Ordered 13" Macbook Pro!

I just ordered the 2.66 GHz MPB 13" (MC375LL/A) from Amazon. :D I am getting it tomorrow! I can't wait. I've gone through two HP laptops since 2007. I keep hearing all the good things about the sturdy build quality of Apple notebooks.

I'm so excited to become part of the Apple experience and to get away from the Windows OS. :apple:

Cool! I ordered the 13" as well and my excitement is building. Glad you are enjoying your new MBP.

Welcome to the Mac family, you won't regret joining it. OS X is enough different from Windows that there is a little learning curve you have to climb to become truly comfortable in the new OS. OS X is very user friendly, though, so you will be able to do virtually anything you want to do from the start. Don't forget, too, that your new MBP comes with 90 days free telephone support. The phone support staff is uniformly pretty good and should be able to help you get past any obstacles you encounter.

Why did you decide to buy the 2.66Ghz MBP? Most customers seem to be buying the base model 2.4Ghz. Is there something you are planning to do that makes the slightly faster chip and larger hard drive worth the extra cost?

New 13"

I ended up buying the 13" MBP 2.4GHz. I had ordered the 15" but ... woke up the next morning and realized that I'm really just going to use it for the most part when I travel for business and I'm not going to edit video with it and do (like my son does on his 15"). I bought it at the local Apple store and got the iPod Touch which I'm giving to one of my daughter. So far so good. I hooked it up Mini Port using a HDMI adapter to our HD LCD TV and streamed NetFlix movie which worked well. I tried it with my son's 2.66 MBP 15" Intal C2D and I was not able to send audio via Mini DisplayPort using my MDP to HDMI adapter like I can with the new 13" MBP. I will load Windows and Parallels to run a quoting program we use for work that only runs on Windows. I'm sure this MBP will give me years of successful use.

After salivating over the 15" MBP for a year and a half and reading these forums I have finally saved and ordered my very first MBP today at 10:45am this morning. Yes I am a Mac virgin after too many years on a steam driven desktop PC I have taken the plunge and I am waiting very impatiently. It will take a week to two weeks for delivery due to purchase method.
Wanted to share this exciting moment with others who understand the excitement building inside right now.
I would just like to say thank you to all and everyone for their advice in helping me with my purchase, I will dedicate the first switching on of the MBP to those helpful individuals. My order is as follows, I also bought a few extras as I have the money now and I am using my education discount for the first and last time. CS5 was a major saving, it only cost €400 instead of €2,000 plus:

15-inch MacBook Pro
iWork preinstalled
Accessory kit
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display
2.66GHz Intel Core i7
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
Backlit Keyboard (British) & User's Guide (English)

iPod touch 8GB

AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro/PowerBook - Auto-enroll

If you want to have your Windows apps be as convenient to load and as readily accesible as your OS X apps are, the best money you could ever spend would be to upgrade your 13 inch MBP's RAM to 8Gb. I run Windows 7 under VMware Fusion in Unity mode and leave Quicken for Windows open on my desktop with a bunch of OS X apps, which I also routinely leave open. both Fusion and Parallels are memory hogs so if you plan to use either regularly lots or RAM is a necessity.

Thank you! :)

I am going to be doing very basic video editing (5 min. vlogs) here and there. Nothing major, so I figured I'd get a faster processor since Amazon had it on sale for around $1,410.00. Plus, I had a $100.00 gift card. :D

I played with the 13" and 15" twice at Best Buy and absolutely love how light and portable the 13" is. I download music and videos so I decided a bigger HDD would suite me well too.

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I look forward to being part of the community. :apple:

Have you tried the Mac version of Quicken. We use it at home on my 24" iMac and are (kind of) happy with it. I wish it would sort while reconciling.

MBP 15: i7, 8GB, hires AG, OWC Mercury Extreme 240GB SSD

Just got my new toy yesterday. I love it! Geekbench score of 6503!!!! I went back and forth with the decision of hires ag or not but am very happy I went with hires! My eye sight isn't perfect, but I have no problem with seeing text and menu bars.

Lastly, these OWC SSD drives are amazing! 258MB/s writes and 278MB/s reads!!!!!

My only gripe, don't call something "Pro" and ship it stock with a 5400rpm hard drive.

On getting a new MBP ...?

Hello,

I know the answer is here somewhere and I did a search, but couldn't trace the answer to my question...

What treatment, if any, should one give a new MBP?

I'm thinking of battery charging, SSD treatment, etc.

Any do's or don'ts?

===

Somewhat related... If you have opted for One to One, what sort of things could one ask of the Apple guru? I'm referring to things like deleting files, utilities that one will never use.

===

It could well be that there's no need to do anything!

Many thanks

Thanks for the links up there.

Just received my new MBP - 15" glossy high res, i7, 4GB, 7200RPM.

Ordered 30 Jun, shipped on 3 Jul, given expected delivery date 15-16 Jul. Today (9 Jul) finally given tracking number - when I checked it, it was already on it's way to my door. Delivered by UPS.

A couple of things I noticed though, wouldn't mind other people's experience:
- When I opened it, I noticed that the power connector (underneath MBP) was facing up and had actually ripped through the MBP light plastic covering. There is a small scratch (3-4mm) that it left behind on the base of the MBP.
- On the top of the MBP, along the right hand edge there is a faint marking - like a graze - this is very faint though (can only be seen in certain angles).

When I got my old PowerBook it was perfect, so too my MacBook (and older macs). Have I just been lucky in the past or are they generally flawless (hence I've been unlucky this time)?

Im pretty sure you just got unlucky. First the delayed tracking number, and then that?! I would call AppleCare and see if they can do anything, but they may blame you for the scratches.

Anyways, my iPod Touch and mStand are now out for delivery, but my MacBook Pro's tracking number still shows it still in Louisville! WTF, its been there for 27 hours! My only hope is that the tracking number updates are not updating, and my computer is really on the way to my house along with my other goodies. But I wont get my hopes up...

Im worried that my MBP might be stuck in customs, and I heard that can take dayss to complete. I will be already upset if I have to wait the whole weekend...

I got my first macbook pro yesterday :) and i think i'm getting my ipod touch today. Hopefully I learn how to use my macbook before college starts.
