Mine is in February. If it is not shipped within the first week of February, I will certainly cancel my order to avoid the anxiety of waiting so that I can concentrate on my work and live a healthier life. If I have to cancel my order, I will reorder an nMP when it is ready to be shipped within 24 hours or within a few days.

Therefore, my anxious waiting for this nMP will be definitely over by February 7, 2014.

Well you may as well cancel now then, strange approach, having waited this long and cancelling in the second week of Feb when you would only have to wait two more weeks seem daft. Each to their own :)

The waiting makes me less efficient on my work and it also affects the quality of my life. To get back on track, I just want to get rid of the anxiety due to the waiting for this nMP.

As a matter of fact, my waiting has not been very long. I placed the current order on January 16, 2014. Since I already felt the great anxiety within this short period of time because I am not very good at waiting for things, I made such a decision to resurrect myself.

Fair enough :) I ordered mine on 7th Jan. Sadly im not the most patient of people, espeically with my 2008 iMac seeming to get slower everyday but i know it will arrived sooner rather than later. With current orders now moved into March i would rather hang on to my Feb date so i can replace my iMac.

Just pretend you didnt order one and then it will be a nice surprise when it does arrive ;)

@dranix: yes, my nMP called me that one of the nMPs in the tour group lost his sun glasses in Newark so they returned to look after it. :D
Honestly: No idea. Estimated delivery day is still Friday.

Hey guys,

How long does it take to receive a tracking number?

My nMP has been shipped on the 27th. According to the e-mail that I received from Apple it should arrive Friday the 31st. But I still don't have a tracking number. Not in my order and not in the mail.

How long did it take for other Europeans to receive a tracking number?

This time you got my point. I have been thinking of such a curve:

Write/read speed
|_
|
|_
|
|_
|
|_
|
|_
|
|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____ Fill percentage

The corrected curve would look like this:

Write/read speed
|_
|
|_
|
|_
|
|_
|
|_
|
|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____|_____ Time

Time is what slows down SSDs, because the older the drive is, the more times each cell will be written. The reason this seems to be linked to capacity is that a drive that fills quickly will likely re-write that small empty space over and over, rather than writing to fresh space.

To be clear, the more expensive SSDs have MUCH longer lifespans due to a combination of better flash (some as many as 100,000 write cycles per cell), and better controllers, which spread the writes out as much as possible and that have more "spares".

To make this happen, they pre-allocate the spares which makes them more expensive for the same (reported) capacity. So a high end drive that is sold as a 512 GB drive may actually be 768 inside with 35% or more allocated for spares. So the 512 would cost as much as or more than the price of a 768.

Well, my saga continues. Although hopefully the end is in sight.

True to his word, my Irish Apple contact phoned me to say that my order will ship tomorrow. "That's earlier than expected," he said, which made me smile, although January 30th is earlier than January 31st so I can't fault his logic.

My order status page and bank card remain unaffected by this news so considering how much browser refreshing I've been doing so far this month, after tomorrow I may have to purchase a new keyboard. :D

My other contact Stateside has gone rather quiet. She did say she would phone when my order ships so it'll be interesting to see if that happens.

February people should take heart from all this. It looks like Apple may fulfil their "January" orders after all, although we only have the spreadsheet to go on. We'll find out soon enough. My only advice to February people is to expect dispatch on February 28th and if your machine leaves the factory any earlier then it's a bonus.

It's in the mail. You have to use the ups tracking with reference number.

Thanks Dranix for the reply. I haven't got an e-mail with a reference number (yet). Only a mail from Apple stating that the order has shipped. The blue button "follow shipment" in the e-mail leads back to the store order that has no info yet.

@bortraws: it takes some time until you get the UPS reference(!) number. If you look at UPS website, choose "more options" and then "track by reference".

Thanks 1stof9,
Yeah, must be. But Apple usually gives this info within 24 hrs. What shipment reference did you use at the UPS website under more options?

The order status gives you a forwarder reference number (10 digits), not the Apple order number (Wxxxx... in Germany). Use the forwarder reference number (I hope this is the right expression, in Germany it is called "Spediteur-Referenz-Nummer")

Just called Apple and my package comes via TNT-Express instead of UPS.

They gave me a reference number of the shipment but no tracking info is availble yet. It's weird though as everything I have ever ordered from Apple always came via UPS.

It's still on course for a Friday delivery though. That's good news!

Here we go, the rundown to the end of January so let's see how it's going… These are the January orders still with no dates at all added to the spreadsheet.

A reminder of how it stood at 6.55pm Tuesday (UK time)

US - 13 out of 67 to go
Canada - 2 out of 11 to go
Europe - 6 out of 31 to go
Asia/Oceania - 5 out of 14 to go

And at 4.45pm Wednesday (UK time). Changes in red.

US - 8 out of 67 still with no dates
Canada - 2 out of 11 still with no dates
Europe - 5 out of 31 still with no dates (including mine, but I'm told that will change tomorrow)
Asia/Oceania - 5 out of 14 still with no dates

I have my saxophone lesson on a Wednesday evening. I feel at tonight's session I should play the blues.

So when I called Apple a few weeks ago to enquire about my order they assured me that all orders were being upgraded to next day shipping. That, however, is not the case.

Mine shipped today, which is great, but it shipped UPS Ground, so I probably won't get it till Monday. Disappointing, but at least I'll have a remedy for my SuperBowl hangover.

Usually it goes to their main hub in Louisville, KY, which luckily for me in NYC is on the way and in the right direction. I've been pleasantly surprised by early delivery of Apple products before, but, ironically, those were coming from China!

Now it's back at Newark - Does one really have to understand that?

Dranix, firstofnine, I agree this is getting a little ridiculous.

For those who want to share in the tracking fun we are seeing...

Apple has been researching quantum shipping. Your computers are in a superposition of Newark and Philadelphia and apparently no one is observing them, so they can't resolve into one location.

What a trauma this has been! Major congratulations will be in order very soon.

Reflecting on all this, maybe I would have preferred to have ordered just as the estimated dispatch moved over to February. That way, I wouldn't have wasted a month refreshing my browser and could reasonably expect dispatch in early February.

But then I have to remind myself that Apple ships in random order...
