Sine I got my iPad I have found my 13" mbp to be too similar. I also wanted a larger screen and more power for games and music and I am not near an external monitor much at the moment.

For that reason I just ordered a top spec 15" mbp. It comes in at £1500 with education discount. It is a lot to spend but I hope that it will fill my needs and allow me to be more productive than before.

Cool, you have both models. What do you use them both for ?

I use the 15" as my personal laptop, since I carry it everywhere (even on the weekends). I have a very nice WaterField sleeve, for those times when I just want to pop into a Starbucks. It's so thin & light for a 15" laptop, that I sold my 13" MBP. Especially because I place a high priority on a sizable display. It's worth it to carry the extra pound or so.

The 17" is for 3D design work & my photography. They're both great really. It's simply a matter of personal preference and what one is going to use it for.

That's a great move you're making.

I migrated to a laptop as my main computer years ago for the very reason you cited. It allows you to be much more productive. It's so nice to be able to have it with you whenever you want. To not be tied down to a desk is the best.

Yes and apple are very clever for getting me to replace my 13 inch with a iPad and a new laptop lol

Can I have a link to the sleeve you use please?

A quick question for anyone who has purchased a new MBP, from the Apple store? Do they carry any upgraded models in the store? I'm looking at the 15 MBP. And would like to upgrade to the higher rez screen and 7200 hd. Would they stock something like this. Or is it going to be a special order? I'm normally a patient person, but I've been wanting an Apple Laptop for so long. That the wait my just kill me.(First Apple Computer)

They dont carry too many variations at the apple store. I think youll have to order it online to get the 7200 hd. Best way to know for sure is to call your apple store. I would say, though, that if they dont have the exact config you want, dont compromise. Order it online and wait a little longer, if your buying a computer, and an expensive one at that, it should have the exact specs u want

Well I finally got my hands on my first Mac. I have decided to go with the 13" Macbook Pro. Been using it for around 15minutes now, all I can say is that I LOVE THIS NOTEBOOK! Thanks to all of the people on the forum and the posts to help me make this decision!

Congrata bro, I ordered the same machine + 8gb ram and it literally just arrived at my door, can't wait to fire it up, pics soon :p

Changed from:
Jul 16, 2010 12:12 PM - Int'l shipment release - ANCHORAGE, AK

To:
Jul 18, 2010 12:25 PM - Arrived at FedEx location - ANCHORAGE, AK

Still says estimated arrival on Jul 20th. Can it really reach the east coast by tomorrow if its standard shipping? Or its just funky tracking information as another member mentioned earlier and it will be here on time (i hopes!)

Thanks man!

8 GB is a crapload of RAM. Can't see myself ever needing that much.

I am going to start saving for an OWC SSD so that hopefully in a year prices are cut in half. Lol.

I should probably start saving up for 8 gigs of RAM. About 6mo ago, my roommate was looking into upgrading to 8gb of RAM and it was ~$600-700 to do it. I checked yesterday, and it's $230 on newegg. Hopefully in 6mo, it'll be down to ~$100-150. Then I'll probably make the jump. 8 gigs of RAM sounds insane, but I'd much rather have a complete excess than have to manage resources.

Order a 17" i7, 7200 RPM, AG Screen and 8 GB Ram last night.

Now the waiting game begins!

Replacing a 2007 17" C2D 2.4

Ya, the ram upgrade was definitely a luxury upgrade but my day trading has been good and I am a power user so i figured why not. Couldn't justify another grand for a 512 SSD though so im waiting for a price drop as well

Arriving This Week

I bought a refurb 17" MBP that will be arriving this week, and it came with both the i7 and the anti-glare options included ($2169 not including tax). Also arriving are a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB 7200RPM/4GB SSD hybrid hard drive to swap out with the Apple factory installed 500GB/5400RPM, and a Speck case (satin black) to keep it safe. Going to keep the 4GB of RAM for now and wait a year or so to bring it up to the full 8GB after prices (hopefully) go down a bit more. Spent that money on AppleCare, instead, this year so I don't forget to buy it before the end of my first year.

I can't wait - it's replacing a 5-year-old 17" iMac G5 that finally went kaput (thanks Apple for buying the cheap capacitors).

Money is no object eh? Although you didn't spring for an SSD so maybe it is a tiny object :p

If the reference is due to Ram, my current machine (which got dropped on the job site) has 4 GB and I am running 2 VMs and am always in the Swap Files. In fact free ram right now is 231 MB. So want to give my VMs enough to stay happy.

Ram was $360 through Education Store (Wife is a teacher) and OWC had it for $274. Figured $90 for warranty under Applecare was worth it.

Just picked up a 15" i7 with the high res/anit-glare screen.....this thing is freaking sweet:D so much better than my old 13 macbook. Was going to go with the glossy untill i saw the difference at the store and realized how much better the screen looks.

Got my girlfriend a brand new MacBook Pro 15" i5 today as a birthday present. :D Standard base model, couldn't afford any of the fancy upgrades. She's switching from an old Acer machine running Windows Vista and she seems to have fallen in love with it. :apple:

Just hit the fire button on my new MBP I mentioned at the top of this page.

As another user said - I had a mini panic attack for about 3 minutes straight because I've never spent so much money at once (only 24 years old). Lol.

I also re-read the configuration of my MBP about 15 times to make sure I didn't make a mistake - and I am still nervous I did. Haha.
