Cancelled my order

I have officially joined the "Cancelled" club.

I'm just gonna grab a maxed-out iMac for now and wait and see what comes of the nMP.

Here's the January order stat update for today. Getting really close now, so it'll be interesting to see what happens over the next 24 hours:

Here's how it stood at 4.45pm on Wednesday (UK time).

US - 8 out of 67 still with no dates
Canada - 2 out of 11 still with no dates
Europe - 5 out of 31 still with no dates
Asia/Oceania - 5 out of 14 still with no dates

and at 4.15pm on Thursday (UK time). Changes in red.

US - 5 out of 67 still with no dates
Canada - 2 out of 11 still with no dates
Europe - 3 out of 31 still with no dates
Asia/Oceania - 4 out of 13 still with no dates

So 14 to go… although it's possible that some of those 14 have either been cancelled or have been delivered and the recipient has passed out from the shock so been unable, therefore, to update the spreadsheet.

Edit: Just checked the spreadsheet and only 1 of the outstanding January orders doesn't have a MacRumors username against it, so it should be possible to find out from the others whether they're really still waiting or something has changed since they added their details to the spreadsheet

Spreadsheet update

Thanks for the ongoing updates, AJClayton.

After your final January update tomorrow afternoon (if you want to do one then), I'll begin the migration of actual and assumed completed January orders to a new view-only spreadsheet. As the final few January orders complete in early February, I'll manually move those over to that view-only spreadsheet. That way, the February folks don't need to wade through rows of green and the existing data won't be suseptible to accidental or intentional data loss. At the end of February, I'll move the completed February orders across.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aoyx0F5rjIn7dFBRbXQ2Q3BwbXc2S2NhWUVzVlAxUEE&usp=sharing

Hope everyone is still ok with this.

Cheers

I will join you on February 7, 2014 if mine has not been shipped by that day.

it's really, really nice. i have the core i7/780M version (only thing not maxed out is the 512 SSD vs 1TB.

i don't do heavy video, but for still photography, audio, VMs, etc. it has been shockingly good.

i got mine in early january to evaluate. i thought i might keep it but thought it more likely i would find it lacking.

since my nMP hasn't shown up, i phoned apple to tell them that i was hoping to do the side-by-side comparison for suitability. they told me i had 30 days to do the eval. i'm approaching that, so i called in yesterday and they told me to take the time i need since i don't yet have the nMP.

wow.

why not keep your order for the nMP but order the iMac and test it out?

i wake up every day and check the nMP order status, but with each passing day i have more thoughts about keeping the iMac. i sure do want the nMP and would love to have it here for testing, but i am also thinking that the iMac is not only an excellent solution today (for one not doing tons of video AND if one also wants the monitor), but it also buys quite a bit of time to see whether:
a) developers update SW to make dramatic gains in the apps i use
b) the 2xGPU thing catches on (outside of heavy video)
c) there's a nMP refresh that uses newer processors and/or newer cards and/or a price drop (e.g. more storage for less $).

hard decision, but *with today's apps* and with my non-pro-video workload, the iMac holds its own.

i'm torn.

Sounds like a good idea. I will do an update again tomorrow afternoon. It may also be worth a few of us picking off a handful of outstanding names each and sending private messages to see if they've had any news?

My Mac Pro is in Louisville now. Going back through the spreadsheet I'm expecting it to show up in Germany next as it starts its European tour, but it could just as easily bounce around a few more states first. Who knows?!

I assume yours didn't show up today after all? Tomorrow it is, then.

I'm guessing it will. Apple is always early with new technologies. Being that CPU's have stalled in performance gains, this will become one of the best ways to get more performance out of new computers. Expect to see other companies ratchet this up. Might eventually even see an iMac with two dedicated GPU cards, or new GPU designs with multiple chips on them.

yes, and it might be an excellent guess but it is still a guess at this point.

today's software (non-video apps) is largely not taking advantage of it, so something like an iMac in single-threaded mode holds its own.

it could be that in 1, 2, 3 years the iMac gets crushed in relation to a 2xGPU machine, but then we have gotten the solid performance now for those few years and removed much of the risk.

if it doesn't catch on, then a non-video user winds up with some wasted power.

regardless, waiting a bit allows someone to get in on v2 (MP7,1) which could see other benefits.

the iMac (again, for specific non-video uses) has the potential to do well now and limit downsides.

not an easy decision, but it is one worth discussing.

i'm not as informed on OUTbound international shipments (out of the US), but with INbound shipments it is not unusual to see multiple tracking items that make little to no sense -- e.g., Philadelphia, then Louisville, then Phila again moments later, then Louisville.

this has to do more with paperwork and processing. for INbound shipments, some customs work is done at locations other than the distribution centers. this could also be the case for the OUTbound packages. the package may not physically be making those trips.

Cat Ate My Mac Pro

I've been a Mac user since 1987, but I'm new to this forum. Good to be here.

I ordered right on Dec 19th, and still nothing (ordered from a reseller). I've been without a Mac since September, when my new kitten chewed through a mouse cable and fried the motherboard on my 2008 mp. So it's been particularly frustrating for me chasing this carrot on a stick. I figured, "why get it repaired when the new MacPro is coming out this fall?". September was fall. More like "coming out this FAIL".

Only silence,

My nMP should arrive tomorrow (Netherlands) but I still don't have any tracking info nor any e-mail from Apple. I called Apple and they said it should arrive tomorrow and as far as they can tell it's still on course. Apple's order status doesn't give any information either.

Apparently mine is shipping with TNT Express but I'm unable to track the darn thing. Apple's support gave me the number of the freight letter with which I should be able to track it. But no luck so far and no information known on TNT's website.

Has anyone else from Europe dealt with shipment of their nMP via TNT Express?

After my last check at 11pm 30th (Sydney time)(4am 30th PST) I awoke at 6am 31st (Sydney time)(11am 30th PST) and status had changed to "Preparing for shipment". CC payment still "pending".

Instead of individual shipments from Austin, there have been bulk shipments to Sydney from Austin while order status remained at "processing". Then "preparing for shipment" comes up upon shipment from Sydney. So I'm hoping for shipment from Sydney today and delivery on Monday 3rd (next working day).

It’s the morning of January 31 in Australia, and overnight I switched to ‘Preparing for shipment’…

EDIT: Uh yeah, what Platypus said. 15-all.

For now I can be thinking about how I'm going to transport it home from London to Surrey on the train without drawing attention.

Just pretend you're headed on a picnic!

Solution for bootcamp error

I think many people are looking at this thread so I post this message here.

For someone who is planning to install Windows using bootcamp assistance, and for someone who already encountered the error, please look at following my post.
https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=18712038#post18712038

I experienced both success and failures, and also found the way to reset nMP to the state which ensure successful installation by bootcamp.

Sketchy phone call

I'm one of the 2 in Canada still waiting with "shipping in January". I just called Apple to see wtf is up. The girl played dumb and implied that no more nMP's were shipping this month. 3 times she said that her 'system' tells her that the 'next shipment' will be going out in February. So I kept stressing the point that the email I received Jan 3 told me that it is avail to ship Jan and that my order status page still says Jan. I also mentioned that my mind was blown that people who ordered IN Jan have already received their CTO's and I ordered a few hours after the gates opened on Dec 19. She then changed her tune and said that "hopefully you will receive an email tomorrow saying that it shipped", but again, sounded like she was just stroking my ego even though she knew it wasn't going to happen. She kept telling me that she didn't know what was going on other than "I think it will be shipping some time in Feb". So I said, "I was hoping it would ship Jan 1, now I'm a few hours away from it being Jan 31 and still nothing. Does that mean my MP might not ship until Feb 31?" She said, "I'm not sure sir."
On the bright side, she did say that she changed my shipping to expedited. Sadly, since they haven't charged my mastercard yet, they'll probably bill me for that extra shipping too. Granted they haven't lied to me, yet. They may ship tomorrow, but I feel pretty uneasy when she basically tells me straight up that it's not going to happen. Mind = blown. Hopefully I post good news tomorrow. Oh, by the way, I did ask her if they've had a lot of orders placed and she said in a "holy crap" type tone, "OH YEAH!". I asked her for a quantity and she didn't have one, but it doesn't sound like they're only making 10 a day. I think our spreadsheet list of people is a tiny fraction of the people who actually are waiting.

Still no news from Apple

Well, on Monday, Apple took payment, but today, the payment expired and the funds are back in my account. I called Apple, still no news. Strange how everyone around me on the spreadsheet has had their nMP's shipped, but nothing for me. It's like they are ignoring my purchase for some reason and shipping everyone else's. I ordered 1 1/2 hour after they opened up sales for the nMP. The worst part is I could have purchased the standard machine from B&H but, since Apple took payment, I actually thought that I would be receiving my machine this week. Guess I was wrong. The people that purchased after me got their machines instead.
