I'm in the process of purchasing a second hand MPB (2007 model, 2.33Ghz C2D) for my on-the-go work, does anyone have any recommendations what defects to look for when I'm picking it up?

Lithium-Ion batteries go bad after just a few years, so being a 2007 model it is already almost time to replace the battery, or the laptop will be much less 'on-the-go' than you think.

In my experience with laptops, the first thing to go is the battery, the second thing to go is the battery-charging mechanism. Though if the battery is on its last leg you won't know if the charging mechanism is defunct till you replace the battery.

Just to clarify, you got the 17inch MBP and 8GB iPod Touch for $1900? That's fantastic. You did not even have to go through the rebate process. I am really surprised Best Buy honored the Back to School promotion for you. Consider yourself very lucky. Enjoy your new Mac.

No, they cannot give away a itouch, so they just reduced the price another 199.00. That is how the price was 1900.

meh, mbp trackpad>magic mouse

Yeah I got the magic mouse... not my cup of tea. Use it moderately on the mbp..more on my iPad. I use an MX anywhere for my mbp.

But just ordered this baby...

I posted this in the "post your last purchase thread" but here I share it with you guys! Got it for $1900 with Extended Apple Care, and brand new and sealed too :D Should get here in a day or two!

I am FINALLY adding myself to this thread even though I own a MBP already. This is my first brand new mac (I usually buy used). This is by far the best computer I have ever owned, and my dream computer I believe!

I got the glossy screen, but I'm not sure whether I made the right choice.

It's beautiful but... well.. ugh... i don't know. :-(

Figured, I'd just put an anti-glare film on it. :-D

The antiglare film is the reason why I am upgrading. It looks horrible to my eyes, and gives me a headache sometimes when I am working at the computer a lot.

Love my 13" MB Pro...really just needed the MB but for $200 extra the Pro was the way to go...love the AL unibody, lighted keyboard, extra 2G RAM, SD slot. I had purchased the iMac G5 before but sold it soon after. Lately I had got so sick of Windows that I took over the wife's G5 iMac...then finally got my MB Pro. I am very pleased with it so far. Excellent Quality!

I just ordered my i5 2.4 Ghz 15" Macbook pro + moshi palmguard + MDP to hdmi adapter + MDP to vga adapter from Amazon. It will ship to my friend's house in USA and he will bring all those to me end of June.

Problem is Amazon is doing 3 different shipments for all those. I wish they made all ship at once. Also what happens if you are not at home when the shipment arrives? I know they try later or something but when? He has to get all of them by 25th of June. I ordered today with basic shipment(3 to 5 days). Will they arrive on time?

Amazon often lays off stuff like cabling and adapters to its partners, rather than stocking it themselves. This means you will get a separate shipment from each partner. That said, I have had uniformly good experience in my dealings with Amazon's partners. They always seem to have in stock what they say is in stock and to ship it promptly.

Darn, still hasn't shipped yet. If it doesn't ship today I won't get it till next week, and I paid extra for 2-day shipping hoping to get it by Friday :(

Darn iPhone 4 pre-orders had to start the same day as the payday I bought my Macbook Pro with!

Just got mine!

Had to go pick it up, as purolator is incompetent.

15 inch i7 with High Res Anti Glare!!!

Very nice machine. I'm really happy I got the anti-glare, the quality of the screen is fantastic, matte is the way to go, people!!!

:)

Just ordered my 15" i7 macbook last night! Although I fear that it will take a while longer, as I got the high resolution display. :(

My Macbook Pro shipped from Amazon. It says estimated delivery 22-24 June. Amazon users can you tell me do they tend to keep their promises in estimated delivery times? It should not pass 25th of june. Because i am from Turkey, i ordered it to my friend's house in U.S. He leaves his house on 26th. Any help appreciated.

Ordered the base MacBook Pro, should be shipped today. Estimated earliest delivery - tomorrow. Can't wait :).

I just picked up an 15" i7 MBP with HR AG and an awesome wi-fi Canon printer on a student discount yesterday. I decided to decline the free iPod touch. I'm not a fan of rebates that are not instant. I have an iPhone anyway.. and it's just a hassle to sell it.

First Mac ever :).

Just got my first Mac and made it the 17" i7 anti-glare

I waited quite some time for this and had collected about 8 gift cards to put towards this purchase. This is my first Mac and a learning experience so far. It was like entering a club when my co-worker found out (he has the MBP 15" pre-iX) - he started sending me emails of things to buy, download, etc. I think he was more excited for the purchase than I was!

Anyway, so I won't go into the reasons why I purchased the laptop but will say I fully intended to purchase the glossy screen. In fact, I actually thought I purchased the glossy version, went home and opened up the box only to be disappointed that it was the anti-glare version. So much for me paying attention to the receipt at the Apple Store. I was using my corporate discount so the price seemed "correct" for what I originally spec'd out online. Well, after 24 hours use, I am happy to say that I am glad I made the "mistake" of buying the anti-glare. To each his/her own whether you like glossy or AG.

Just waiting for my CS5 to show up.

Any pointers as to good websites for tips/tricks to do on my new Mac?

Ciao

AG is far superior to the glossy anyways. Glossy is bling for "consumers" AG is for the big boys who actually do work on their computer instead of doddling with iPhoto.

You wont be disappointed in the long run.

Hi,

Can someone give me advice on this.

I just called up apple wanting to buy a mpb, however she put all of these extra things in. I did not mind as I just need the basket to show my dad with the college discount. However I have read on the thread that people have said no sorry and they then give you it for free.
Can anybody tell me how I should go about this, I don't want to spend the extra money on iWork and a apple-care package. I would rather get a sleeve discounted.

Can you have a look at the basket for me and see if it is a good sale for me as well.

Thanks any help will be greatly appreciated, towards my first mac purchase.

I don't believe they would give you apple care for free (although you get the first year included with your computer). As for sleeve, don't know about that.

Just got my hi res antiglare i5. However, haven't opened it yet, because I am going to wait for my invisible shield and 160gb Intel g2 X25M ssd to come in. :D
