Too bad.

I don't get the tiny SSD in the stock models. I ordered a stock hex except for a 1TB SSD. I am baffled by Apple's view that 256G is sufficient for any power-user workstation.

i agree with you. i suspect the 256 was to hit a specific price-point ($n,999). i've seen this behavior before with some big companies. sounds old as it is a premium product but the have to do this instead of $(n+1),159 or similar.

----------

From the spreadsheet your order changed to Preparing for Shipping today... Is the spreadsheet get screwed up or it actually does change to that status?

no, it's actually in that status. i don't have any hopes up as we've seen things like this still take a while. no huge deal.

Thank you GoodbyeHarmony (change to HelloHarmony now?), Uzziel, Subdiv... What a journey.

My first desktop Mac since a PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8GHz is a step closer.

I really hope Apple means what its says about this being a computer for the next ten years; I really do not want to have to go through this again anytime soon. I knew what I was letting myself in for with the "January" estimate, but still I feel like this process has eaten me from within, day by day, and won't be something I'll forget. Maybe I'm just weak! <cue music>

Before getting the news, I'd checked my CC and order status no more than 15 minutes earlier, and there was no change to either. I then read my son a bedtime story about jellyfish and coral reef. Once he was on his way, I checked again and both had ticked over. How many thousand times I refreshed my status before this evening, I do not know.

Given my experience, I agree with AJClayton that a CC charge which isn't accompanied with a status change is possibly more reason for a further let down. It's almost cruel that some have been on a further emotional loop by having their cards pre-authorised only for the payment to drop off.

I genuinely hope that all of us on here who are still waiting get good news very very soon. It really can't be long to wait now though.

For the few of us whose status has just changed, it's worth bearing in mind that to date couriers haven't collected from Apple on Sundays, so I'm guessing the next we'll see an update is going to be tomorrow night (CST) / Tuesday morning (GMT)...

After my status changed to "Preparing for Shipment" on Thursday evening, I got a "Shipped" status at 12:57PM CST on Friday...so you'll probably see that early evening tomorrow...and you may see your tracking go live before you retire for the evening.

Oh my word. Something just happened.

Edit: Simultaneous CC charge and change to "preparing for shipment".

After I did my stat update I went off to have a beer to drown my sorrows (again). Have just come back to this news. No fewer than 5, yes 5 European orders all flicked over to preparing for shipping at once.

Astonishing.

Really pleased for everyone who got this news today. Hoping the rest of us aren't too far behind.

Sleep well! :)

Congrats, man! Very happy for you.

Technically, the wait for Feb deliveries only start next Saturday, but it has already been excruciating. Just hoping it won't be 28th Feb when I get to see some change in status.

Congratulation on your new status.
I hope that status will change to "Shipped" soon.
Mine is in "prepare for shipment" for more than 48 hours, probably because of the week end.

Ugh, I'm really expecting(hoping) that mine will ship in the first week of February considering I am the first Feb order on the spreadsheet. But if we've learned anything yet, its that the time the order was placed does not necessarily correlate to shipping order.

For your sake I hope it works out. I am near the top of the January list - and nada. I have given up seeing it until February - and I may cancel it if Apple waits until the last day to ship. It may be the only way to register my complaint and disgust with the way they rolled this out.

A new week, the same old ****.

I was understanding with Apple, but now I'm just getting pissed off about the way it's been handled.

5 days and counting.

Nowhere else is there so many of us eagerly waiting and excited to see a $4k+ charge on our credit cards. I'm still siting for February by the way.

Congratulation on your new status.
I hope that status will change to "Shipped" soon.
Mine is in "prepare for shipment" for more than 48 hours, probably because of the week end.

Last weekend, /dev/toaster and others saw their orders move to "shipped" over the weekend, when they were not in fact collected until Monday night, CST. Looks like Apple haven't done that this weekend and your order will turn from "preparing" when it really has been shipped tonight CST / tomorrow lunchtime Tokyo time.

For those in January still waiting, particularly who ordered in the first hour, it might be worth a call to Apple. The customer services teams will now have considerable difficulty defending their line that "orders are shipped in order" with only 5 days left in the month.

Given 6 European orders updated yesterday (the most in a single day, I think), there is still hope that Apple is going to fulfil its January promise. I have to confess that I'd given up all hope until yesterday.

Thanks to CouponPages for posting those stats. I'd planned to do exactly this at the end of the month when creating the non-editable spreadsheet of January orders and include that data in a separate tab. I'm also going to include the mean average number of days wait for orders in each region.

I just want the January orders to hurry up so us Feb people get some action! My 2008 iMac, maxed out with a whopping 4GB of RAM is really struggling to run photoshop CC as each day goes by. Or maybe its just my imagination.....

The customer rep I was in contact with never said anything about the order they were sent, just that I would get it before end of January (I ordered within 10 first minutes).
I remember when I had ordered the first MBPr, people who had ordered days after me got theirs sent before me. Think mine was sent on the last day of those 6 weeks.
Will be interesting to see the February orders, then I think we will definitely see people who ordered days after other get theirs before. No idea why, but it's nothing new from the nMP.

I see there are already 5 nMPs changed to preparing to ship on 27/1. Not bad given that the day hasn't really started yet in Austin. That coupled with 6 European ones yesterday certainly indicated a step in the right direction for the January lot. I guess it had to speed up though given the fact that the amount of orders promised for February has to be infinitely more than that promised for Jan.

Oh My!!!

What a sight that is for my burned in retinas from looking at the order page

It just jumped to Preparing for shipment :D

Now this is funny (well actually NOT). I'm self employed, and all January I had work planned in my studio. The one day that I have to work on location is on Friday the 31st. I'll bet ya, that's when my nMP will be delivered. I already said this jokingly to friends the day I had ordered it and it gave me the shipping in January message. Never in the world did I expect it to probably come true. I'll just have to wait and see.

For those of you still waiting, February is around the corner and March will be there before you know it. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you and hope Apple's assembly will pick up pace quick.

Us February people have already got a headstart since theres only 28 days ;)

Yep, and I hope for you they won't feel like six months. It's been the longest January of my life ;-)

When I close my eyes at night, I still see an inversed Apple order screen :D
