Here's a thought.... AT&T said "Late Morning" and their idea of Late Summer is Early Fall... So, does this actually mean Early Afternoon?

Just and extra $0.02

Remember that Apple is the one that has to add the carrier update and push it out via iTunes. For all we know, AT&T has done their end of the work and we're just waiting on Apple.

This morning around 6 A.M. MMS started working for me.

I'm in Pasadena, CA

I am in Ahamra and still do not have the update. I do not mind because i understand technology. it does show that just cause some one 3 miles max away has it doesn't mean I will have it!
It will come when it comes. I just love discussion boards! I love computers.

Agreed! Both parties are responsible for this WHOLE MMS MESS! If i am rude to one of my customers, two things happen. The customer will not come back for my services and they may not return to the store I work for. Two parties loose out, specially if this customer writes corporate.
In my opinion, Apple and ATT are both responsible. It comes when it does!

Does Itunes give you the option to install the carrier file. I installed 5.0 a while ago and everything works....I dont want the one apple is about to push.

So everyone here who got MMS was notified by ATT, then updated the carrier file via iTunes?

How do you see it as Apple letting customers down too? On the day of the iPhone OS 3.0 release every other country on every other carrier got MMS. The only difference between them and us is ... AT&T. Actually, even those countries that have T-Mobile as their official carrier got MMS on launch day. Why would Apple hold onto it if AT&T said it's okay to release it? That makes no sense. Apple is holding it until a specific time AT&T has designated.

It's not out yet.

Anyone else not receiving texts right now? I'm wondering if it's because either a) The texting system is down due to the MMS change being implemented, or b) some people are already getting texting and the system is BUSY. Thoughts?

OK, so, I did get a text from Att a few minutes ago, not sure though what it means, it says something like "your email address was created for the acct. ending in XXXX"

I plugged my phone in, opened itunes, but, all it's doing is prodding me to update to 3.1, which obviously I haven't done, and don't want to either.

My question is, to those in a similar boat, when your market is activated, and you go to itunes, can you download and install the carrier file only, does it prod you separately to install the carrier file, or is it only done by updating to 3.1 and the new carrier file is part of that?

Thanks, Ari

I am PRETTY sure you are required to update your iPhone to 3.1 AND iTuned to V9 if you want this to work for you. The only reason you don't want to update to 3.1 is because you are a jailbreaker in wich case you already have a ton of other "jailbreak" options to choose from;)

Actually, i'm not JB, I don't want 3.1 so that I can keep my Benm tethering hack intact. :)

I'd like to hear from people who have the same dilemma, if they are able to go to itunes and install the carrier file only, or if it's bundled in with the 3.1 update, thanks.

a lot of people don't want to upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1 because it breaks tethering on non-jailbroken phones.

I've been checking iTunes all morning; just checked again and it said there was a carrier update, which it installed in about 1 second. Didn't receive a text notification first either, fyi.
