Spoke too soon

I've been a Mac user since 1987, but I'm new to this forum. Good to be here.

I ordered right on Dec 19th, and still nothing (ordered from a reseller). I've been without a Mac since September, when my new kitten chewed through a mouse cable and fried the motherboard on my 2008 mp. So it's been particularly frustrating for me chasing this carrot on a stick. I figured, "why get it repaired when the new MacPro is coming out this fall?". September was fall. More like "coming out this FAIL".

Dooh! Spoke too soon. Mine's arriving tomorrow. :D

Got excited when I got a "Today's the day!" Text from Apple. It was just the ram I ordered. Between this and waiting for my Pebble Steel, February is 28 is one long wait.

So I got it, and I'm glad to have it. But the experience of setting it up has been frustrating. There was no documentation in the box, and no cool black apple stickers. When I started the computer up there was no welcome sequence leading into the setup assistant/migration assistant as usual; the computer was set up already for another user and insisted that I enter that user's password. Luckily the password hint for that user (I assume some tech in Austin) was the actual password, so I was able to get in. I had ordered it with Logic Pro X pre-installed. Logic Pro X was not pre-installed.

I know this is nitpicking, but after dropping over $10,000 and waiting 46 days for delivery I expected a little more of the old Apple magic. Looks like they're slipping.

But I thank everybody on this forum for giving me a place to commiserate with others who are waiting -- I hope you all get your machines soon and I know you'll all do great things with them!

It doesn't feel right... Maybe you should contact Apple see if the sent you a returned Machine incidentally?

Were it me, I'd be raising an almighty stink about getting (what sounds an awful lot like) a refurb.

I would not hesitate to call Apple support in this case. Something smells off there and for as much money as you dropped on that computer I would want to ensure that everything was spot on.

This had to be a mistake. It sounds like a refurb.

They're pretty good about fresh installs, especially since the OS is so integrated with your Apple ID. If there are potentially issues with missing stuff, it may be best to Command-R your way to a fresh Mavericks setup, just in case there were other things changed by whomever initially set it up.

If they linked Logic Pro X to your Apple ID, it'll install automatically anyway.

Yeah, if the Mac Pro wasn't so supply-contrained, I would be shipping this back. Having an account already created sounds really fishy. Who knows what might have been installed?

Given that it is in short supply, I don't know what I'd do.

I would make apple aware of it asap. Demand a new computer while you keep this one. This could also be qc'ing that was rushed. I've seen some macbooks on launch day come out of the box pre set up.

So don't be mad but make them aware.

Uggg, and seem to be getting worst, we're down to one update a day on the spreadsheet now, and I'm still way down in Feb

Was going really well until 1/30 with 5 updates daily, then it seem like it just all almost completely stopped

Off topic but, what's bigger? Your Genelec or your Mac Pro? And what inch sub is it?

Well you guys have got me all twitchy now! Just called Apple UK to see if i could press for a expected date and they said there was nothing on their systems but it would DEFINITELY ship in February (ordered 7th Jan) No doubt this means the 28th February.

And theres you lucky January people having now deserted this thread to play with your shiny new toys. :D

Yes this place has gone a bit quiet since Team January have left. Hoping for some movement on Feb orders soon. Given the fact that they've effectively promised a whole month's worth of orders shipping in Feb as opposed to the half day's worth in January, I would have expected much quicker movement than we're currently seeing.

Idk
How calling them would help but I think I've called them like thrice askin if I could get a better estimate on delivery.

Mine is the " February batch" and I've been such an optimist thinking apple might overdeliver and give me in January but didn't. Now that it's feb, I keep thinking tomorrow might be the day my card get charged and I'm a step closer but so far, nothing has changed. :(

I'm afraid if calling them too many times might get me blacklisted and they purposely delay my delivery. Hahah

Just gonna keep waiting and resist getting the stock model.

It will be really interesting to see whether February is a repeat of January, i.e. North American orders progress fairly steadily throughout the month but Europe and Asia/Pacific orders are significantly skewed towards the end.

I'm glad the waiting is all over for me!

The wait will be worth it! Remember that even if your card is charged, based on what happened last month, that isn't a definite indication of imminent shipment. You'll have seen some credit authori[z/s]ations falling off after a few days rather than the order moving to shipment :(

If it had been built in China, you might have got it last year. :) Not a criticism of the Texas factory though (as it certainly has its merits)...

My sanity did suffer in December (leading up to pre-orders opening) and January (for the random order of shipping)! I felt my mind was being eaten away as the weeks rolled by of refreshing order status and credit card balance. Do anything you can to avoid getting into a routine of refreshing regularly!

I'm actually replying on a Dell Optiplex 760 Windows PC. Ugh.

I just got notified from my credit card company that apple hit me for $4600 overnight. My order was placed on Dec 19 for "feb" shipment.

Apple order status still shows 'processing'

Did you see the box move just then? It was taunting me! I'm sure I put it closer to the back of the room…
Rather than the Mac Pro it's probably got one of those stone angels in it. [Dr Who reference]

I'm in the "ship in January" batch, ordered on 19th December but I'm still waiting, so not all the January crew have jumped ship yet! My status changed to "preparing" two days ago then to "shipped" yesterday evening, but there is still no tracking number available and the location shown on the order page started at London when it was preparing but has since changed to Hinckley. I'm guessing that's something to do with the AppleCare as I'm sure the nMP itself isn't in the UK yet, with estimated delivery not being till the 10th.

My credit card does now show the order but it's in the "pending" section as it was when they tested it then removed it a while ago, but I know things often don't get updated right away when I check my card status as I've seen things still in pending long after they were actually paid, so who knows whether they really have taken payment? My best guess is that they've done something with the AppleCare but the nMP is probably still being customised or sitting waiting for a carrier to collect it. Hopefully I'll have a tracking number soon then I'll have some idea where it is. Till then I'm feeling like a Mexican fisherman, lost at sea.

Oddly enough, the only place I've ever been to in Hinckley, where my order's now supposed to be, was Apple Motorcycles. That was many years ago and they're probably long gone by now, but it would be funny if they were handling deliveries for Apple. Come to think of it the nMP would probably fit in a tank bag or small rucksack...

I go that email too.The 'funny' part is the word 'recent' in the first sentence:

Thank you for your recent order. We know you’re excited to get started with your new Mac Pro, so we’d like to give you a quick update on the status of your order.

Your Mac Pro is scheduled to ship in February. When it does ship, we’ll email you with a more specific delivery date.
