Guess what - my replacement mini display port to Dual Link adapter arrived today (well done to Apple support for getting it to me in under 24 hours) however IT DOESN'T WORK EITHER!

I'm sure it's the cable both times as I tried it on both my nMP and also my MacBook Pro with the same result. I have a standard mini display port to DVI adapter and that works fine on both computers, plus the 30" works fine when plugged in via DVI to my old Mac Pro. That only leaves the adapter that can be at fault.

I'm waiting for a call back from the guy at Apple I spoke to yesterday. Looks like I may be buying a Thunderbolt display after all.

Oh no! thats frustrating. Cant pick up a cheaper monitor for now with Display port built in? rather than the expense (and soon to be replaced TB display) TB Display?

judging by the spreadsheet not much is happening....

A few of us had charges to our bank accounts in the last day or two, but still have not received shipping notification.

Hoping we get it soon. I don't know how long it takes to show up once you get the charge.

Just to cover all the bases, are you sure it's getting adequate power to the USB connector on the adapter?

Warning: Venting Below!

It's so disheartening to see that people who ordered hours after the nMP went on sale, almost 2 months ago, have not received their nMPs yet.

Apple first promised 2013, then Fall, then December, for mere hours it was January, and then February. We saw in late January that supply had made no progress on meeting demand, and just today, as new orders now ship in April, it suggests that supply/demand projections were probably worse than they originally thought. That photo Tim Cook tweeted in December of Mac Pros flying off the assembly lines was definitely misleading, as are nearly all of their estimates. Whenever I read "late 2013" nMP, I laugh.

Couldn't they have been more transparent and realistic about the process and kept us updated on their internal estimates/figures? What exactly do they have to lose by giving us this information? We already know that supply is not meeting demand and suspect they occasionally run out of certain configuration parts which creates the "lottery" process we have now. This last part gives some people the sense that Apple is letting people "cut in line." Isn't it just plain old good customer service to keep your waiting buyers as informed as possible?

This is not the iPhone, and it's not Apple's most lucrative product category, which is why it is that much more important. This is their most "boutique" item, and their customers are primarily professionals and semi-professionals. This nMP is for businesses that count on the promise from companies that when they say things will be delivered at a certain time, they are done at a certain time.

Sure, there are companies like Blackmagic Design that I absolutely do not trust because of past experiences where they blow past estimates. That Blackmagic Production Camera that was promised (yes, promised) to be released last Fall? I didn't swallow that for a moment, as they have never been within months of meeting any shipping estimates (even as they once promised "within weeks" and it still is on pre-order at B&H!). With that information, rather than waiting, I bought another camera.

But this is Apple. They have higher expectations and they should know it. If I had known that 2013 or Fall really meant February 2014, I think I would have gone ahead and purchased a maxed out iMac long ago.

Right now I am too invested in the waiting game to back out now. Reading this thread has been therapeutic, but why hasn't Apple been trying to connect with waiting buyers (especially those that have seen others "cut in line") and foster greater transparency? The argument that it's not the Apple's bread and butter doesn't make sense. This company, if it were a country, would have a higher GDP than Sweden, Argentina, Poland, Belgium and many other countries. They can afford better customer service.

Even if it doesn't necessarily make the Texans work faster, it at least would create the sense that buyer, seller, and manufacturer are on the same page (especially as the seller and manufacturer are the same). I would understand better every single one of these issues that Apple is having if they were more explicit about them. I have resigned myself to the wait (and need it more than ever now!), but I think they've botched this launch.

Just to cover all the bases, are you sure it's getting adequate power to the USB connector on the adapter?

Thanks for the suggestion. I pulled all the plugs out (including all my USB leads) and plugged them all back in again and this time it worked. I definitely had all the leads plugged in when I tried it earlier as I was aware that it needs USB power, however your suggestion made me think having another go was worth a shot.

Just to be sure I'm not going crazy, I tried my old adapter again and that one is most definitely toast!

Really baffles me.

I remain unconvinced about the adapter, although your positive experience (and my adapters change of heart) has made me decide to stick with it for a while longer.

That was weird...

AJ - I wish you would buy one of these and let us know if it works...

Called Apple at 9 AM PST, the nice lady said the card was charged today and got the next day shipping upgrade. I didn't really had to nag or anything, just said in the initial statement I ordered in the 19, wanted to get a better status update than what the web was giving and that I needed the mac for work, she really offered it very proactively after checking the order status. :D

If anyone else remaining hasn't called, definitely suggest you just call and speak to an operator when its near your month, I think it might be their general policy now to upgrade anyone that call to next day shipping.

StarTech USB 3.0/eSATA Dual 3.5” SATA III Hard Drive External RAID

I don't have my nMacPro yet and am wondering if anyone has tried the StarTech.com USB 3.0/eSATA Dual 3.5” SATA III Hard Drive External RAID Enclosure w/ UASP with a USB 3 connection in RAID 0 (striped mode)? I can only test it with USB 2 on my current MacPro 1,1 and it, per their specs, uses a non-UASP driver and the performance isn't even as good as a single drive. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't used that, so this may not be relevant, but I am using a Sans Digital TR4UT+ with USB3 on a Mac Mini. I'm not using its hardware RAID--just JBOD--but it is giving better-than-USB2 bandwidth off a single 7200RPM drive. I may get another Sans Digital chassis for the nMP.

Walked into the Apple Store today and took a pic of this beauty

I've been away spending some quality time with my new baby, er... Mac Pro. To all those suffering through the wait, it is so worth it! I'm moving on from a MBP (first unibody model) and working in Lightroom and Photoshop is like a brand new experience. It literally cut hours from my workflow on my first two shoots working with the new machine.

So don't give up hope!

Great news Woof! and thanks for the feedback. Cant wait myself as using Lightroom and Photoshop heavily these days

Confirmed that Apple is offering free upgrades to expedited, next day shipping.....when the order is finally ready. I did not have to request the upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestion to call Apple for a status update iizmoo!

Ordered on December 20, 2013

3.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5 processor
12GB 1866MHz DDR3 ECC memory
Dual AMD FirePro D300
256GB PCIe-based flash storage1

My order still says "Available to ship February."

Operator informed me that my status could "change in mere hours"...........so nothing like encouraging me to sit on the Apple Store site obsessively.

at this rate my dec 26 order, according to some weird math in my head, I'm looking at february 20s to start shipment :( more than likely later 20s then earlier :(

My card was authorized last Saturday, Sept 8. That hold is now gone. I think that's just terrible of Apple to tease us that way.

That's a bummer. Mine was authorized Sunday night, so, unless I get a shipping notice today, I'm guessing my charge will come off tomorrow as well. :(

well.. just called customer service to see if i would be offered overnight shipping. she was very nice and looked at my order, but did not offer me any bump up in my shipping. :(

i am having it shipped to an Apple store. so, quite possibly, this is already the case. (overnight shipping, that is)
