Couldn't agree more. Youd think theyd cater to their high end customers at least a little bit. Nope.

I think that it's a bit naive to assume that we are Apple's high end customers. Unless you're running a visual effects or production house, you're not a priority. For Apple, this is a new product and a vast departure from their last professional offering. Because of the doubts raised by the lack of internal expandability and what not, Apple is prioritizing getting orders into the hands of a) the production houses I mentioned earlier, and b) getting stock configurations into stores.

Apple wants the "pros" using the nMP because they hope that after using it, some of the doubts about the product disappear. If Johnny VFx guy in Company A is happy with his nMP he'll mention it to Joey VFx guy in Company B who may decide to get his own nMP. The opinion of someone who works in the industry outweighs any review done at home by someone using FCP or even the majority of tech sites.

As far as getting stock configurations into stores - product visibility, impulse buyers, and people who don't need a CTO for their uses. There are still Apple stores that don't have a display unit and filling those gaps should be a priority.

UPS tracking said my nMP was in the UPS facility 15 minutes away but wouldn't ship until Monday, so I thought I'd head over there and see if they'd give it to me. Turns out it's still on the trailer and won't be unloaded until Monday so they couldn't even get to it. I was within yards of the damn thing and couldn't have it. Damn you weekend!!!

After my "experience" with my order and cancellation of same, I got a survey from Apple. I did not quite fill the comments box but, it was pretty well exercised.

Not that an actual person will read it but at least I got to vent.

The spreadsheet got damaged again. The header row got moved down and some rows are frozen that shouldn't be. The first 11:48 revision from today has the header row in the correct place. The second 11:48 revision does not.

I have a question. I would like double check my payment that I used for buying my Mac Pro. I don't want any problem that my order will get cancel. I think I will have to call Apple to do so. They will ask for card number and expiration date. What about security code? Is it safe to tell rep on phone about my security code?

Well if it helps at all, they confirmed to me on the phone that they have shifts working on the weekends which lends support to the claims of people on the spreadsheet who got preparing to ship notices on the 11th and 18th.

The difference is, when you get an iphone on launch day and are standing in line - they come through and give everyone a card so that you know youre waiting in line for a phone that they physically have in store. Then, when the line starts moving, its on a first come first served basis. Why not do first come first served with the mac pro too? It would make sense to imho. Perhaps resellers and production houses became "first" somehow but that seems unsavory to me. You dont see Apple doing that with iPhones, but its a totally different product so I get that.

I dont disagree with your sentiment that a mac pro purchase might not qualify as a high end customer depending in whatever metric you like to use - but how many people spend 5k+ on a mac vs how many spend $200 on a phone. Id wager were in a pretty slim percentile. Youd think theyd cater a little to their *slightly higher* end customers.

You really think stock display units should be a priority over getting machines into users hands? I respectfully disagree. Id guess that most of the folks who the mac pro is targeted at already know about the machine and while seeing in person might help a prospective purchase there is far less of a need to have mac pros in the store than say, a new iphone; something everyone will come in and fondle.

I dont think it was your intention to insinuate im not a "pro". I may not be pixar but i make my living working for a international production company on multiple extremely high rated shows you are probably aware of as well as freelancing on many you likely aren't. This machine, when it comes, will translate to more work done, and ultimately more money in my pocket. I am the guy in my network who evangelizes Apple to others, and im sure many other nMP early adopters are too. Is it wise to give us a less than stellar experience? I hardly think slighting people like me or in similar positions by wasting capacity on stock units while not even providing any sort of refined guidance on shipment times is a little absurd. Thats not half as bad as shipping them out of order is though; thats just plain stupid. If I had waited up on the morning of the 19h, id be pretty pissed off. As it is when I ordered i knew (somewhat) what I was getting into have long ago submitted to the fate of a february delivery.

You can make the call for yourself as to whats more important. Getting the machines in the hands of users who will then gush to everyone that will listen, or making sure various online resellers have a bit of stock. One is delighting users and one is giving them the finger. Take your pick.

It's no different then them looking at the security code at the grocery store.

Congrats.

Apple hit my CC  at 3:00 pm eastern time and status changed to preparing to ship :D

Shipping to KY should be faster. For some reason (Known only to UPS) mine is circling around from Charlotte to Greensboro to Southern Pines.

Just wondering how is this is any different than when ordering a new very popular
motor. You get a vague delivery time a few months ahead and you then wait for more news of a more specific delivery date. All the jumping up and down and whining about it makes very little difference!

What about when you want update the new payment method on the phone? (Use another card) Do we have to tell them security code as well?

Yep. you'll have to give them the security code. It's the same information you have to provide on the site. Keep in mind the only way to update payment information to a new card is to cancel the order and redo it.

Sod Off.

(Just kidding - I learned that from Doc Martin)

I've got three on order, split across two orders. The 8 core just went to Preparing for Shipment in the past hour. The 6 core (on the same order number as the 8) is still in processing, as is the 4 core on a different order number. I was curious to see if the 6 and the 8 would be fulfilled at the same time and it looks like the answer is no.

Congrats to everyone who has seen their orders progress today!

Nugget, your 8 core and mine are the only two of that spec among January orders. I knew it would be too much to expect mine to turn from processing at the same time as yours! CC still not charged.

Still no movement on Asia Pacific orders either. Shocking.

I sincerely dont mean to come across as whiny. Im merely trying to explain the counter viewpoint some on here have to the "alls fine" mentality that others on here do.

FINALLY!

CC Charged full amount early yesterday morning. No change on Apple order status page yet though.

I think this is the first non-USA/Canada/Europe CTO order?

Well, I did call Apple and ask to have my shipping upgraded, which they did for free (from standard to overnight). So that's at least something.
