Okay, I finally took the plunge.

My 2006 MacBook 1.83GHz Core Duo has been working semi-faithfully for over 4 years. It's had 3 replaced top cases (2 yellowing, 1 chipped off edges), 2 replaced hard drives, and 1 replaced screen. Now it's 2010 and time to move away from the cheap cracking plastic.

I decided to go with the 15" i7. While I love the 13" form factor, the Core2Duo was the deal breaker.

I ordered mine through Amazon. $2099 with no tax or shipping, plus $100 off from Amazon gift certificates I had, brought this down to $1999. This will easily last me for another 4 years, so I can justify the cost of $500/year.

Based on GeekBench, the new laptop should be around 170% faster than my Rev.A MB. I'll find out on Monday! The wait is killing me...
I think you have made a good choice. For anyone who doesn't absolutely have to have the compact size and lighter weight of the 13 inch MBP, the i7 15 or 17 inch should, as you have observed, provide far more computing power than the C2D 13 inch.

Just got my i7 15 inch Macbook pro with the Hi-res screen and 7200rpm 500gb hard drive :)

That is exactly what I ordered, love to know your thoughts.

This is my first Mac ever, excited and nervous too.

Does anyone know if the scheduled delivery date is always / usually accurate? Mine is scheduled to arrive Thurs, June 10th, and as luck will have it, I'll be out of town Thurs - Sun. :( I am hoping there have been instances of receiving a day early. Wish now I would have paid for expedited shipping.

bjsbuds, I will let you know, mine is expected on Thursday as well, regretting my customisation, could have put a new HDD in myself and had it last week.

I am constantly refreshing the courier site hoping to see it touch down in Sydney.

Hi all,
I live in Hong Kong and I've ordered my first MBP 15" on thursday night. Guess who showed up this early monday morning at the door : TNT guy with the baby. And I had to go to work without opening it. And I finish work at 5pm, so it's gonna be a loooong day.

Just got my 13" mbp 6 days ago

I got the 13" 2.4ghz,the processor isn't too much slower than the 2.53ghz and not much hard drive difference same graphics so i didn't want to spend $300 just to get a slightly faster processor,i had bought the new unibody macbook but decided to exchange it to get the pro instead,i've had mbp's in the past that was my first time to get a regular macbook it just scratched way to easily. But anyways i Love my new 13" mbp! it is super fast and definitely worth the extra $200 over the regular macbook:D

Picked up the new 15" MacBook Pro last Tuesday! Wasn't in much luck as in 24 hours I went through four MacBook Pro's, my first three units all had warped lids and two of the units were also marked/scratched! Finally got around to setting up the new one this morning and its fantastic. Coming from a 2007 2.0GHz White MacBook, the difference is incredible, everything from the power, screen quality, graphics and features, not to mention the build quality is outstanding (That couldn't be said for the three prior units!).

For anyone stuck choosing between the 13" & 15", I'd fully recommend the 15" (Coming from a 13" myself). The screen size is perfect and there extra weight? Well you can barely notice a few extra pounds! Plus the i5 processor is superb!

Haven't used this machine too its fullest but just using Xcode and Photoshop for an hour this morning, was perhaps the best experience I've ever had!

Long time lurker, first time poster. I bought a 27" i5 iMac last December, been so impressed with it that I bought a 15" i7 Macbook Pro with Anti Glare screen over the weekend. Luckily for me, my wife works at one of the local universities, so we got a cheeky bit of discount off both machines.

So far, I've been blown away by the build quality, screen quality & trackpad. It makes my £400 Toshiba laptop look like cheap toy, even though its been pretty reliable, the chassis was falling to bits after 2 years of light use.

Had a couple of issues, the superdrive doesn't always read discs, so I have to eject them & then re-insert them. The edge of the unibody, where your wrists rest, is quite sharp - not a big deal really. I'll keep an eye on the drive.

Long time lurker. I just ordered my first mac ever! Raised on PCs, last apple comupter I used extensively was an Apple //e in 6th & 7th grade. I'm nervous and excited. Macbook Pro 13" and a Airport Extreme Base Station. Hope they are worth the price. (and hope Mr. Jobs doesnt update the MacBook Pro or the Base station this week at WWDC:p)

I just ordered a Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 GHz 250 GB, AppleCare, and an Ipod touch 32 gb today! Weird thing is that the tracking# states it will be delivered tomorrow. I didn't pay for faster shipping but has anyone ever gotten it delivered in one day? After three years using a white macbook 13" I'm so excited to finally own a pro!

Mine arrived this morning, it said 10th as expected from Apple, I called TNT yesterday and they said Wednesday is most likely.

And it hit my hot little (well, huge) hands at 8:55 am can't wait to get it home and play with it and learn the ins and outs of OSX.

Ordered the refurbished 15'' with the i5 from the Apple online store today :D Not supposed to be here till next week, but I realllllyyyy hope it arrives earlier :DD

I was gunna buy the 13'' today, but after seeing the refurb on the Apple site I just couldnt resist.

Oh heck yeah.

I now have my new MBP 15" i7. WOW. This thing absolutely blows away my old rev.A MacBook. Everything about this computer is superior... build quality (no more cracked plastic edges!), screen (no more flickering CCFL backlight!), battery, speakers, you name it. I am *very* happy with this purchase. My only regret is not buying one sooner.

Ran benchmarks this morning, and it is indeed about 170% faster according to GeekBench. Xbench was all over the place (as usual), and it doesn't run in 64-bit, so I don't really trust its results saying it was only about 100% faster. And that was after disabling the hard drive tests, since both computers run similar drives.

The hardest part was waiting the 6+ hours last night for all my data to get transferred over using Migration Assistant. And that was using gigabit... I couldn't even imagine FW400!

If you've been sitting on the sidelines waiting to replace your 4+ year old MacBook or especially an iBook/PowerBook... I would strongly suggest upgrading. I can't imagine anyone regretting this purchase.

15" w/ i7 (and a question)

Just ordered:
15: Hi-Res antiglare, i7, 4gb RAM, 500gb @7200, aperture preinstalled, and a free iPod

I have been waiting for this one for ever, thank you graduation!!

question, what is the best method for me to do data transfer? Migration assistant over fw 400 (thats the best my old imac g5 has) or ethernet? A different method?

thanks

My MacBook pro I ordered online yesterday already shipped! I was expecting to see shipping origin as "shanghai" from the numerous posts in this thread.but it showed "Ontario, California" . I am in California but I have seen lots of fellow Americans in this thread get a ship from in shanghai. Is mine from Ontario because i'm in cali or because I did not customize my mac? Curious.

Yes, finally got my MBP back with no dead pixels this time. I can't wait to start playing around with it.

A built-to-order 15" i7 is on its way to me now to replace a four-year-old MacBook Pro. The order status page today says "Prepared for Shipment." This is probably been asked before, but any guesses on when it will ship and how quickly it'll get here?

Very excited....

They tend to ship it locally if it is a base build, if you change one little thing, it tends to come from Shanghai.

I ordered my MBP on May 30th, and am hoping it will arrive tomorrow! Apple's notification states I'll get it by Friday, but UPS has said I'd get it either Wednesday or Thursday... but looks like they pulled that and it's not saying anything now.

Anyway it's a 15inch i7, 7200rpm 500GB HDD, with HR Antiglare. It'll be my first Mac, and I've been waiting to get one for like 4 or 5 months! Can't wait! Hopefully there will be no defects ah.

You are one of those lucky people who happen to live near well stocked distribution center:) Enjoy it because waiting for something you want very, very much is not fun!

Just got my 13'', beautiful and all set up, still waiting for the new hardshells, tho.
