I just ordered a 15inch MBP i7 with 500gb 7200 rmp, 8gb of ram and hi-res anti-glare display... Im sooo excited!
Welcome to the Mac family, you won't regret joining it. OS X is enough different from Windows that there is a little learning curve you have to climb to become truly comfortable in the new OS. OS X is very user friendly, though, so you will be able to do virtually anything you want to do from the start. Don't forget, too, that your new MBP comes with 90 days free telephone support. The phone support staff is uniformly pretty good and should be able to help you get past any obstacles you encounter.I just ordered the 2.66 GHz MPB 13" (MC375LL/A) from Amazon.I am getting it tomorrow! I can't wait. I've gone through two HP laptops since 2007. I keep hearing all the good things about the sturdy build quality of Apple notebooks.
I'm so excited to become part of the Apple experience and to get away from the Windows OS.![]()
ThisHow did you change all the icons from the standard (eg square doc icons and weird folder icons in Finder)?
If you want to have your Windows apps be as convenient to load and as readily accesible as your OS X apps are, the best money you could ever spend would be to upgrade your 13 inch MBP's RAM to 8Gb. I run Windows 7 under VMware Fusion in Unity mode and leave Quicken for Windows open on my desktop with a bunch of OS X apps, which I also routinely leave open. both Fusion and Parallels are memory hogs so if you plan to use either regularly lots or RAM is a necessity.I ended up buying the 13" MBP 2.4GHz. . . . I will load Windows and Parallels to run a quoting program we use for work that only runs on Windows. I'm sure this MBP will give me years of successful use.
You forgot the link.![]()

Why did you decide to buy the 2.66Ghz MBP? Most customers seem to be buying the base model 2.4Ghz. Is there something you are planning to do that makes the slightly faster chip and larger hard drive worth the extra cost?
I think he was saying 'This' as in agreeing with you as he would also like to know.

Ah I see. I'm assuming he used candy bar since that's the only thing I know of to change icons (easily).

Sweet, thanks... Is there a list anywhere of cool lil apps like this?
After salivating over the 15" MBP for a year and a half and reading these forums I have finally saved and ordered my very first MBP today at 10:45am this morning. Yes I am a Mac virgin after too many years on a steam driven desktop PC I have taken the plunge and I am waiting very impatiently. It will take a week to two weeks for delivery due to purchase method.
Wanted to share this exciting moment with others who understand the excitement building inside right now.
I would just like to say thank you to all and everyone for their advice in helping me with my purchase, I will dedicate the first switching on of the MBP to those helpful individuals. My order is as follows, I also bought a few extras as I have the money now and I am using my education discount for the first and last time. Just got my new toy yesterday. I love it! Geekbench score of 6503!!!! I went back and forth with the decision of hires ag or not but am very happy I went with hires! My eye sight isn't perfect, but I have no problem with seeing text and menu bars.
Lastly, these OWC SSD drives are amazing! 258MB/s writes and 278MB/s reads!!!!!

Thanks for the links up there.
Just received my new MBP - 15" glossy high res, i7, 4GB, 7200RPM.
Ordered 30 Jun, shipped on 3 Jul, given expected delivery date 15-16 Jul. Today (9 Jul) finally given tracking number - when I checked it, it was already on it's way to my door. Delivered by UPS.
A couple of things I noticed though, wouldn't mind other people's experience:
- When I opened it, I noticed that the power connector (underneath MBP) was facing up and had actually ripped through the MBP light plastic covering. There is a small scratch (3-4mm) that it left behind on the base of the MBP.
- On the top of the MBP, along the right hand edge there is a faint marking - like a graze - this is very faint though (can only be seen in certain angles).
When I got my old PowerBook it was perfect, so too my MacBook (and older macs). Have I just been lucky in the past or are they generally flawless (hence I've been unlucky this time)?
