That was a bit of an unfair comparison. Everyone knew what the results were going to be( I think they did too hence the cowboy science in order to give the Mustang something).

GM did two levels of a V8 pony car while Ford did 3. The 3rd level that Ford did that GM did not was the base Mustang GT hence why the GT is cheaper than the SS. It's there for people who just want a V8 in their car and don't care about track pedigree or whatever. GM put out a car that was track ready( brembo brakes, auxiliary coolers, etc) as the base car. The GT PP1 is meant to bring the GT to the regular SS's level. GT PP2 is meant to be the SS 1LE competitor.

PP2 wasn't out at the time of review..

The only reason I brought it up was all the Camaro talk reminded of the that head2head on motor trend on demand. Jonny was a giggling retard during the video and it made me smile

Does anyone here have a Toyota 4Runner? I saw a TRD Off-Road on my drive home this morning and like it! How is the durability and how does it handle off road? I looked online and it appears the 4Runner doesn't h ave Android Auto or CarPlay is this correct? I will start looking at new cars this week to replace my current car

They get a lot of money for the 4Runner considering how dated it is. The tech is ancient on it. Toyota has been very reluctant to install CarPlay, I think it’s coming out on some 2019 models. I wouldn’t expect it in the T4R anytime soon though.

Toyota has trailed on the Apple Carplay.

I guess if you plan on hauling groceries in it 90% of the time, I can see how Apple Carplay would matter. But I can tell you as an offroad/toyota enthusiast....

Carplay was the last thing I was concerned about when purchasing. ;)

Wow, that's a great photo, almost looks like marketing material :D
[doublepost=1530813408][/doublepost]Oh, I wrote ICELE, as in In Car ELEctronics - we used to use just ICE all the time, but now that that also means Internal Combustion Engine ... figured I'd start a differentiator :D

Thanks! I took it at the Contental Divide on Loveland Pass, CO. ~ 12,000’ elevation. In the background is A-Basin, which is or was the highest lift-served ski area in CO.

The road is also part of the Triple ByPass route, a 110-mile long annual bicycle race/event, in which I’ve ridden three or four times (can’t recall at the moment).

The road is a lot of fun to drive.

Heck, we were set to buy a JGC, Overland+High Altitude (you know I love my blacked out trim :D), and 5 vs. 7 seating was most of the motivation behind the DDRT vs. the JGC (though when I did a little more research, the Jeep has a little more cost tied up in the AWD system, the DD, at least at the RT level, get the Hemi (you opt for the Hemi in the JGC, but then it's a good $4K-5K more for matching equipment outside of the AWD).

FWIW, we actually wound up with a 6-seater, with the 2nd row being the optional Capt's Chairs by request of the little G

Yeah, it’s too bad Jeep has very much abandoned the V8 in the JGC. Prior to the 2014 facelift, all Overland models or higher (thought I think the Overland was the highest trim besides the SRT) came standard with the V8. Now they charge an arm and a leg for it and they are very hard to find. It seems they also brought back the diesel again, which is cool. Apparently the reliability is questionable though and they charge about $5000 for it. You don’t gain much in the way of fuel economy improvement either. They too are impossible to find. I’d say the average dealer website I’ve seen has 70-80 JGC’s in stock with only 4-5 V8’s and diesels commutatively. That said, the 6-cyl is a pretty decent engine for the car.

I guess if you plan on hauling groceries in it 90% of the time, I can see how Apple Carplay would matter. But I can tell you as an offroad/toyota enthusiast....

Nice! A 4Runner in its true habitat.

My thought is Toyota charges an awful lot of money for the 4Runner, despite the fact it’s an ancient platform. It’s a great car and they keep selling more and more of them despite their age. I suppose it has something to do with the fact that there isn’t much competition to the 4Runner these days (body on frame SUV). I think it would behoove them to get with the times in terms of tech. That said, I think CarPlay is a bit overrated. It has a lot of potential that just hasn’t been taken advantage of by Apple unfortunately. This is like the early years of AppleTV, preventing nearly all 3rd party apps.

Yeah, it’s too bad Jeep has very much abandoned the V8 in the JGC.
And I am leaning towards a V-8 so of course it would be abandoned

I like diesel but with reliability being questionable it isn't worth $5,000 plus not gaining much in fuel economy. What makes its reliability questionable

Yeah, Doug whatshisface did a video on the 4Runner in one of the exclusive colors. Something like sixty grand for decade old tech. Nuts!

Jeep hasn’t literally abandoned the V8, my point was they used to offer it in a lot of their higher spec Grand Cherokees, even having it be standard on the Overland models. Now it’s a hard to find option (unless you drop a ton of money and buy a SRT8 or Trackhawk).

I’m not sure specifically the problems with the Jeep/Dodge Ecodiesel. @AutoUnion39 might know the specifics. I think another problem is that they’re pretty rare and there aren’t a lot of experienced techs to work on them. They’re FCA engines, not Cummins like most other FCA trucks.

If nothing else you’re paying $5,000 more for an engine that will probably never recoup it’s cost as the fuel efficiency improvements are negligible (unless diesel happens to become drastically cheaper than gas).

A while back I looked into the Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel and Touareg TDI (prior to the VW diesel scandal). In retrospect I kinda wish I bought the Touareg.

Sometimes I get the feeling you recount that story to others in your life whenever cars come up. :p

Of all the detailers and waxes owned (I literally have over $250.00 in detailers on my garage Shelf), Adams is by far is the best detailer I have used on my car. And I have tried many detailers from various manufacturers. The only other surface detailer I have primarily used as of recent was ‘Wizards Professional’, but I have had an excellent experience with Adams polishes.

The Caveat with some spray on detailers, is that you only can use them when your car is dry, as sometimes if your car is wet, which some base detailers can streak or Mark the paint. With Adams detailer, you can use this if your vehicle is dry or wet.

I know Adams polishes is heavily marketed and promoted, but this Product works, without streaking, marking, especially on a black car. I expect the best and this product delivers. I wasn’t able to wash my car for over three weeks after the ceramic coating was applied, but this was the product I have been using that didn’t cause any issues. Its Not necessarily to expensive, but you receive a decent amount of product that will last.

This was actually given to me, Not that I would need to, but I can’t use this on my Mustang due the ceramic coating, but I do plan on trying this on the SHO when I get back from my business trip/Vac. No feedback yet, but wanted to share this product. The Only other product I own from Chemical Guys is ‘Black light’, but they are reputable. Someone Else mentioned this is comparable to Griots compound, but this is supposed to be a “Better” Product with the shine.

@Relentless Power Nice stuff. $250 is pretty good. I stopped caring how much I spent a long time ago and it makes it easier to move along. I guess car products are like the shoes for men? I'm going to be applying UV sealer to certain trim this weekend since it looks like hell is being unleashed over our region in the next few weeks. :(

I admit, I have a slight addiction to trying new detailing products on my cars (Plus, I enjoy detailing as a side hobby). I usually use ‘Car Guys’ as my main course for treating my car paint, but there are also some other reputable manufacturers like Chemical guys or Adams Polishes. Everyone has different appreciations, but I like a variety.

Yeah that's how I view life. Not every company make everything great. You have to mix it up to get the best of everything. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, just be happy you haven't sunk in thousands.

Adams sent me a bunch of free product a while back, they were shooting cars for marketing material, pre-Mustang.

We're headed to Universal (yes, again, #3 this year :D), but part of it, is a big Mustang cruise-in at Ace Cafe in Orlando on Saturday, so driving the GT instead of the RT (I love saying, that, hahaha ...) should be pretty fun.

Did anyone ever ask RP about his header purchase, that based on previous car info, sounded like a replacement set?

i.e., this:

I'm about to de-badge one item on the rear of the RT, but it's really a de-emphasizing, the R/T model has all black badges, but the big D O D G E across the rear deck is craptacular, remove it, and you still have very subtle recessed letter outlines that should nicely match the rest of the vehicle.

I did! Holy smokes the chrome D O D G E easily pulled right off, didn't leave but a little bit of gunk that wiped right off. Looks __so__ much better, there's still a Dodge logo, it's just inset lettering, that looks completely by-design.

Probably because it's new? Have fun at Universal... I swear it seems like you guys are there every month. I'll be sure to enjoy the triple digit heatwave this weekend.

We've got some weddings coming up this summer. Looking for any reason to skip them.

Thanks for the clarification. The SRT8 and Trackhawk are nice but I never gave them serious consideration

I know Jeep put a diesel in the Grand Cherokee in 2007-2009 that was a Mercedes-Benz 3.0L CRD. My cousin got 1 and it's still running great. I considered getting 1 in the past but couldn't find 1 within 1,000 miles

That's an excellent point.I searched Jeep's site and saw the Grand Cherokee Limited is available with a diesel. I might consider that if it has enough power
A while back I looked into the Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel and Touareg TDI (prior to the VW diesel scandal). In retrospect I kinda wish I bought the Touareg.
My parents have a Touareg with the 5.0L V10 TDI and it's plenty powerful.

I think you're right, in fact, some people on the DD forum said, "If you're inclined to remove them, do it sooner than later" ! I waited till midday, RT parked in the driveway, it was super hot, so I think that also helped (the adhesive was super soft).

Ugh, glad we got out of the wedding surge a decade or so ago, and live 800 miles from the relatives I actually like :D

Season passes + 2 hour drive = lots of trips :) It's just a nice getaway, we're in no rush when we're there (having experienced everything dozens of times), lots of hanging out at the pool combined with excessive consumption :D

In the end, I'm STILL not a fan of low-profile tires (tyres for those in the UK.) When even economy cars are running 55 series tires, you tend to feel every bump on the road. Michelin and Maxion Wheels is trying to address this with their ACORUS system, but that's not exactly a cheap solution.

I will take a look at that when I get a new car

Just to reiterate, even though I discuss/own some of these other products from Car-Guys, Chemical guys or Adams polishes, etc, Doesn’t mean that cheaper alternatives don’t produce similar results, because they do. Maguiars and Mothers are excellent store shelf products that you can find locally. I just prefer some _other_ more ‘Premium professional’ brands that claim they produce the best results, but we all know that’s variable for everyone.

But I what I have found out using Car-Guys primarily, is that I don’t see any streaking or residue left behind that other products might Leave Remnants of, and of course produces lasting effects with shine and extended protectant. I don’t mind paying something extra for a product if it produces results they claim and I see it for myself. Eventually you have to find what works best for you in your situation. Something else, is never cheapen out on a quality microfiber cloth, there are a lot of grades of cheap microfiber that are one-sided, feel somewhat abrasive or just are not appropriate for cleaning/drying a car, if you purchase a new car, don’t use a shoddy microfiber cloth, it will only worsen the situation for the vehicle paint. Chemical Guy sells quality microfiber cloths and they are a reputable company.

Lastly, detailing is an art, your car is the canvas. If you’re ever unsure of detailing methods, ask questions, and YouTube has excellent Tutorial videos from some highly recommended professionals that know how to detail a new car and protect your paint to the upmost.
