And that's what kills the value? I think we had this discussion two months ago about 911 colors. I imagine if the PTS was the purple in the GT3 RS, you could ask for a really high price and get it.

Honestly, I don't think *anything* is going to kill the value on these. I'm sure you could paint it hot pink and some idiot would pay $$$ for it.

Well, I live in SoCal. Where you'll see a lot of nice cars, exotics too, with the dumbest custom paints or wraps. My favorite was an Aston Martin with the UK flag and several landmarks superimposed onto the wrap in a textured design.

I must be missing something here. CCBs will always squeak unless they're up to temperature which requires hard braking for continuous periods of time.

Thats what i thought but according to him there is a defect that can't be fixed by bedding.

Bedding is different than warming up. Bedding is an initial process. If the noise isn't going away after bedding and after which the CCBs heat up, then they may have been installed incorrectly or the rotors have gone bad. The issue with CCB is if you've never had them, they're very different than average brakes. You really need to stomp on the brakes when you're alone an going at high speed. The calipers themselves could be flawed. Can he take them to another dealer?

I miss the old X5's. They were beautiful rigs.

Yeah, it was fun, and in '04, having a 6-speed SUV with a 315HP V8 geared for the street was really fun, the whole "performance SUV" idea wasn't such common knowledge.

Wait I'll find a photo ...

Yeah, holy hell, some guy on one of my car forums got one (loaded SS) with a $14K discount (discount, dealer special, a bunch of stuff stacked).

FWIW, I've been running ceramics for a while now. I take the initial bedding SERIOUSLY-I start at a 20-10 reduction and work up to a couple of 70-10. By that point, the brakes will be fading seriously and if you have a window down(or the top down :) ) they will stink. I only do it at night on lightly traveled roads, because once the bedding process starts it's imperative that the pads not be allowed to rest on stationary rotors. Once I'm done, I pull into the driveway and more or less let the car roll to a stop with minimal braking and then either put it in gear or in park to stop it.

That's a fairly aggressive bedding process, but my ceramics don't squeak or vibrate. The only sound they make is if the car hasn't been driven in a few days and they grind a bit when they're scrubbing the rust off the rotors.

BTW, if you're installing pads yourself don't discount the importance of putting a high quality grease on the back of the pads. I have yet to change the pads on the MG, but I had a TERRIBLE squeak coming from the front right. I pulled the front right wheel with the intention of doing a full brake job(I have pads sitting on the shelf), but found 70% or better pads sitting there. So, with that in mind I pulled the pad and found the backs of the pads completely dry. I gave everything a good scrubbing with brake cleaner(the good CRC chlorinated kind-there's no room for any sissy non-chlorinated brake cleaner in my garage), opened the bleeders and ran fluid through until it came out clear, then put it back together with a good coat of CRC disk brake quiet on the back of the pads. I should have done the other side at the same time, as fixing the right side just showed a much fainter squeak on the left :) . I did that one the next weekend.

You could get a 6MT in the E53 4.4L? That's awesome.

I thought it was only the 3.0.

What a joke. You'd have to be stupid to order one when they're that cheap.

Sorry about that, 6-speed auto, but so many "regular" SUVs had 5-speeds and lacked the gearing and quick shifts of the X5. In fact, it's kind of a sticking point with me that the 4Runner hasn't gone to a 6, though it appears Jeep is stepping it up with the Wrangler and going from the current 5-speed auto to the new 8-speed in other FCA vehicles.

None with just the car, weird, but anyway ...

It did a pretty solid job of towing too! I changed out the wheels at some point, still looking for a photo ... there's a few that slipped through the cracks, back in the digital camera days (and no consistent backups for "disposable" photos).

My buddy's RS3 was in the shop recently (squeaky Carbon Ceramics) and his loaner car was a base (bottom barrel) A3. This thing didn't even have AC or Nav, and was manual (Audi manuals are subpar to put it mildly, probably only beat by Merc manuals which are just disgusting).

And to add insult, it was covered in dealership stickers...along the front and rear doors, back window etc. We thought an Audi employee was on the premises when we saw it in the car park.

Worst thing is, they didn't fix the issue. The back and forth continues...

Incidentally, another friend who just got a fully loaded A4 is having issues with the Virtual Cockpit.

Yeah I believe my Mother has had an A3 loaner for her 2015 A4 Allroad. She already thinks the A4 A.R. is too small, so she wasn't thrilled in the A3. I know her dealer (different than where she bought her A6 Allroad years ago) does give out a wide spectrum of cars these days including A4, Q5's, A6's, and even Q7.

I remember when my mom had the A6 Allroad and once again it was in for unexpected service. They attempted to give her a Jetta loaner in the middle of a blizzard and she flipped out. Somehow they found her a Touareg to drive.

Here is Boston it seems most dealers do the giant decals across the back of the car that say "HERB CHAMBERS BMW COURTESY VEHICLE" or similar which I find rather obnoxious. There's a pretty obnoxious Acura dealer too.

What does a 2017 model have that's worth an extra ~$14,000?

No major differences, but at least in my area most of the remaining 2016's are not anywhere close to the way I want it. I had that opportunity back in August where the car had everything I want besides it having a sunroof, but I elected to wait since I didn't want to go out and buy winter rims/tires immediately after that and wasn't financially comfortable with it either.

Between the two closest dealers, there is only one 2016 left which is a convert.

Ugh. I didn't realize Lexus even carried the CT200. I remember one time my mom has an HS loaner back when she had a Lexus, but all the other times it was either an RX or ES.

I never understood why some dealers hand out the biggest POS loaners ever. Back when my mom had her A6 Allroad (mind you a $50,000 car in 2001), they'd hand out base Jettas as loaners- not even passats. I don't remember if it was my 03 Grand Cherokee Limited (purchased CPO for ~$35k) or my sisters very new at the time 07 Grand Cherokee Overland (purchased new for $45k- both cars purchased within 4 years) that went in for service where the dealer gave us a Dodge Caliper.

Honestly giving a loaner at a dealer is way of marketing products and encouraging future sales. A Dodge Caliper isn't exactly C/D/J's best product. At least they had the courtesy to vacuum and wash the car unlike the Audi dealer.

There was also my Dad's P38 Range Rover that spent more time in the shop than on the road, so usually he had a Freelander loaner- the car LR negelected to put cupholders in.

I remember when my Dad had an E300 TurboDiesel Mercedes he always got a suitable loaner- often even nicer cars than the E (one time I recall an SL) BMW has usually been good about quality loaners, but frankly even at the lowest trims the 3-series is a pretty solid car and the X1 isn't bad either.

So my local Lexus dealer seems to only have RXs on their loaner fleet from what I have seen.

I agree on the dealers having good loaners, I remember one of my UK BMW dealers back in the day used to loan out nice cars, I had a 3er convertible, offered a Z3 (back when they were new out - could not take as they needed it back before I could be back there), and several other nice 3er and 5er cars.

I usually just wait for service at my local Lexus dealer, they have a really nice wait area with food and drinks etc and a good place to work so just sit there and get some work done.

This was in Massachusetts. Porsche of Westwood. Already sold at MSRP.

One of 3 Rs the dealer has gotten so far.

MSRP was $224k I think?

Is that the new one on route one? I've not been since they moved from across the road, the new location looks a lot better! Took the other half to look at the Porsches down in Warwick, RI the other week, but she didn't like any of them, much preferring the BMW 6 series Gran Coupe.

Rumored to be and sharing the platform with the Supra.
Did either company ever confirm their joint efforts apart from a press release years ago? The general opinion with some is that it's dead in the water but both companies use each others facilities and the other half believes something will come along. Frankly, I'm not too interested because a Z is not in my future, but it's interesting to see what will happen. Though I'd be surprised if the Supra would be even affordable to the people who cherished the last evolution of the car or even the older slant nosed models. It'll be expensive like every Japanese sports car brought back. Personally, I'd kill to see a 2000GT reimagined using today's design logic.

Still looks to be on. Spy shots of the Supra's interior show it using BMW-esque stalks on the steering wheel.

I saw a video of that supposed car a month or two ago, coming out of a test facility. I heard either a supercharger whine or an electric motor. My bet is on the latter.

Yes, it's the new showroom on Rt. 1 in Westwood. Right next door to the huge Mercedes dealer.

The Inskip dealers are great. Everything is right next to each other so you don't have to waste the entire day driving back and forth between the diff't brands.

If that car is the new Supra it lost a bunch of it's look from the original prototype (common, but this is substantial). Also I hear there's still the talk of this being not only a joint BMW/Toyota but it will be sold in nearly the same specs as a Z5 and a Supra. I really hope it comes to the table with enough power to exceed the current 370Z and be competitive in the M2/M4/Mustang/Camaro even non-Z06 Corvette segment like it was back in the 90's during the 4th gen production.

... but not get crazy with pricing like Nissan did (at least into the 3rd or so year) with the GT-R.

Most recent rumors I've read is that the Toyota will be a coupé and BMW will get the convertible

Does BMW really need another convertible if they still have hardtops (no idea here)? Seems like an awful waste of development money. That dealership network looks marvelous.

Yes, the Warwick location is great. We looked at the BMWs, the Lexus GS, the Porsche Panamera and Macan and the Audi A6 and the MB E class all in walking distance of each other.
