Two days ago I walked into the local Apple store and bought my first MBA, 11.6", 4/256/i5.

The transaction didn't take long, but the lead-up to it lasted for months. During which I researched, analyzed, discussed, crunched numbers, and finally felt kind of like a stalker instead of a shopper. It was fun to - finally - just go into the store, check what was in stock, and say "I'll take that one."

My iMac has been my main home computer since 2008, and it's still going strong. The more I use my Mac, the less I like to use my Win 7 notebook PC away from home. There's nothing defective about its hardware, really, but I'm just so over its OS.

Now, I have a Mac to go! Yippee Skippy! I've been loading apps and working with it, and have to say I'm impressed. Sleek, small, light, fast, and, I have to say it, fab.u.lous. Does what I need it to. Big test is tomorrow. I'm taking it to a 4 hour Lightroom 5 workshop. We'll see if it can handle the photo work although I'd be surprised if it can't handle the level of stuff I do as a hobbyist. I'm still in the 14 day return window, just in case it's a disappointment. Which I really don't expect to happen.

Busy week.

Just sold my 2012 13" Ultimate MBA and ordered a 13"/8GB/256GB/i5

I did not have a requirement for the i7 and need about 200GB of disk space with VMWare Fusion.

Can't wait to check out that 12-hour battery and the 45% SSD speed increase :D

Have been sitting on the fence about the new MBA; waiting to see about the new MBP, but checked this morning and there was a great deal on a Haswell MBA, i7/8GB/512SSD for $280 discount! Jumped off the fence and ordered it.

I currently have a 2006 17" MBP, so am a little nervous about the smaller screen, but willing to take a chance. My current machine is WAY overdue for upgrade!

If you're anything like me, you will be torn into two sides. One will absolutely love every single thing about this machine, the other, will hate the one fatal flaw, lack of screen real estate + screen resolution.

For me, coming from a 1080p panel, it is noticeable, and the lack of screen realestate is annoying. This is the only reason I am considering replacing this with a 15" rMBP.

If you can live with an external monitor, I think this will delight you to no end.

That's what I am worried about. I have used my daughter's 13" macbook a few times, and didn't have a problem with it, but I never used it for extened periods of time.

If I love everything else, I may use an external monitor at home, and enjoy the portability when I travel.

Keeping my fingers crossed :)

I think you'll be fine. :) My main issue with the 13" screen is that I do a lot of side by side multitasking. This would have been easier had the resolution been higher on the 13" screen, but I feel the 15" rmbp is probably best suited.

Enjoy it! I still don't know whether I'll be able to let go of mine!

Well pulled the trigger!

I have been monitoring the refurb site for awhile after deciding to get the wife a MBA for our 12th. Got a 15" MBP last year for our 11th to share and now we "fight" over it come couch time. Plus she wish the MBP was a little lighter.

Yesterday there was a couple 13" that I was tempted with. One fully decked i7 8GB and 512GB SSD and some others with only 4GB RAM. The decked one was a little more than I wanted to spend and since it can't be upgraded later definitely wanted to get the 8GB RAM w/256GB SSD. Then they all vanished. Not one 13" all night and into the morning.

I started to buy an i5 8GB w/ 256GB using my company discount which would have been a little less than the educational discount. Added to cart...

Did one more check on the refurb site and a 13" i7 8GB w/ 256GB just showed up for the exact same price as the i5 one.

So I went ahead and ordered that! Should be shipped to my folks house by Monday! Now I will have to keep it from her for a few weeks, setting it up and get it ready without her finding out about it... I can NEVER surprise her... hopefully this year will be a lil surprise. Probably, wrap the power chord box or something to have her open...

Now my next debate "Should I try to sell our 2012 MBP i7 500GB 16GB RAM and get myself an air"

Are your referring to the mid 2012 one for 1199?

If you got the mid 2013 i7/8/256, then lucky you, I missed out.

It was the mid 2013 for 1319. Yeah I have been hawking that site the past two weeks. There is a i7/8/512 there still. That one was there yesterday as well, but a little more than I wanted to spend.

That's exactly my quandary. Looks like lunch break away from the computer wasn't worth it for me. ;)

On second thoughts, it's actually good. I am trying to hold out for the new retinas and I am sure I would have bought this instantly.

I just bought my Macbook Air. Honestly, I am waiting for the new rMBP but I need it now. Happy so far.

In the same boat. But if the new rMBP comes out before next Thursday (before 14 days), though...I'm exchanging it. But i highly doubt it will...=/

Yeah if the jump to 512gb wasn't as much woulda definitely gotten it. But 256 with 8gb is what I was after. Having the i7 is nice but was really wanting the i5 for her. But getting that upgrade for same price I was getting ready to pull trigger on seemed like a no brainer. So lucky timing for me for sure. Was literally at checkout with a new i5 when I checked one last time.

You can try the refurbme site too. Though I found it before I got the notification from it.

Good luck getting what yah want. I wouldn't expect a rMBA until next year. But who knows.

The refurb me site didn't know about this model until today. This was the first time it showed up. I had done two different calculations and had predicted this model would have the $1319 price tag.

I literally missed it by 5 minutes or so. :) Have had my eye on this for a while.

It's fine though, I'm really confused with what to keep right now. The delay in release for the haswell laptops has thrownmy plans off-course.

Glad you got yours, Enjoy! :) There will be more soon enough.

Yeah I didn't see it there either when I first set it up. Was very lucky to catch it from apple's site when I did. Would say sorry. Well I am sorry there weren't more of them. I am sure there will be soon.

Yeah it will be very interesting to see what the specs and price are of the haswell MBPs.

Though still woulda went MBA for her since she thinks out MBP is too heavy.

HOLY COW! I just checked tracking and it is changed to a delivery of TODAY!! I ordered yesterday at 1:15 eastern!! Wow next day free shipping to boot.

Anyway, good luck getting what yah want.

Peace

Thank you for this wonderful piece of information :D
Yestersay afternoon I canned my 13"/8GB/256GB/i5 order and got this Ultimate.
I called Apple directly and they had 12. By dinner time they were gone.

Funny thing, the Ultimate will get here before to BTO.
