My feeling is that those of us who ordered from B&H need to work together to get the problem elevated to a higher level of urgency there. Because we've seen people who have ordered after us receive their models before ours and because many of us have pre-paid for our orders, we should be getting some actual attention from their customer service reps. Everyone I've talked to has been very nice and polite but completely clueless (most of them didn't even know that this was a new product or anything about the shortage, much less about anyone else who ordered one from their store). Is there something we can do collectively to send a message to higher management and get them on this?

After speaking with an Apple rep, they confirmed that B&H is doing everything they can within their power to represent their customers (i.e. placing the orders immediately to Apple, following up on behalf on the client, trying to expedite the situation, etc...) and essential the rep said this all falls on Apple. Apologies to B&H as I was pretty upset to have it delayed again. According to the Apple rep, Apple simply prefers to take care of those orders that have been placed through Apple.com first while third party resellers tend to get second or third priority regardless of purchase date. :( :apple:

This is pretty disappointing. It would be one thing if B&H was mass-ordering the units, but if they're placing individual orders for individual paying customers, then apple really ought to fulfill orders in the sequence they're received.

So... how do we give apple a piece of our mind and get them to treat us as equal customers...?

About the only thing I can think of is to email Tim Cook (tcook@apple.com) and see if that helps bring attention to the matter a little more. That seems to have helped a couple of people in the past. The good news is that it does seem Apple is catching up with demand so I am hoping this past shipment delay for April 25 will be the last.

Even if the April 25 deadline is met, that means they literally just kept pushing third party orders to the back of the line until they caught up with current orders. That would be a pretty petty and crappy thing for Apple to do to resellers who sell their products to thousands every day.

I'll email Tim. Everyone else should do the same :p

Henry,
I get that Apple's going to ship when Apple's going to ship, and you guys don't have any control over that. But that doesn't diminish my frustration with B&H. If my business provides a service for a customer and I rely on a third party to help provide that service, it's still my reputation on the line when the third party doesn't deliver.

At no point in the more than two months since I ordered have I once gotten any indication that B&H had my back. The last time I called to check the status (after yet another delay), I was told that five days prior Apple had said there was no ETA. When I asked about checking again since it'd been five days, the agent audibly sighed and told me he didn't want to check because it'd only been five days. Really?

You guys decided to sell these and you guys decided to go ahead and take my $5k months before anything was going to ship. Fine, but if you're going to take my money instead of just telling me to buy from Apple then you're also buying the hassle of me being your customer and not just Apples. You're buying the responsibility of helping me out when things don't go the way they're supposed to. You guys are clearly getting short-shifted by Apple. I've certainly never gotten any indication from anyone that I've ever talked to at B&H that they were concerned about that or were trying to do anything to advocate on my behalf.

We sit here and see Apple proactively email or call their customers when the promised delivery dates slipped. Never got a call from B&H to that effect, just an annoyed sigh when I call to check. We see Apple offer free overnight shipping upgrades and free accessories to their customers for their delays and hassles. No such offers from B&H for their customers.

You guys can't control when Apple ships, but you can step up the plate and do what's within your power to do, the same way Apple has for their direct customers. In my opinion that's the responsibility you took on when you decided to take my $5k.

Seriously? :O What nMP config did you order and are you US / EU? :D

US order
CTO: 6 core, 16GB, D700, 1TB SSD
I am as surprised as anyone here and am waiting until I see the tracking number come up on Fedex. My CC was definitely charged only today.
I agree, a little suspicious...

This is really criminal for those who ordered in January and haven't received any word. I'd be pissed if I was B&H as well.

Very happy for you, though, sir!

I've decided I'm not going to wait anymore. My local Apple store has one Quad-core nMP attached to a TB monitor on display. Tomorrow I am going to bring my externals with me and set up shop at the store. I plan on using this system until my nMP arrives. I'll do my best to look like I'm just enamored with it but really I'll be getting loads of work done. The tricky part will be asking one of the geniuses if they can retrieve my prints from the back of the house without drawing suspicion. When other customers ask me if they can try it, I'll tell them, "I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait three months!". :D

Im still waiting on mine like everyone else here. 3 more days then its April!!!!

I know the Mac Pro is still brand new, but since launch its already 100 days now, aren't you guys worry apple may update the chipset in these Mac Pros this June or September?
I mean the Mac Pro was announced LAST June, and the Intel chips announced in September 2013...
how fast do intel/apple update them?
or that normally don't happen this fast?

Thanks.

Well said, popechild. For me, it just doesn't make sense that brand new orders placed today are advertised to be shipped in April or early May, and, if I'm lucky, the order I placed 10 weeks ago in mid-January might be shipped at the same time...

I did email Mr. Cook for what its worth but I feel bad wasting his valuable time. The other thing is that I somehow feel "dirty" by not ordering directly from Apple...

Please move assembly operations back to Asia.

Their union is probably telling them in their break room to not make so many Mac Pros in a day because they need to get paid more =P

This morning I got tired of waiting for my 6 core/16GB/512GB/D300 model that I ordered on January 9th. I called Adorama this morning, and they still have no ETA from Apple. Decided to cancel the order and just buy a 6 core stock model instead.

I'll miss the extra size of the SSD, but will probably enjoy having the slightly faster D500 GPUs. With OWC working on upgrade options for the SSD, I'll probably swap out for a bigger drive later.

The best part is it arrives on Tuesday… Just wish I would have done this over a month ago. Good luck to everyone else waiting on here.

There's no reason to feel "dirty" for ordering from an established retailer like B&H. Many people ordered from them because they have a history with the company who has a top notch reputation and sells merchandise for a whole range of professions beyond just computers. They also offered promotions that Apple doesn't match. The crime here is that Apple is giving preferential treatment to customers. I understand the intent may be to favor individuals over retailers, but at this point it's punishing people unfairly.

Why did anyone bother buying from a third party retailer? Were the prices better, or did you just want someone in between you and the manufacturer?

I personally did for a number of reasons. I'm currently on a job in California and need it delivered to me here. B&H does not charge sales tax in California like Apple does (on a large order like this that's hundreds of dollars). B&H also offered a promotion that gave me something like $60 off and I ordered the 64 gig OWC RAM upgrade with free installation (I could install it myself, but the ram came with free installation so why not?). Overall it just made more sense financially. I also foolishly thought Apple might actually prefer to fill some of its third party orders more quickly, as they order from Apple in such higher numbers. My gamble has not paid off. At the very least I figured it didn't make a lot of difference, and why not support another retailer who I've had good experiences with in the past?
