Writing this one my 13" Macbook Pro that I got for xmas. Taking a little getting used to (its my first mac), but am really liking it so far :)

I got my MacBook Pro 13 inch today for Christmas. It is my first Mac and I am really excited to have one. But I do have a few questions about certain things.
1. Does leaving the battery plugged in once it is fully charged hurt the computer in any way?
2. Should I be worried about how many times I have to charge it? ( Today I charged it once and am now on it after it was charged. )
3. Any apps that I should know about that would be helpful to me?

If this is in the wrong place or something I apologize. But I just figured that I would post it here and see if anyone could help me out. Thanks.

Same position as you, just got my MBP 13" :D I'm really concerned about my battery though I love to use my computer but all my other laptop batterys I burned through fast. Is there a way to keep the charger plugged in without charging the battery? I thought there was..

Get ready to laugh at me :)

Ok Mac guys, I just bought a MBP 17" late 07 model 2.4 core 2 duo. I figured the kick you would get out of my post was how old it is. But what you may really get a kick out of is what I'm upgrading from!

I am upgrading from an ancient G4 Tower MDD 1.25 dual processor(I called it the wind tunnel LOL I use to keep it in a closet to keep fan noise out of miked recordings) LOL, yes it has been many years since I have gotten a new computer LOL! But while my old G4 geek benches at a little over 1000 it has been one dandy of a machine :)

I have used the old G4 for recording digital audio to even running FMP and not to slow considering I didn't know any better :)

My new MBP Geek Benches a little over 3100 I believe so this will be like trading up from a horse and buggy to a 2007 Corvette LOL!!

I will probably always keep my old G4 but I can't wait to get my hands on my new/used MBP.

I looked at a lot of factors when buying this used MBP and one reason for buying such an older one of course was cash. I was able to get it with the newest Snow Tiger and I Life 09 and many other goodies for 1100.00 bucks. Another plus for me is that it was a one owner and was not bought from the apple store until Jan 08, he sent me the original receipt plus it has a lot of musical apps that could be helpful to me in my studio.

Anyway when I looked at the new 2010 MBP's I almost swallowed my tongue :) I know they will blow my 07 out of the water but maybe when I make a little more cash I can upgrade!

Anyway guys it's good to be back posting here you all have a great one!!!

Got my 15 inch 2.4 macbook pro today. Waiting to get off work so that I can go home and unbox that beauty :)

just got a replacement for my 2008 macbook pro under applecare :) at first they made me pay $200 which they thought was the difference but then I showed them my receipts and got the money refunded. very happy thus far

Hello everyone,

I ordered a brand new 13" MacBook Pro with the default configuration from the Apple store two days ago. It's set to arrive on the 3rd, but I hope it does come earlier!

Damn am I excited about this! :)

just got a 13" base model MBP, and it's great. considering I am upgrading from a iMac G5 with 17" screen and 512mb of RAM, this is a huge leap forward. great machine

Waiting For My MBP 15" 2.66GHz! First Mac evah!

I ordered it by phone with an Apple tech guy. Wanted to discuss specs and custom configs before ordering. I've been waiting and saving for my first Mac for about 18 months. Cannot wait to switch. Been reading Pogue's Missing Manual for Snow Leopard for a few months now, trying to reboot my brain from PC to OSx!

I got my 13 inch base model yesterday and so far I love it. The screen size when it's on your lap looks so much bigger than it does in the Apple store when your standing above it.

Just ordered a MBP Core i5 17" 2.53GHz model w/3 years of Applecare.

I was thinking about the anti-glare but decided against it. My 2006 MB is fine with glossy, even now with the light behind me I dont see any reflection. But once again, my personal choice.

Sold my Mini and once it gets here, I'm taking out the HD for a 7200 500GB and selling my 2006 MB.

I ordered it by phone with an Apple tech guy.

Are the phone people more knowledgeable than the retail store people? I almost didn't want to get a Mac after talking to some of them.

Ended up ordering online (BTO with HR Glossy could not be purchased at a store anyway)

I've waiting to get a MacBook Pro since it was called a Powerbook! I finally order a 15inch MBP 2.53GHz Intel Core i5, 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm, Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display. Can't wait to get it.

Just bought my 1st mac the mbp 13" from microcenter on Jan. 1st so far i love it. Had to sell me dell studio xps 16 to pay for it but I think it was worth it because I was debating on getting netbook because i really needed something with good battery life. got the 2.4ghz version. Day 1 I already upgraded the memory to 8gb and 500gb 7200rpm drive. So far I am just getting use to it i just have 1 question between parallels and vmware fusion which do you guys recommend right now i just need it for 1 program autocad because i work for a contractor thats providing me a windows copy. and it there any other mac advice for a 1st time user it is appreciated thanks

Sold my mid-2009 13” MacBook Pro and bought a mid-2009 15” MacBook Pro. Amazing how gaining 2” in screen size costs so much! But I should have gotten a 15” to begin with

There's not a clearcut answer to this one; each has its merits. Do a couple searches, I know there's been a bunch of threads. Both have free trials I believe. Also consider Virtualbox, I hear it's good for the price (free).

and it there any other mac advice for a 1st time user it is appreciated thanks

Figure out your backup solution, and spend time with the OS as designed before adding a bunch of tweaks and stuff to change its behavior.

Just got my MBP 15" as a christmas present. Its the i5 version and WoW runs great on it!! But it runs really hot, any tips as to continue or not continue playing WoW with my MBP?

I just got a MBP 15" with the 2.8ghz i7 processor, 4mb RAM, 7200rpm drive, and the hi-res anti-glare display for Christmas also. I have been running WoW on it since the day I got it. It runs hot when I'm playing, but not too hot to keep in my lap. The fan runs most of the time, but not ALL of the time, so I doubt that it is overheating. I have the graphics settings on max resolution (1680x1050?), and the ingame settings range from good to ultra, depending on the individual setting. WoW actually runs a lot better on my MBP than it ever did on my old Dell desktop.

I also bought a MBP 13" 2.66 4mb RAM, 1400x800, for my wife for Christmas (we got them for each other). She wanted the smaller one with the stock hardware. All she does is websurf and email on it.

Except for a few iPods that we've had before, these two laptops are our very first Apple products. The transition has been more difficult than we were led to believe. Hooking into the home wireless network was easy, but finding the printers, configuring email accounts, and just trying to figure out how to do very simple things was incredibly time consuming. There are some features of the Windows XP/Vista/7 platform that I find very useful and wish were incorporated in Mac OS, but there are definitely some things about the Mac OS that are very nice as well. From a new user perspective, I really don't find one OS to be superior over the other.

As far as the machine itself is concerned - it is a beautifully designed laptop. Definitely the finest that I have ever owned from an aesthetic perspective. I hope that it remains reliable and useful to me for many years.

All which you have described just takes some time. You need to get used to the OS if you have been a long time windows user. Can't expect it to be THAT easy from the get go. But congratulations on the nice gear - you have a pretty powerful machine there, that is capable of many many processes.

Thank you for the encouragement. I have three brothers who are "Apple-heads" and have been bugging me for years to join them, but I just haven't felt the need. I have never had any of the problems that seem to plague so many Windows platform users (viruses, software crashes, etc.) so I have never felt the need to spend the extra money on a Mac.

I think what has happened is that they over-sold the Mac OS to me. Making it sound like using an Apple computer would be the most amazing thing to happen since the sun began to shine. Instead I have run into the same little nagging issues that I have dealt with on every other computer I've owned. So it has been a little discouraging. The good thing is that now I am learning the Mac OS, and now that the laptops are set up correctly, using them really is easy. The speed is breathtaking. They boot up like lightning and the battery usage is fantastic. Well, it is on my wife's MBP anyway. Mine is still excellent, but not as good. I attribute that to the faster processor that I ordered with mine. My 15" still lasts a solid 4-5 hours before needing a recharge. Her 13" MBP lasts 6-7 hours. Either way it is much better than any Windows machine I have used.

All in all, I feel that the Mac OS is superior to any Windows OS, but there are some little things that I can do in Windows that just don't exist in Mac. Such as being able to resize a window easily. Sometimes that little corner is really hard to grab onto, and on occasion I would prefer for an application to fill the whole screen to reduce distraction when I am reading. There are other differences, but I can't recall them at this time.
