Beeing a little curious - Does UPS Ground ship the box all over the us, too?

Actually, they like to put a single box on the big double trailer trucks that emit the really black smoke and drive them to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado, then sit there for however many minutes as the package weighs with the throttle all the way down so the pollution can rise quicker into the jet stream. Then a helicopter will come and pick the box up and transfer it to a pre-smog regulated diesel truck that sits (while running full-throttle) on the back of a coal-powered train that then takes it to the opposite side of the country from the final destination. At that point it will be put on an electric vehicle that transports it to a jumbo jet loaded with a maximum load of 18 lbs that will travel, again, the opposite direction of the final destination around the entire world before it lands at the hub near the pre-smog regulated diesel trucks that make the local deliveries.

It's all very green and economical. ;)

Apple has been researching quantum shipping. Your computers are in a superposition of Newark and Philadelphia and apparently no one is observing them, so they can't resolve into one location.

Good job I'm geeky enough to actually understand what you're saying. :D

What did you do to avoid that sick junk that ups apparently is?

Did you check the box for 'fragile shipment' during the ordering process?

If you do, Apple will mark the package with appropriate labels indicating to handle with care.

If you did not do this while placing the order, your package will get handled with all the other less fragile packages, which are subject to major vibration and rough handling. Unlike the "fragile" packages that are handled by human hands only, these packages get tossed about.

Don't worry though--I suspect you checked the right box during the process, though it is a little hidden.

Called Apple and they upgraded me to next day shipping via FedEx.
I'm having it delivered to my address in the U.S., picking it up there and bringing it back to Germany with me. I was going to be there anyway so it worked out, although I was sweating it a little over the past few days. Hopefully yours will arrive before I return with mine next Friday! ;)

When shipping to an Apple Store, are you still given any kind of tracking information when it does indeed ship?

(this may have been covered already.. my apologies)

I ordered an 1/3, and have a February ship ETA. I'm going to go mad before it is actually ready for me to pick up.

Congratulations to everyone that's received theirs... (and thanks for getting out of the way for my order!!)

Indeed it did. It's technically possible that we'll receive ours a day early too. All depends on how busy the customs chaps and chappesses are tonight...

Think that may be optimistic. Synchreon Koeln -> UK usually 24 hours IME - lord knows why!

What a trauma this has been! Major congratulations will be in order very soon.

Reflecting on all this, maybe I would have preferred to have ordered just as the estimated dispatch moved over to February. That way, I wouldn't have wasted a month refreshing my browser and could reasonably expect dispatch in early February.

But then I have to remind myself that Apple ships in random order...

It's a lottery, there's no doubt. It'll be interesting to see if the same thing happens to the February people or if things settle down.

I've been out this evening and it won't surprise you, I'm sure, that I checked my order status on my return at about 8.30pm (no change). Been busy doing other things so just checked again, and again, and again. Imagine my surprise (checking again) "Preparing for dispatch"!!!! That status has been unchanged for 41 days so I had to peer through where the wording had burned on to the screen.

Hopefully in the morning I'll have an estimated ship date. I'll be interested to hear when yours arrives compared to the estimate.

Happy days! :D

And don't forget german Zoll... These guys are not the fastest.

Haha. Peabo's nMP was turned around in Koeln in 4.5 hours: it arrived at 23:13, had the import scan at 00:10 and departed at 03:46. Admittedly, the balance of tracking logs on the interwebs show a wait of at least a day there though.

Oh, sorry to hear you're waiting again. Another call to Apple maybe....

...oh wait a minute, what's that, preparing for dispatch! I'm so used to seeing your posts reporting no update at all that this didn't register at first!

Absolutely delighted for you. You've finally been chosen!!!

Well don't have any experience with the guys at Köln. My normal contacts are Frankfurt Airport and Hanau (my nearest customs office) and I know that I had once a amazon.co.uk parcel sitting in Fra for 3 weeks... Normal time for that is 2 days to my door ;)

Finally have a nice shiny Mac Pro sitting on my desk, my word they are a beautiful piece of engineering. Now to spend the rest of the week setting it up.

Hope those of you that have not received theirs yet get them quick smart!

Ohhh.... now I'm starting to fully understand your pain with the couriers.

Looks like we've just hit the import scan at Köln / Koeln / Cologne.

Is inter uk parcels slower? Pure german amazon parcels get delivered 99% next day with prime.

I'd say a bit less than 99% turn up next day on Prime - more like 90% in my experience. Amazon occasionally use Royal Mail which isn't trackable and almost always takes longer than a day. Other couriers tend to be much better.

Ah, I have a nice way to force DHL - I use "Packstation" that are vending machines where you can receive parcels and send ones. As they are owned by DHL only DHL can send to them ;)
