I got the new MBP 13". So far, I'm loving it. I have just about everything here to setup my Windows 7 side on it and I'm very excited to basically have 2 computers in one.
You use your MBP like I use mine. I have Windows 7 installed in a VMware Fusion virtual machine. I run Fusion in Unity mode so that I can run several Windows apps and several more OS X apps from the OS X desktop. If you intend to open Windows apps frequently, I recommend that you upgrade your RAM to 8Gb if you haven't done so already. You will be glad you did.

Yep, I plan on upgrading to 8GB of RAM sometime in the future, I just don't have the cash right now. I did already order a 750GB internal to replace this 250 so that I don't have to worry about hard drive space. I was stretching it thin just buying this MBP in the first place, but I don't regret it! :D

My plan is to install Windows 7 Ultimate (have it already) via bootcamp. Then, without activating anything, I will install Parallels (have it already) to point to the bootcamp partition. This seems like it would give me to most flexibility. If I feel like I need more power (especially before upgrading to 8GB RAM), then I can just restart and boot into the same partition.

Thanks for the reply. :D Having basically 2 computers in one was one of the biggest things that appealed to me.

As long as you are willing to boot back and forth between OS X and Windows in the Bootcamp partition, the stock 4Gb of RAM in your MBP should be plenty. You might even be able to get by with 4Gb in Parallels as long as you avoid having too many apps running at the same time.

That's what I figured and was somewhat hoping. I should be able to get by for a while with the 4GB of RAM at least. Thanks again for the input!! :)

Please let us know how 4Gb of RAM works with Parallels. I have learned from personal experience that 2Gb of RAM is woefully inadequate when trying to use Windows apps and OS X apps simultaneously but have had no personal experience with 4Gb. This issue is of more than passing interest to me as I am seriously considering buying a Macbook Air when and if Apple refreshes it. Unfortunately, the conventional wisdom seems to be that any upgrade would contain 4Gb or RAM at most. As you probably know, the MBA uses RAM chips soldered to the logic board, so there would no way to upgrade the RAM unless Apple radically redesigned the MBA. That, alas, is an unlikely proposition.

I will certainly do that. :) I actually went with Parallels because based on my research it seemed as though it was a little faster/more efficient with Windows 7. Whether that's true or not will remain to be seen. I will keep you posted. :)

When I first got my MBP, two and a half years ago, I agonized about whether to buy Parallels or Fusion. After doing a ton of research, I finally decided that there was little to chose from and, more or less arbitrarily, ended up buying Fusion. Truthfully, I still think that one is about as good as the other in most applications.

Just checked order status, will be here by friday!!!! :)

Just got my spanking, squeaky clean, brand new 15" 2.4Ghz, 500GB 7200rpm Core i5 with Hi-Res-Antiglare screen!! No dead or stuck pixels, it's perfect!!! I'm so glad I went for the matte screen option, it's the best CTO option available for the MBP, IMO. :D

Anyone from the UK ordered a MBP 13" from Amazon lately?

They have been up on the site at £888.25. I ordered one during this week and it should be due next week although now when I look at the product on the site it says due in stock 6th July. It still says estimated delivery 29th June for my order though.

I ordered this morning, delivery tomorrow :D

Same! Great price. Express delivery guarenteed tomorrow apparently.

How are Amazon able to do that? Their 15 inch is an even better price slash: £210.74 (14%) off at £1,288.26 compared to £1,499.00 from Apple.

Hi,
UPS delivered mine today :)
After a two week wait.
I am loving it so much, first mac so trying to learn it all.
I have a question though. My trackpad is harder to click at the top, there is more resistance. Is this normal, its not really bothering me though.

Thanks

Hey Chris,

I believe that the trackpad is harder to click on the top, and in some areas it doesn't even click (near the top of course). This is completely normal. Oh, and UPS should deliver mine today too. It reached the final station this morning, and should be 'OUT FOR DELIVERY' in a couple hours! I'm so exited. :D

Cheers,
Piehead

Just ordered!

Finishing up my last year in college and just my luck I spill some coffee on my 1st gen Macbook Pro and the entire thing is fried. Saved up enough thank goodness and just ordered a 15" Hi-res anti-glossy w/ 2.66 i7, 4GB 100MHz, and 500GB ATA drive that I eventually plan on upgrading.

Approximately 7 days after ordering - it's here! A brand new MBP 13 inch. It is soo gorgeous and is pretty zippy and fast for a C2D. I am so glad I switched to Mac. :)

My MBP 13' arrived in 3 days

Ordered online at Sun, June 27/10. Received June 30/01.
I am in Mississauga, Ontario Canada.

Amazing machine! Really like it especially backlight feature. doing first battery calibration now. Overall, very satisfy and much than my old MacBook.

MacBook Pro 15"

I just ordered a 15” 2.4GHz MBP Hi Res Glossy i5 and Parallels 5.0. I’m using my wife’s teacher discount. Financing it at 0% interest for 12 months. $1999.78. This reminds me of buying notebook PC’s 18 years ago for $2.5K. I’ll use it mainly for work. Need Parallels for work related (accounting) software we use for quoting? I’m in the professional video sales industry so I’ll also use it for demoing some products. This is my third Mac. I own a 24” iMac at home. Bought my son a 2.66GHz 15” MBP last January and now this one for me. I'll be buying a Mac Mini for my home theater next as well as the iPhone 4…. Dang I need to buy stock in Apple but its just so expensive. LOL

Long time PC user, first time Mac user.

I'm back off to University in September after dropping out 5 years ago, so I just treated myself to a 15" MBP 2.4GHz (upgraded to the hi-res glossy screen and 500GB HDD) as I get a student discount + a touch.

It should be here Monday, I really can't wait.
