Hmm, starting to get a little concerned now. I never had any of the emails but mine went to "preparing" then finally "shipped" more than 48 hours ago. So far so good, except that although the "Track" button has been there all along there is still no tracking number or carrier info. I know it says it can be up to 48 hours before it appears if a merge is required, (and I'm guessing it is because of the AppleCare ), but it's about 56 hours now and still no news. Also the credit card charge is still showing as pending rather than actually charged. Should I be worried?

Is there any way to try tracking it just from the shipment reference?

Interestingly (news to me anyway), if I look at my order through the US site it's been "shipped", but the UK site shows it as "dispatched". I thought something had changed on the order the first time I noticed, but it's just another case of two nations divided by a common language. They can call it "discombobulated" in honor of my current mental state for all I care, so long as my package turns up...

Not unless I'm doing something wrong! I've tried both the numbers I have on the UPS site, and various other ways like a couple of parcel tracking apps I have, but I've not found a match on any of them. Is there a special web page I'd need to try? Otherwise I guess it's just a case of waiting a while longer to see what happens.

Don't remember what exact combination I had to use with reference, country and zip code... didn't have to fill in everything though. Could be your phone number as reference.

No warning whatsoever (email, credit card, nothin'!), but I visited the order status page just now and it shipped! UPS says it's going to show up on Friday.

Preparing my Post-It© Note now.

----Edit----
OK, check that, there was a delivery notice, but my iPhone didn't alert me. I think someone's jealous....

just curious about your order date, when did you order?

I zoomed in. Those are the wrong SKU. They won't work with your Pro!

...

Just kidding. How much did they set you back? Where'd you order?

4x16 crucial chips for $200 per. ordered from amazon.

apple price is $1200 (less for edu/biz discounts, but still more than $800).

not 100% sure i will keep all of them but i got them just in case. the apple price to go from 16 to 32 is $400 on the stock 6-core, which is not bad....but then you have 4x8 chips. i think it is better to spend $400 on 2x16 chips, have the original 4x4 for backup or sale, and retain the option to add 16 or 32 more in the future.

I got the OWC 64GB kit (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other World Computing/1866D3R9M64/) because they've delivered the most reliable Mac memory to me for 15+ years.

yep, it's a great choice (only 7.5% more expensive). one reason i didn't like the OWC option is that you have to get 4 chips. there's a chance i will keep just 2 chips.

i also have free returns while i decide, and free 2-day shipping.

OWC is a great option and i have memory from them for my MP3,1.

if someone is not ready for 64 but wants to get 32 and preserve options, crucial is a good way to go.

Absolutely true. But one added benefit for the 'committed-to-64' person is that OWC will take your existing 16GB back for $100. That makes them a lot cheaper.

yes. but the committed-to-64 person upgraded the 4-core base to 6c and thus had only 12gb to exchange ($75), to be fair.

OWC charges shipping (for faster methods), if comparing apples-to-apples.

both have lifetime warranties, but OWC has the overnight advance exchange. i don't think crucial does. that could be huge.

Totally agree. That's exactly what I've done with my nMP. Haven't spent any more money but have the option of adding more RAM later on.

best thing, i've felt, would be to split the OWC kit with someone who wants to go to 2x16.

each person can return their 12GB, so $150 back...and then you each pay $430 (net $355 for 16).

you just have to find someone to split it with.

returns for one of the people could be a bit more of a hassle, but one is no worse off than with crucial (i hear the returns can take a week or 2 and not sure if they advance ship).

This looks like the same part that you ordered:

http://www.provantage.com/crucial-technology-ct16g3r186dm~7CIAL76H.htm

But it would be $723.04 before shipping (and tax, if any). Wondering if I should order from them...

Yep. Add another $20 to match Amazon's free 2-day shipping and you're saving $60. (Ground shipping is ~$10.)

Not sure of Provantage's policies, but I liked the fast shipping and free returns (e.g., if I decide to keep only 2x16...or if I return my nMP :)).

PS I did confirm the Crucial part # and it is the same one.

Has anyone tried DMS (Data Memory Systems) RAM?

http://www.datamemorysystems.com/ap...7ghz-md878ll/a-cto-late-2013-memory-upgrades/

They have 1x16GB for $179 or 4x16 for $716 with no tax and free shipping. They seem to have a (theoretically) better lifetime warranty than Crucial with advanced replacements.

I did a little research on them and they seem like a good company (27 years selling Apple RAM, A+ BBB rating, etc.), but there doesn't seem to be many (at least based on unscientific google searches!) who have purchased from them. The only glowing user recommendation I could find was from Grant Bennet-Alder West over at the Apple Mac Pro Discussion forum.

The main debate seems to be between Crucial and OWC, but what about DMS? I'm leaning toward giving them a try. But has anyone heard of them or used RAM from them?

Still waiting for my nMP to be shipped to me sometime this month...and I have time to deliberate over what are essentially peanuts (OWC vs. Crucial vs. DMS vs etc.) in comparison to the price of the Pro.

Time for me to finally post. This thread has been definitely been awesome to look at. Obviously apple was not ready to produce however many orders they received. Im going to assume they received a larger number then they were expected / were set up for. One thing I have noticed with the launch of the nMP is that I haven't seen the usual "OMG IT FAILED" threads on the apple discussion forums, here, or anywhere else on the internet. That proves to me that the QC in texas is actual real QC and not foxconn. Don't get me wrong, Im pretty sure most of us would rather have our mac pro right away then wait this long, but at the same time, Ive seen apple products come out of china / foxconn and all of the issues versus the nMP which I have to say, has seen no substantial "this is broken" threads on the internet.

So, Im glad apple brought manufacturing or assembly to the US. Its one step. We all know its never going to truly be made in the US cause all of the silicon comes from taiwan, china, etc. Silica is better farmed in other countries but the US. Our sand sucks here and most of it is located in Nevada :p. Let the aliens make crop circles in it around area 51, lets not use that for silicon that will power our computers.

Anyway, we(the company i work for) ordered 3 12core mac pros on launch day. Order was put in by the business team that morning and the confirmation was received by noon. We were put in the "ships in February" batch. So I didn't check the order until saturday and saw apple care was processing and monday it was completed. I was hoping this was sign the computers would ship but nothing! I am now checking once a day in the morning and thats it. One of these machines will be used in the server room, so im a very excited IT guy. Everything for the machine has been ordered and is ready to go.

I can't wait till they ship. I see 12 cores have taken the longest to ship I also know this is intels first single 12 core chip and they are having manufacturing issues. I mean its 12 physical cores on one die and also has hyper threading.

Specs of the machines ordered

1 x 12c/12gb/256gb/d300 - Server. Have 64gbs to upgrade. Storage will be fibre.
2 x 12c/12gb/256gb/d700 - Workstation / multi user machines. Will have usb3 or thunderbolt storage.

I will add myself to the spreadsheet soon.

Anyone else in the February batch that ordered a 12c? I see no one on the spreadsheet unless im blind

looks pretty good in terms of warranty support. if you ordered via next day air they ship replacements to you via next day air, and it says they do advance replacements.

with crucial it sounds like one pretty much has to return the product (at one's own expense) and then they get something new back to you. less than ideal. they also mention that most returned RAM is not actually defective.

in practice, i do not know how any of the 3 companies honor warranty returns.

I've tried every combination I can think of but no luck. However, the charge on my credit card finally turned into an actual transaction in the last couple of hours so they've just taken the money. Maybe that means it hadn't actually shipped till now, in which case tracking details may appear on the order page soon, or the UPS site might start to recognise the shipping reference like it did for yours. At least I have something positive to hold onto for a while! :D

Though it does seem odd that it's taken more than three days to get this far since it changed to "shipped"...

not to worry. mine changed to 'shipped' on 1/31 or early 2/1 and did not register with UPS until monday 2/3. not uncommon for a shipping # to be generated but not show up in tracking info until UPS physically have it in their possession.

in fact, I've have a few cases (fedex and ups) where there was no tracking info until it was more than 1/2-way here (items shipped from apple). that was more bizarre.

12/19 around 7:00 AM -- one of the first February shipping dates.

Another slow day? I wonder how many nMP's they're making on a typical day. Does anyone have any insight into whether the stock units are shipping faster? After all, they are supposed to be "stock," right? I am curious because I basically ordered a stock unit with just the d700 upgrade. Maybe it is not even worth trying to find a method in the madness! This 41 day wait is now officially driving me crazy!

LOL. You do realize they make 1000x-100000x more units for every other product right? The quantities of nMPs made are so small, that the QC is probably identical on average.

I didn't buy a nMP because it was made in the US. I don't care where it's made. I just care that it works and it's worth $6k.
