Finally replacing my late 2014 iMac i5 with the 2023 Mac Mini m2 Pro. Still debating the tilt vs height adjustable Studio Display - possibly an Apple refurbished one.

What is the use case? M2 Pro + 32 GB RAM + 4 TB storage seems like a pretty powerful combination.
My main home computer. I generally keep my computers for several years (early 2009 iMac for 5 1/2 years and late 2014 iMac for 8+ years).

Being that there is no option to upgrade anything internally (like I did on both iMacs RAM and HDD to SSD) and I am not a big fan personally of external drives other than for backup, it is a bit of future proofing in my use case. I use my iMac mainly for video and photo editing. Overkill? Maybe. Am I happy? Yes I am (plus it is a gift).

Awesome! I hope you enjoy it and make great use of it. Thanks for letting me know.

I just ordered a new 2018 MacMini i7, 32gb ram to replace my 2014 i7 16gb ram. This is the last of the intel based mini and since I'm also going to convert this to a fully windows 10 computer for gaming and streaming it's a no brainer. My setup also uses egpu and when i went to reference how much this change will make using PCgamebenchmark.com and ploting in my details. It said the new mini can run 94% of the games out there vs using the 2014 can only run 32%. And since M1/M2 silicone Mini's can't run windows natively I figure i get it now before they are gone.

Anybody get a shipping notification yet? I ordered the base Mini M2 on the day it was announced. Status says preparing to ship. Do the first batch or orders come directly from China like the pre-ordered iPhones do? First time ordering a Mac on launch day. Upgrading from a 15" mid-2015 MBP. Although still a work horse, decided it was time to upgrade the home office setup. Will be hooking it up with Dell Ultrasharp 32 inch U3223QE.

My guess? It will ship directly from a warehouse in the US or wherever you are based. These devices have been stockpiled since the holiday season, so I don't think they will be shipping out directly from China.

I had ordered the M2 Pro, 32gb, 1tb but had a moment of clarity and cancelled it in favor of the base model M2 Pro. Delivers 25th Jan

What helped you see things clearer?

I originally configured an M2 Pro Mini with 32GB/2TB but spent all weekend debating the cost and researching the real benefits. With my light photo/video editing use I think I'll reorder the base M2 Pro with 1TB.

Just the cost of those upgrades and realizing that I'll (almost certainly) never need 32gb of ram.

The latest Drk Mode podcast helped.

I ordered an M2 Mini with 16GB and 1TB on the day of announcement, delivery date of 1/26.
I got an email that the order has shipped, it is coming from China.
Between Apple and UPS the delivery dates are all over the place, but it should arrive this week.

The standard configurations (8/256, 8/512, 16/512) have probably been stockpiled domestically for immediate shipping and availability on launch day in Apple stores, but I'm not surprised BTO/custom orders need to come straight from the factory in China.

They are sitting in Louisville, KY already... I am surprised it didn't arrive a day early though.

Bought the base M2 Mini to replace my 11 year old Dell 8200 that I use as my Plex/Sabnzbd server. 1/24 delivery.

Yes, I got a shipping notification says Shipped 23 Jan from Shenzhen, Delivery date 25-31 Jan to Sweden.

I ordered from adorama and it said "backordered" today, I guess I waited too long to press it (late Saturday), so I cancelled the order and, ugh, I hope my tax refund covers it, ordered the base M2 with 512 as I saw, after I placed my order, other base M products with 256 slow down when you fill the RAM as it only has the one NAND chip, so I'm paying an extra $200, which feels dirty Apple. But, this way I'll be able to keep it for a longer time. ...in any case, the site says manufacturer will start shipping on jan 24 8am, so, now we'll see if I get this this week or not, 3 days later and I don't know how many orders of this model are ahead of mine.

I ordered an M2 Pro/16GB/1 TB, should arrive in the 2nd week of Feb (delay due to having to get back home to get the serial number off a 2018 i7 model, but found the trade-in offer from Tim Apple rather insulting. ;))

also watching used Mac Studio's go up for sale, prices appear to be dropping now so I may just get one of those instead. :)
