ... !!

Halloween delivery, black on black, redline interior, maybe I'll call it the Grim Reaper.

A few quick notes:

The GTPP is perfect - the whole package feels put together, both from a driving and an aesthetic perspective.

It's amazing how far car electronics have come in the past few years.

Interior is pretty glorious, what an inexpensive but huge impacting upgrade (with the Premier trim)

One of a handful in the US with the color+interior+convertible+manual+GTPP :)

Yes ... a MANUAL :D

Mmmm ... 5 liter Coyote ... ARH-WOOOOOOO!

[Short term] needs:

More cowbell (well, more sound)

Removal of clutch assist spring

Where are the photos? :)

It sounds like a great all around package. It never fails to amaze me how difficult it is to get a car like yours with a manual transmission...

Hahaha, yeah, my pics are coming - we went for a *great* drive on Sunday, over to the island, ate outside at a terrific local joint, then cruised down A1A , across the intracoastal, back up US1. The stars were out, the little G was having a blast in the back - and it's quite a light show with all the gauge/ambient lighting.

That's gorgeous! Congrats!

Does it have SYNC3?

It does, it's pretty impressive, it's capacitive touch, easy to nav, the car has a couple of USB ports, and using either one provides a direct connect for really nice audio/podcasts, etc., plus Siri, hands-free calling and even some "extended Sync apps" where things like Pandora and NPR install an app to Sync. It also has WiFi :D

The display is outstanding, especially the reverse camera, it has backup assist so it shows a backup guide overlay, and uses the steering wheel angle to project your path.

So it's the Sync 3 as part of the Premium package, plus it has the Shaker 390 watt, 12-speaker upgrade and navigation (the Shaker is part of the 401a package that also has things like memory, etc.)

BTW, I did pull the clutch assist spring, about 2 minutes time, reversible, and wow, is it better without it. I guess there's some maximum effort target manufacturers use, but it's barely much harder to push, and now it's very clear where the engagement starts and it's nice and linear (vs. the sudden extra assist from the spring).

Same thing for all the EXX BMWs. Remove the clutch delay valve and the feeling is a lot more natural and you have total control over it.

That's awesome! I got to try out SYNC3 a few months ago on a test display. So much better than the MFT crap from before. The app support off iOS is fantastic.

That's absolutely gorgeous! It sounds like you're having a blast with it, too.

I don't know why modern makers think that they have to keep making the clutch pedal "better." It's probably the single most important part of a manual transmission, and to me having it be responsive and have a good feel is far ahead of it being "easy" to press or any other of the tricks done today. Hydraulic clutches make like(and walking after driving) a lot easier than mechanical clutches, but aside from that I want something as simple as I can get.

Fortunately, at least in your case, it was easy to over-ride.

Yeah, there was a lot of talk about people waiting for '16s, especially when they were clearing '15s at 0%, and I saw more than a few folks say if you're into the electronics, the Sync3 is an order-of-magnitude better. After I read some comparisons and found out the Perf Package was available in convertibles for MY16, that kind of sealed the deal :) Some people were squawking about the addition of the turn indicators in the hood vents, but they're _really_ subtle, and honestly a car like this has a pretty long and interesting history, so I don't mind little homage design details.

Even with all the functionality of Sync3, I like that the AC and audio has hard buttons (console and steering wheel) for common functions, and the Sync is just for extended controls, customization, apps, etc. There's another really slick little display tucked in between the two primary gauges, it's small color/high res, has all of the car related controls: lighting (and color), indicators for driving mode, tons of additional gauges (head temp, AIT, TPS)

Funny enough with all the tech onboard and at my disposal, I can't program the Home Link. We don't have an actual remote any longer :D Apparently you first have to program it for the particular brand using the remote, then use the opener "sync" (a little button on the motor assembly) to sync up the codes - so I understand if I can just get my hands on a Genie brand remote for like 5 minutes, I can get this resolved.

Same thing for all the EXX BMWs. Remove the clutch delay valve and the feeling is a lot more natural and you have total control over it.

I want to say my Z06 had it too[?] It was so modded, I forgot some of the smaller things, but I seem to remember rooting around under the drivers dash area with vise grips and a screw driver ...

From what I was able to gather based on some conversations owners had at Ford design/engineer events, it's sort of a requirement (assuming the reports aren't BS) for it to be a certain effort level, but the non-linear feel was the real problem, not so much the "light" feeling. Yeah, it was so simple, there's not even a fastener, it just holds in place with tension - it's almost as if by design it's easily removed (not unlike the CAGS/skip-shift in Corvettes)

I am definitely loving the mix of the full black exterior with the premier Redline interior, the leather is super soft, it seems like a no brainer upgrade, even if you're going black - the door inserts, seats, dash, armrest is all softer touch and has nice contrast stitching. The front seats are also heated and cooled (though that's not specific to the Premier interior).

I mean, it's not an interior like you'd see on a $100K car (er, except for the GT-R that has an Altima interior :D), but it's very good. The PP dash (vs. the premium dash that it replaces is very cool, it's turned aluminum, has a darker tint, and the two extra center gauges are a nice touch). My biggest design gripe would be the chrome/shiny bits: door pulls, shifter surround, a few other pieces - it looks like the new GT350 has a brushed finished on those parts, so I could myself swapping them for GT350 OEM pieces.

Well, $930 later and I have a new set of Primacy MXM4s. Thanks everyone for your advice.
For future reference (not directed at you), more people should be looking at tires at Costco. Their prices are fantastic!

Only downside is that they don't have an alignment rack in house. So you have to get it done ASAP after the new rubber is mounted.

Now that things appear to be back on track...

So now might be a good time to pick up a used diesel Touareg?

I still need to get around to that on my E90. Definitely noticed a difference on my E46 when I removed the CDV.

adding to the tech discussion, i just checked out a comprehensive review of the 2016 civic touring, and it comes with literally everything under the sun sans cooled seats and i believe a heated steering wheel.

-450 watt 10 speaker stereo with woofer
-carplay
-heated front and even rear seats
-leather
-nav
-full digital gauge cluster
-hondas entire sensing suite including adaptive cruise, lane departure, collision mittstion, and 2-3 other things in that suite
-power seats with lumbar
-led headlights
-led taillights
-backup camera
-moonroof
-keyless access/push button start
-remote start
-dual zone climate control
-satellite radio
-rain sensing wipers
-probably other stuff

and all this comes with 42 mpg highway and 174 hp, and honda indestructability, at a paltry $27k sticker. this is hondas entry level "economy" offering ffs and it puts a lot of $50k cars to shame tbh.

how in the hell can you possibly lose buying this car, especially with honda resale as the icing on the cake?

I'm in the process of building an engine for my latest project; a 2.2L DOHC engine for a 1991 Dodge Spirit R/T.

I am building it from a bare block and installed the pistons/rods last week and installed the cylinder head as well. I'll be using a custom turbocharger using a compressor wheel from the '80's Buick Grand National. I've also installed a stroker crankshaft and oversize custom forged pistons so it's actually now 2.5L now....maybe close to 2.6L which is REALLY big for a four cylinder.

The block is all Chrysler, but the head is designed by Lotus. I'm looking to make about 300 wheel horsepower with it and gobs of torque. Should be a fun pizza delivery vehicle.

I said this this other day, but I continue to be blown away by how fast and powerful even "boring" economy cars and family sedans are, all while getting phenomenal gas mileage.

The 2015 Camry V6-about as boring of a family car as you can get(albeit with an upgraded engine over the base model) has a sub 6 second 0-60 time! It does that too while getting 31mpg on the highway. Some folks consider the 1970 Chevelle SS the pinnacle of muscle cars, and in stock form the 454 LS6 actually manages a 0-60 time a shade over 6 seconds. I'd hate to know the gas mileage on the Chevelle, and I'd venture to guess that the Camry would probably out-handle it too.

As much as I love big American V8s-and especially the feel of all the torque under your toes along with the unbeatable sound-it's hard to argue with just how much better modern cars are in so many ways.

I have gotten over 40 MPG in my old turbo Dodge cars from the 80s and early 90s. Everything I did to increase power also increased MPG as long as I drove them like a granny while cruising on a road trip. I once drove over 500 miles on a single tank in my old Dodge Spirit R/T (Luverne, MN to Gillette WY without stopping).

All the new tech coming out helps (direct injection, variable valve timing etc) but knowing how to drive miserly probably helps just as much. You don't need a new Honda for sure.

Meanwhile my Dodge Caliber SRT-4 (2.4L turbo) tops out at about 32 MPG on road trips, but has embarrassed many high performance cars on the highway. I lost to a Corvette Z06 that just walked away but the owner congratulated me on how well the car did against it!

Hahaha oh my god. A Dodge Sprint R/T. A K-Car that outperforms the same year BMW M5, in a straight line anyways. What a hilarious concept.

That's certainly an interesting peice of history to have your to have your hands on.

My 2009 BMW 535xi has a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds with a quarter mile in 14.0 seconds at 102mph. The 1991 Sprint R/T reportedly can do the same in 5.8 seconds with the quarter mile in 14.7 seconds at 97mph.

That's crazy! Best of luck on your project.

Holy smokes, that's a ton of content/tech/features for any price, let alone, a sub $30K Civic that will for run for 1,000,000 miles. Nice.
