it's not exactly quibbling--just poking fun at someone (not you) who repeatedly said the hole thing is dishonest.

it's not the end of january yet.

many people got their nMPs earlier in the month. apple did exceed expectations for some folks, but not all. can't please all of the people all of the time.

the people on the tracking spreadsheet -- us -- represent such a small sliver of business. nevertheless, i don't expect that their GOAL is to disappoint anyone.

wish we knew their fulfillment model, just as a curiosity. i wonder if it has anything to do with configurations and assembly line optimization. the real problem is that the information we do NOT have far exceeds what we do know.

we could guess that our orders are representative of the entire population, but we may well be wrong.

i still think we're going to most january orders fulfilled by january, but i'll also wager that there will be at least ONE that is not fulfilled.

I too wish we had more insight into the fulfillment model. It is very opaque. My frustration stems from seeing systems starting to ship and hoping that I would receive mine early in the month since my order was placed so quickly after the store came up. More visibility into the fulfillment process would have helped in this regard.

I agree that we will likely see the remaining January orders fulfilled before the end of the month... but there is always that one that doesn't make it for some reason.

the corp employee thing is interesting. quite often companies hold back order on hot items. i see yours is a corp employee order...but others who claim the same have received theirs.

interesting. obviously they're not holding them back for *that* particular reason.

still, i suspect there is something more complex that is happening, but we'll never really know as we're not involved in their supply or assembly chain.

I think it is because I live in Norman, OK -- the home of the OU Sooners -- and these are being assembled in Longhorn country in Austin. Every time my order pops up a UT fan quietly shuffles it to the bottom. :)

lots of assumptions were made on all our parts about the ordering process.

even for those who placed their order practically instantly, all that was promised is 'ships by january'. apple still haven't failed to deliver on that (though i suspect at least one order will get missed).

it suggests their logistics were more complex than "we can build x orders per day, so estimate the ship dat based on the order in which it was received."

if it were that simple we all could have been given a specific date (or even week), but i suspect it is not that simple.

Hi all

Here's the daily stat update. Lots of movement in Europe since yesterday but business as usual everywhere else, apparently.

This is the number of "January" orders with no date information at all.

Here's how it stood at 5.30pm on Sunday (UK time)

US - 14 out of 66 still with no dates
Canada - 2 out of 11 still with no dates
Europe - 17 out of 31 still with no dates
Asia/Oceania - 8 out of 13 still with no dates

And at 4.30pm Monday (UK time)

US - 14 out of 66 still with no dates
Canada - 2 out of 11 still with no dates
Europe - 9 out of 31 still with no dates (including mine [sob])
Asia/Oceania - 6 out of 14 still with no dates

Keep hitting that refresh key…!

How about Northern Hemisphere vs Southern Hemisphere?

Northern Hemisphere: 93/115 orders preparing to ship or better = 80%
Southern Hemisphere: 2/8 orders preparing to ship or better = 25%

I know there is a very small number of orders from the Southern Hemisphere but that doesn't make it any less frustrating. My 2007 iMac is still hanging in there, just wish I didn't have to do all my renders overnight!

You make a valid point there. I think all of us with "January" ship dates that haven't seen any progress yet are all equally concerned where-ever we happen to be sitting endlessly pressing the refresh key. Your orders down under do seem to have been the most neglected - I feel your pain.

I'm using a 2006 model Mac Pro 1,1 here which I first thought about upgrading nearly 3 years ago. "Apple haven't updated the MP for nearly a year," I thought at the time, "best to hold off for the inevitable upgrade that'll be coming in the Spring or Summer of 2011"

I'm still waiting.

So I emailed 'Tim Cook' as well. I got a call just now from Samantha at Apple (Singapore call centre) who was very nice and apologetic etc and is following it up. No update on my order directly yet.

One interesting thing she did mention was that 'the Australian shipment was sent over the weekend' and when I enquired further about this 'group shipping' method, she said - as far as she had been advised - 'CTOs and stock units were bulk transported together to Australia from Austin'.

I don't know if this also helps our friends over in NZ, but I hope a similar method happened over the weekend for you guys.

However, I'm still unconvinced - I find it very strange considering other orders to HK, Thailand, Japan & UAE have been shipped direct from Austin to the customer without need of a silly 'group' transport solution.

I know we Aussies and Kiwis are 'far away' from the rest of the world, but if B&H can get a 40KG shipment to me in Sydney from New York in two days, why can't America's most profitable tech company afford to do the same for their premium customers? Is a singular $7000 purchase still not enough to warrant a bit of extra effort and service?

nMP has arrived!!

After my status changed to "Prepare for shipping" in the morning of Saturday, more than 36 hours, I saw nothing. At 10 AM today, I almost gave up it change to "Shipped" today.
At 10:13, I received an email from Apple Store, and that says, it was shipped Jan 27 (yesterday ) and will arrive 28. While I started looking at package tracking system of Yamato transportation, the door bell rang, and I received my nMP. It was 10:15 AM!!
I checked the tracking system of Yamato and found it arrived to Tokyo, the afternoon of yesterday. I guess, when the status changed to "Prepare for shipping", it was actually shipped from Austin (the afternoon of last Friday in US).

Anyway, it was a nice surprise.

You thought you'd get it SOONER rather than later? :D

Thank you, I'll be here all week! Or longer depending on when my order processes....

I'm still hitting refresh. I'm one of the 2 out of 11 Canadians "shipping in January" that hasn't seen any progress. Now my status site says "we'll be back. We're busy updating the apple store for you and will be back shortly". At least it looks different than it has since December 19th -- I'm expecting the same old processing your order message to return shortly. I legit am scared that mine won't ship this month. It just seems like it's cutting it too close having zero progress. No credit card movement even. This computer better haul ass.

The same with me...until yesterday evening. So I got upset and called Apple support. And guess what? She says: I have good news for you. The system will leave stock within 24 hours. And this morning I got the "sent out" message. It should arrive until Friday.
PUHHHH!!!!!

BTW: The Apple lady told me, that she can see the status change before it is refreshed on the order status website, so why not calling support if your delivery status still on January....

Ugh, called again and got to know there "is a problem with my order". Something with my credit card, and I will be contacted by an order specialist within 24 hours. :(
Why wasn't I informed of this earlier? When I called a week earlier, it was fine. Anyone had a similar experience?

Hmm, the Apple Store has been offline for over an hour now. Could that mean there will be new Mac Minis??

But more importantly, I can't get to my tracking number to see where my nMP is hanging out and when it'll arrive!!

Apple FINALLY took payment on my credit card

Apple FINALLY took payment on my credit card almost 30 minutes ago! How long after that before you got the prepared for shipping notification? I purchased 1 ½ hours after the Apple store opened on their website. If I had known it would be this constricted, I would have paid for it the minute the store came back up. I was worried that i would get in trouble for doing personal while at work so I waited until break. I should have just risked getting in trouble. Dec 19 to Jan 28 is absolutely NUTS. Never had to wait this long for ANYTHING! I am one of the final few that still has not received their unit that ordered very early on the first morning. I will assume that the spread sheet is probably a good representation of buyers of the nMP. Anyway, the suffering is almost over now! I probably won't get much sleep until it arrives.

Its funny watching all the comments on here while i wait for my February delivery. While i understand the frustration, Apple have so far delivered on their promises (although there are only 3 more days left of Jan, so we will see if that continues) so everyone should just take a step back, grab another coffee and chill.

to be honest to myself: somehow this long wait makes the system even more special and exciting. Of course I am pissed: 44 days for getting a COMPUTER???? But it feels a little like a kid waiting for the presents at christmas....
If you'd got the nMP on 20th December morning it wouldn't be special. Now it is.

(Having said that, I got the confirmation for shipping via UPS on Friday :D)
