Gah!
I have a 30" ACD which I
wanted to use with the nMP whenever Apple gets it here... but as I wrote elsewhere before, I keep hearing bad things about those adapters. I'm starting to think I should just forget about using my 30" screen with the nMP... although that makes me sad.
Apple just needs to release a matte 32" 4K display already.
I was all ready to order a 27" Thunderbolt display today, but I've really spent enough on equipment recently and need to wait (especially as those Thunderbolt screens haven't been updated for ages and some kind of update and/or 4K display from Apple is bound to happen at some point).
Apple are sending me a replacement adapter. I hope it arrives tomorrow, but should be a day or two according to the person I spoke to. They don't want the old one back so they've been pretty helpful about it. Can't grumble.
The support person I spoke to said he wasn't aware of problems with the Dual Link adapter although I've read the same comments as you, so I'm not convinced. Mine lasted less than a week.
I'll give it another go and if this one dies then I'll revert to plan B. Hopefully by then either Apple will have updated the ACD or released an affordable 4K version (yeah, right). It'll also give the bank balance a bit of time to recover from the nMP purchase (no regrets about that, though!!!)

AJClayton, FWIW, I surrendered to Photoshop and Lightroom CC last September when Adobe announced the US$9.95/month deal. I have no regrets at this point. I keep PSCS6 installed and updated just in case.
Now if I could just get the nMP delivered and try out Photoshop on it. My old MP 3,1 is gasping a bit.
That's interesting. I saw that offer and was tempted too. I couldn't help feeling that if I'd gone for it, I'd think it was too much money when it goes up to the full rate after 12 months (which is what happened to me with the full CC).
As I said previously, I'm not at all set in my ways about this. I'm sure you've done the right thing and I could very well end up doing something similar if my experiments with Pixelmator don't work out.

Ive narrowed my choices down to a single 27" (desk configuration doesnt really work for dual monitors) and its either a refurb dell U2713H (£419) or the viewsonic VP2772 (£630 ish)
Just cant decide if i like the idea of a refurb with 1yr RTB or new with a 3yr, plus will the 4k monitors come down in price rapidly or not? if so then dell seems the way as a stop gap but then im not sure i can justify another toy when they do drop
It's a difficult one, that's for sure. I think I remember reading somewhere that not all 4K displays are equal and a cheap one may be cheap for a good reason - but don't quote me on that I can't for the life of me remember where I read it.
Whatever happens, 4K has got to be the "next big thing" and is bound to drop in price rapidly once it gets some traction. Finding a cheaper way to go for now is probably a good idea. Then wait until 4K settles down a bit (and our respective bank balances recover) before dipping toes in that particular water. I'm going to try a new adapter for my 30" ACD and see if I can eek out a bit more life from it until that happens.
