Have fun using your finger print scanner on the 5s

dont worry, we will, when Apple revolutionizes this feature and when they will perfect NFC communications, it will set the standard for the world .. before you know it we will be buying everything with our phone and with the security of our unique fingerprints

----------

I must have missed all these features when I had the iPhone 5. Could you show me where to get to them in the settings?

wait, you mean the features that dont even work half the time? oh those features.. okay

Personally, I hope NFC gets put in the iWatch instead of the iPhone....

NFC, along with biometric sensors that read who you are, would allow ultra-secure payments just by flashing your wrist at a pay terminal....

That would be sweet.

That change in ppi is even greater when you factor in the switch from a the pentile matrix in the s3 to the ful rgb matrix in the s4.

wrong, the S4 screen is still pentile...

----------

Is it really rgb? Thought I read on engadget it was pentile again.

its pentile again, which automatically makes it inferior to the competition's displays, pentile is absolute garbage

----------

I think other sites also claimed it's pentile. My HTC One X is definitely sharper than the S3 screen. I would go for the HTC One if I were to buy a new phone.

Same... even though im not getting either phone, im just going to stick with my i5

----------

The S4 is gonna be a big seller.
Lots of hardware and software improvements which are innovative and worth trying out.

I was looking at this spec comparison between the S4, iP5, HTC One, BB etc, and the only thing that keeps popping in my head is, Apple is way behind. They are gonna take 2 years to just catch up to what is coming to the market in the next 2 months. No wonder the stock is tanking.

the iPhone 5 is 6 months old... wait till the 5S then we will be saying the S4 and the One are outdated, thats just how technology moves man... who cares about a 1080p screen if your battery life suffers terribly from it

The problem is that the next big thing (for smartphones) will be something like complete smooth and fluent gesture control, no buttons, not on screen, not physical, not capacitive. I can see Apple, for example, leading the way by throwing their customers in the water w/ something like this. Therefore, the next big feature in any smartphone is really something you can't get away without using.

Thats already been done. Look at blackberry qnx, webos, and windows 8. They all have boarder gestures. The playbook has no buttons on its face at all. You can replace your softkeys on a nexus with gestures as well with lmt control.

That video showing all the features really makes you realize how slow Apple is at getting new software features out. I don't really care for Samsung phones or anything other than stock android but I will give them this: they are innovating on the software side, and that's exactly what we need right now. Hardware has pretty much come up against a wall in terms of innovation. It's more about what the software can do for you now I think. This phone will sell millions and continue to pull Samsung ahead of Apple. My only concern is how much Samsungs version of Android is becoming synonymous with Android and what that will mean for Googles stock android. I still prefer pure stock on my N4 and the ability to receive updates as soon as they come out. I can't wait to see what KLP offers.

What are your thoughts on Face unlock, which works incredibly fast, reliably, and well on the Nexus 4 even when it's dark (not pitch black, of course)?

it is a gimmick just like fingerprint scan would be. face detection I think is a feature made just for the sake of doing it, it is not really innovative or mindblowing, it didn't take the world by surprise when it launched believe me..

I believe face unlock is less secure and accurate than fingerprint unlock, plus it takes more time to access it and get pass the lock screen compared to a possibly-apple quick finger print scan.

time is important, if it takes too much you know you're going to disable the hell out of it and keep the regular unlock feature...

Keep dreaming.

Apple is no longer innovating and is losing its luster ever since the iPhone 5 was released. If anything will be dead in the water it will be the 5S, if they have the nerve to release such a thing.

Apple will go back to what it is becoming infamous for: litigating. Yay.

Your the biggest Apple hater on these forums, why do you even bother to post or come here?

And rightfully so, Apple will continue to litigate as long as Samsung and these other companies continue to copy Apple

I think its a little early to assume we know exactly what will happen this year or next.....

Apple has their plan and it seems they stick to it, despite negative press. Hasn't seemed to really affect them much as each iPhone outsells the last (and outsells any of its competition). Maybe this is the year it doesn't happen, but given what I saw from Samsung, I don't think its a stretch to say the door is wide open for Apple to slam it in their face....

Personally, I haven't seen ANY innovation from anyone in the smartphone arena in quite some time. People can be fooled (and fool themselves) into thinking Samsung's features are "innovative" but more often than not, gimmick is a more apt description.....

Not one feature of Samsung's has changed the way things are done. Added some other methods for doing old tasks - though debatable whether or not these new methods are any better - but ultimately, most of those features simply are relegated to the "gimmick" heap.

And people were all up in arms about Apple implementing panorama (and still claim that Apple/Apple fans say they invented it....which is nonsense) while Samsung pulls are sorts of ideas from other third part apps and compiles the giant mess than are the "S-Apps" and TouchWiz.

I truly hope HTC puts some money out there and markets the One hard - they have a golden opportunity to take some Android market share back from Samsung before they get too entrenched (which I think will happen this year - Samsung will have the same drooling following Apple is mocked for).

I'm telling you being able to use the phone with gloves on is a great feature. I don't see any other premium smartphone with that capability. And everyone will use it. Innovation.

I live in Los Angeles. If you are wearing gloves here you are probably wearing something with Ed hardy on it too.

So nobody ever goes to a cold area? Even if you don't I think most people do or already live in an area with some cold weather.

I also know some people work with gloves on, some athletes wear gloves, etc. now they can use their phone without taking them off

It will be interesting to see if many of these added features that aren't hardware dependent are pushed to the SGIII?

Lol at samsung thinking that they have enough of a dedicated fanbase to introduce an incremental upgrade after all of the hype.

So, loads of hype and rumours followed by a great wailing and gnashing of teeth when the actual product lacks a cold fusion power source and built-in holoprojector.

Yes folks, Samsung are blatantly copying Apple again! :D

You're delusional if you think the iPhone 5S will have all those features.
They won't even catch up to what the S4 will have.
If Apple was smart, they would scrap the plans for the 5S and focus on a completely new phone for the iP6.

Why would they do that? Every iPhone has outsold the previous. Seems like they know what they're doing.

What features would the 5S be missing? All this "air" stuff is gimmicky at best...i had a S3 and the "smart" features on there barely worked, the palm swipe to capture a screen shot was a joke and all the other features were half baked.

Nfc/finger print scanner on home button can have the potential to drastically change the smartphone landscape alone, i have 100% confidence iOS 7 will be a fantastic OS update

The Apple A7 chip will be faster then a Qualcomm S800 or just as fast, with better effiecency, trust me on that

Considering Apple has not once made a home button for the iPhone that didn't suck, I have zero faith they could actually add functions to it without it being a disaster. That thing has needed to go for years. Such a huge turn off functionally and aesthetically.

Also, 10% doesn't sound like much.

It looks like a reasonable upgrade to me, but in any case the reviews so far have indicated that the resolution is so high that the pentile effects are not noticeable. Perhaps that's Samsung's strategy - using pentiles for ease of manufacturing, but make the pixels so small the human eye cannot detect it. Rather like Apple's 'retina' approach.

In any case, S4 doesn't appeal to me, but I would imagine S3 users looking to upgrade would quite reasonably be happy with it.

I always hear about crappy home buttons but have never - in any iPhone I've owned or my family members have owned (roughly 25-30 phones, not a large sample but still) - experienced any issue with a home button.

Do people push these things hard or something? I personally like the home button - makes it easier to pop the screen on and off when the phone is lying on a desk without having to reach on the side....that said, if they added some functionality I wouldn't be opposed to losing the physical button in favor a capacitive fingerprint reader.

LMT launcher is still using physical buttons. I watched Blackberry's feature on their gestures. They're not that intuitive (from what I saw). It seemed more like they were trying to get gestures in w/o making the rest of the interface feeling too much like Android and iOS.

What I more so mean is more like Zephyr for iOS, but mainstreamed and cleaned up. Imagine having to depend on swiping up from the bottom to get to the multitasking window, or swiping from the right to access the last open app... complete reliance on gestures and absolutely no ability to use physical or virtual keys. Anyway, my point is that the next big thing isn't going to be a feature that may or may not be used. It is going to be something where you must use, gestures was just an example of how one company can think outside the box.

lol, so true....This was the first time I actually checked in on a new phone coming out besides an iphone. Gotta say I was very underwhelmed. Same phone, incremental updates, and more useless features. Same plastic.
