Tell them its more reliable and OSX doesn't get viruses. But the best way to prove Macs are better than Windows PCs is to hope it works according to this plan.
1. You own a Mac because you had so many problems with your Windows PC. Correct?
2. Hope your Mac lasts longer than your PC. (Take VERY good care of it)
3. Show your parents how after a few ears, its been a great machine, and its still running as fast as it did.

1. I had never had a bad experience with a PC. I am typing on a 6+ years old Dell Dimension 4550. I never had any bad problems with it. My recent PC laptop was a HP DV6T Quad with i7 that I bought on Black Friday for $622 after 20% bing cash back and that $450 HP Coupon. I sold it for $700 after 7 months of use. I have never experienced any problems with a PC what so ever.

2. I hope they do last as long.

3. Well I don't think it will last a few years. What I like about Macbooks is that they retail their value. When they release a new Macbook style, this one will go up for sale.

As for the virus thing, I never get viruses on my PC. I go to trusted porn sites with no viruses in them.

Is it a good idea to buy invisible shield to protect my Macbook pro from scratches? I will be putting it in my backpack for school though it does have a separate pocket and does not come in contact with any pens/pencil/keys/books.

It's not necessary, it really depends on how anal retentive you are about scratches. Eventually, the bottom of your MBP will get a few if it's uncovered, simply from sitting on different surfaces. If that bothers you, then an invisible shield-like product would be your best bet. I've found the Speck/Incase hard cases add to much weight and bulk for my liking, so the shields work well for me.

Personally, I prefer the Wrapsol brand for protecting my MBP. It has a matte finish which mimicks the aluminum pretty well, making it hard to tell there's a shield on at all. The IS looks like a shiny vinyl that is noticeable.

Here's some pics of another member's Wrapsol: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/907258/

I just put my own Wrapsol on my new MBP a few days ago, it looks perfect. Good luck either way.

So I finally ordered my MBP on Friday. 2.53GHz with High res glossy screen. Can't wait to have an Apple notebook again. Came up to $1950.10 CDN from the Apple Developer Connection Store which is a great deal and is the only reason I signed up for the Student Dev membership.

Has anyone else ordered from the Developer Store? Does it take extra time to get your order processed?

Very noobish question but how do I upgrade my memory from 4GB to 8GB? Do I buy the 4GB memory (2 2X sticks) and install it? My Macbook is the latest 13 inch.

Would this product be good?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0T8AVA2P68BX661XYTZS

The MBP only has 2 slots. Right now both slots are being taken by your 2GB sticks (4GB Total).

To get 8GB, you need to take out your old sticks and get 2 4GB sticks. You could sell them if you want. You could probably get 50-100$?

I think that newegg place gives you a $50 rebate if you send in your old sticks after purchasing their 8GB. I could be wrong tho.

Just ordered a refurb of the latest gen MacBook Pro 13.3" for $1018. Heck of a deal if you ask me. Added in AppleCare for good measure, as that makes it barely above the price of a brand new MacBook Pro ($1199).

Looking forward to this, as I am upgrading from a first generation Macbook 13.3" (Black). Should be a huge speed increase.

Just ordered my early graduation gift. MBP 15 i7 4gb hi res and a 128 ssd. I hope this thing flies :D Only a couple days until it gets here hopefully.

Got a new 13 MacBook Pro last week from Microcenter for 999! Can't say enough good things about Microcenter! It's my second purchase from them and you can't argue 200 dollars off the newest 13' Pro!

That's an awesome deal.. I wish we had Microcenter in the netherlands lol.

My order said 'prepared for shipment' last night and has said it's on it's way since... but still in Shanghai. Drat! Estimated delivery is Friday. I just want it now. D:

I am absolutely loving my new 15" MBP. I got the 2.53 GHz base model and it is blazing fast - dvd rips with handbrake is usually 30 - 35 minutes.

Also a huge fan of all the little touches that my old mbp didn't have, like the itunes control on the keyboard, SD card slot, battery status on the left side, and of course the unibody construction is just beautiful.

Got my black satin speck case today - looks great! Pics below

Will upgrade to a decent 7200rpm 500GB hard drive soon, and start looking for a SSD - most likely will wait until Intel releases their G3 lineup. Not in a rush.

I just picked one up from MicroCenter yesterday. I was planning on buying a refurbished MB, but the MBP was only $160 more after tax. I was originally only planning to spend around $500 on a new (Windows) laptop, so I'm waiting another day or two to open the box. Hopefully the "ugh, that's a lot of money to spend on a laptop feeling subsides by then.

I just got a refurb 17" i7 with anti-glare and 7200rpm hdd for $1969 from macmall.com

I think that was an awesome deal, but I'm not sure if apple will release something new that will top what I have now. I rarely buy new, so I won't buy the next gen at full price. I just hope they don't add something awesome, like blu-ray, 1gb video card, usb 3.0 or something else.

A speed bump in the next few months won't bother me.

I was thinking about getting the SPEC case aswell, but I ended up ordering a Case Logic 13 inch sleeve for my MacBook Pro. Partly because I don't think the SPEC case is that good looking ;)

everyone has their preference ;) i happen to love my speck case. i am still looking for a lightweight carrier / messenger bag for my laptop though.

so nice to have a new laptop! :D

Woohoo! My MBP is now at the international shipment release thing in Tennessee. It's so close! I just want to buy a plane ticket over there and go pick it up instead of waiting.
