Hi all!

My 15" MacBook Pro arrived after just 4 days! Initially the estimated time of arrival was 29th April to 4th May. And it's just 26th April and it's already here! I'm so excited as this is my first ever laptop and Mac!

:)

Well went to the Apple Store Chadstone today to check out the various laptops there and decide if I wanted to go 13" (Portability), or 15" (Productivity).

Having previously owned a 15" MBP I started first with the 13". To me, this looked extremely portable, good solid design (Although for some reason I was more biased to the polycarbonate design than the alu), good feel to it and plenty of screen real estate for a small screen.

Unfortunately, it was at that point the glare coming off the glossy screen really began to irritate me. I couldnt focus on the screen, to me all those extra 'popping' colours were lost in the reflections bouncing off the display. Now, I don't know if it was all the comments coming off the forums...Or simply the fact that when I moved slightly to the left and gazed eyes on the 15" Anti Glare display that I was completely sold...

5 more subsequent minutes of staring at the matte screen in utter amazement, I handed over the credit card for the bigger brother. To me, the extra bulk of the 15" was a minor tradeoff for such a stunning screen, with better screen real estate and blazingly fast processor.

As others have said, do yourselves a favour and get down to the store to see one. Even if you are comfortable with a gloss screen. I've seen many iMacs in the home and these are often in lounge rooms or bedrooms, often used in mornings and late evenings and often in dimly lit environments. With the MacBook Pro Anti-Glare displays; outdoors, caffé's or brightly lit offices or workplaces will be a pleasure to work in.

Sorry for my rant, but just my .02c on why I made the switch from Glossy to Matte.

The other thing to realize is that with the 15" AG screen, since there's no glass, it weighs only 0.5 lbs more than the 13" model. Its footprint is indeed larger, but the weight is only slightly more.

How long time did it take for you guys to get your 13" MB's?

Im going to order the 13" 2.4GHz basemodel, with only a Minidisplay -> DVI as a addon.

With the fast shipping, there should be no problem having it before 5 May right? (Got a flight to catch at the 6th)

(In US)

Btw, how are they sent? UPS and you have to be there when it arrives or how does it work?

Can you pick up that adaptor somewhere else? Adding those adaptors is going to increase the shipping time since it'll be a custom order. The stock configuration would ship within 24 hours, but adding the adaptor makes it ship in "2-4 business days".

My order that was scheduled to ship in 5-7 business days shipped on the 6th of those business days. If you're pressed for time I'd just pick up that adaptor somewhere else.

I think Apple uses both UPS and FedEx. Mine is coming FedEx. Either way, someone has to sign for it or they won't deliver it.

I picked up my first Mac yesterday - 15" i7 hi-res anti-glare. I originally wanted the 17" but I decided my eyes couldn't cope with the subtle difference in pixels per inch. I'm not yet convinced my eyes will be able to cope with the 15" hi-res when tired, but I really didn't want the glossy screen so I had no other options. I wanted the 512Mb gfx memory. *shakes fist at Apple*

Very first labtop/MBP but with glossy screen.... mistake?

I've ordered my 15" i7 8gb 7200rpm MBP on 14th. It will be my very first laptop ever. Took me a while to take the decision to buy such an expensive PC, but following this forum the last couple of months, I think it is a good decision. I did not order the anti-glare screen however, went for the hi-res glossy one. Did I make a big mistake here?
I saw (an older) MBP from a friend and and had no problems with the glossy screen, but as everyone bought the anti-glare I'm afraid I made a mistake after all. Cannot make a new order, hope to receive mine this week (ordered at Apple store). Guess I was just so overwhelmed ordering the MBP that I just did not think of the anti-glare :(

Not everyone bought the antiglare. I mean, I did, but I can't stand glossy screens. If the other glossy screen didn't bother you then it shouldn't be an issue. Even if it is you can send it back for an exchange. You've got 14 days to make that decision, but you may get charged a 10% restocking fee if you end up going that route.

Thanks for that answer, didn't realise that they would make it a custom order because of a little adaptor.

Ordered mine this weekend. 15" hi-res antiglare. Can't wait for it to arrive. Also picked up a RAM upgrade and a hard drive upgrade from a third party.

Now the part I'm not looking forward to: spending the same amount over again on software.

What now?

I just got a new 13" over the weekend and it is my first mac :) I am so excited and from the little time that I've spent on it, I love it! Any suggestions on any extras I should download or buy? Any cool widgets or plug-ins that people find particularly useful?

Another morning, another Not Yet Shipped screen.

*punches head through cubicle wall*

I got my high-end 15" MBP on Friday afternoon, and I locked myself in my house the entire weekend to play with my new love. I absolutely love it. My first Mac, and I'm really looking forward to finally being able to participate in other threads rather than just reading them.

Brand New 13" MBP

Just bought my new 13" MBP 2.4Ghz C2D at Dixons in Gatwick airport for £850 (inc VAT). It replaces my old 13" white MB end-2006 model (1.83Ghz).

Who cares about core i3, this new model is fantastic and QUICK!

:/

I ordered my 2.66 ghz, hi-res glossy, 500 gb 7200 rpm, on April 17th in the afternoon. It's still "Not Yet Shipped," and the delivery estimate is April 27-May 3. Should I be concerned?

I'm sitting in front of this 7 year old iBook G3, with a tab open.
Secure checkout from Google.

Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 GHz, free copy of Parallels 5.0

Total: $1,159.00

I'm giving myself like half an hour before I click "place order", just in case I made a mistake or something. Never bought anything this expensive before.

I'm excited.

What deal did I miss?

From B&H Photo. I think the price and all is the same at MacMall, too.

EDIT: hey, look at that, it's 20$ cheaper there. I just saved 20$! :D And there's a free keyboard, too, which will be useful when I get an external display and mouse.

This is why it was smart of me to wait half an hour before I bought it.

EDIT 2: Damn, I have to pay sales tax at MacMall. Not worth it, then. Back to B&H.

EDIT 3: Bought it! Technically, my first computer that I own myself. Estimated date of arrival: May 5th. Awesome.

By the way, MacMall only had tax because I'm in California. If you're not, it's probably one of the best deals out there, especially if you want a printer/Parallels/a nice looking Bluetooth keyboard.

YEAH i got my new mbp 13in 2.66 Hz 320G

pop in the Snow leopard disk in Windows 7 and install the drivers from the CD. that will do the trick

I canceled my order because it was taking too long to ship. :(

I was going to pick it up at local 24hr apple store but they sold out the 15 inch anti-glare. :(

Now, im just going to wait a month to get it, when they start the free ipod touch back to school promo. ;):D
