So I finally made the jump.... I got a MacBook Pro 13" C2D. bought it new from the apple store. I think I may take it back for the 15", but not sure yet.... This machine is absolutely amazing... It isnt that hard to figure out at all actually... I thought it was gonna be a lot harder, but I am actually catching on quite easily. But, either way (13" or 15") i couldnt be more happy.

is a refurbished used ?

potentially. Generally, it means it's been in the hands of another customer, and then returned. After it's been returned, apple goes through and certifies that everything is as good as new, and sells it with full warranty. The biggest difference between new and refurb is the refurb comes in a boring box.

just new here

Hello,
Just new here in de forum. i follow this site long time already and find it very nice.
i would like to know where can i buy a referub mbp 15" in the Netherlands?
i"m still don't know if i should wait for the new mbp or just buy the existing model any tips info that can help me choosing my decision??
Wat comes with the new mbp? When?

Thanks Chim:)

Only complaint I have is that odd glass/tinkling noise my computer sometimes makes when I brush up against the bottom, but a quick Google search told me it a common flaw among the MCPs.

All in all, couldn't be happier with my purchase :)

Could it be the Sudden Motion Sensor built into the HDD?

I like the phrase certified preowned

Hello All,

I just ordered a certified preowned 17" 2.66ghz core i7 from Apple and I'm patiently awaiting the delivery of my 17" sweetheart ......You see I made the
mistake of thinking the purchase of a new 3GS ipad can substitute for the
15" Macbook C2D that I had to give to my daughter for college....

Well it CAN'T LOLOLO

After putting off getting a new laptop for about 4-5 months I took the plunge and ordered a new 15" Macbook Pro i5 500gb (7200 rpm) hi-res, from the UK Apple store website, along with Office 2011, iWork and Logic Express (complete unnecessary purchase as I study English at uni, but, what the heck I want to play about with it a bit) and Apple Care, and thanks to my student discount that £2300 price tag got taken down to 1700.

I have well and truly eaten my words, after teasing my girlfriend about the 'unjustified' price tag for ages, I can now say screw complaining when everything looks this damn shiny.

Two quick questions if anybody is interested instead of clogging up front page space on topics that may have already been posted; in terms of preserving battery life for the full alleged 1000 cycles, the guy at the apple store told my sister, who got a Macbook a few weeks ago, to not leave hers plugged in at all times, and to instead charge it up, and then unplug and use it till its on about 20%, is this entirely true? Can I not just leave it plugged in at my desk, without really paying attention to whether the light on my cable is now green?
Second, and not as important really, but what're you guys experience of Steam on the Mac? Does cross platform multiplayer run smoothly? Is it too good to be true?

Finally.. The time has arrived for me to present you all a message that I am finally satisfied!

After being patient, I ordered a Refurbished MBP 13" one week ago. I used to use a 2006 15" MBP, which caught up to 180 degrees when I surfed the web for 10 minutes. This new one I am using right now, that just arrived earlier today. I replaced the original 250 GB HD for a 500 GB (5,400 RPM) Western Digital I got for $50 on Amazon.com. I also put the Satin Speck case on it, and this is really nice to put on your lap.

Just starting it up, using it for the short time I have been, I can already tell that this laptop is perfect for me at this moment in time. I'll probably do better in school since I want to use the heck out of this thing!

Woo!

BTW, I was originally supposed to get it on February 5 instead of today... The winter snowstorms kept me from getting it sooner.

I just bought a base 13" Macbook Pro today for school. I was going to wait for the 2011 refresh but I realized that I was perfectly happy with my 2007 black Macbook (which died last week) - so I figured that if a 3 year old computer with 1 gb of ram kept me satisfied, this computer should keep me happy for years to come :)

Just bought my 3rd macbook pro (granted it's one with issues). I am expecting my 17" classic to come in today (provided Fedex doesn't lie again about me not being home when I was).

Benchmarking NEw Hard Drive MBP

My hard drive died on my MBP. It was less than 6 mos old. I had a Fuji. I took it to the store they replaced it with a Hitachi/5400/320. The xbench hard drive stats are pathetic. It beachballs CONSTANTLY.
So I ran a test using my external My Passport Firewire. The firewire ran circles around the internal, How can this be?? My Random uncached read and write were /Users/wth/Desktop/Screen shot 2011-02-12 at 11.13.43

These are my scores with the external!

SHould I be surprised? SHould I expect this from MBP now? Or is it just a Snow leopard thing?
I had one of the old style MBPs, and I never felt the need to even run a BM test. My MacMIni runs circes around this thing.(it is 2.4ghz and only 2 gb mem)

What type of external drive do you have?

If its a 3.5 inch drive with a power supply attached to it then its a 7200 RPM desktop drive and it will be faster than a 5400 RPM notebook HDD = it will have more cache, etc... also.

Woohoo just ordered mine this morning :D first Mac ever. I'm so excited

So how long does 2-3 day shipping usually take? (is it real that fast)
Happy valentines to my self

New MacBook Pro 15" being shipped from China!

I thought Apple products were assembled in the US. I ordered a MacBook Pro and its being shipped from China. Am I mis-informed? or is this due to a "pending" new release of the macbook pro?

Just picked up my 13" mbp from the gateway store in salt lake city while I'm here for military training. I couldn't wait for the refresh and the current model suits me just fine. Will be using it for college after I get back from Afghanistan in 2012. I had 15" non unibody a few years ago and sold it after I got the iPad, but being away from my mac mini with only a 16GB iPad and iPhone with a crappy wifi connection on base made me realize I need the laptop again. I love the unibody. It feels much more solid and tougher than my old one. I'll be fitting a bigger hard drive (copy of my mini's) when I get back home in a few weeks. I barely notice the size difference from my old 15" going down to the 13". I love it ang don't regret purchasing now. But if a new one does come out within the 30 days, and I like it, I probably won't hesitate to trade it in.

I'm jealous of all of you getting new MBP's!

I'm in the market for one just waiting on the refresh to see which one I end up with.

I believe all of Apple's products are assembled in China, usually in the Foxconn factory.

Apple doesn't assemble any new products in the US. Yes unfortunately you were misinformed, all of their assembly is currently done in China. It has been that way for many years now due to labor costs in the US. I believe if you purchase a refurbished Mac from Apple some of them are shipped from the US however I'm not aware where they are actually worked on.

I just got my first Mac. MBP 2.4 i5 15 inch for 200 bucks off retail. It was a display model at Fry's. I'm impressed that Apple has support for Windows on their computers. I installed Windows 7 64 bit with Bootcamp, used the drivers supplied by apple and it worked like a charm. I use parallel to log into both at the same time. I plan on upgrading the memory to 8 GB. I could not wait for the refresh :) I'm now selling my windows laptops and spending more time on the Mac OS. I have been set free of windows problems and now I can enjoy using a laptop instead of worrying who is hittng me now with windows.

Maybe two months or so ago I posted in this thread about how I just got my new MBP with the 15 Hires anti-glare screen, 2.8 Core i7, etc. It was my first Apple computer. Because of wife and kids, I currently own three PC desktops and four PC laptops. I have owned several PC computers over the last 15 years in addition to the ones I currently own and, except for a single hard drive failure, I have never had a major issue with them. Never virus problems, or any major hardware issues.

I just got my brand new high end Macbook Pro back from the Apple store two days ago. After waiting for three hours in the showroom they couldn't fix the screen problems it was having and said it was a logic board failure. They would have to image my HDD to a new laptop. So I went to work and came back a few hours later to find that they had put the wrong HDD in the new laptop. It was supposed to have the faster 7200 rpm drive in it. So I had to wait another hour while they fixed that issue.

Now, two days later, I'm still having issues with mouse control (despite reinstalling the drivers), settings that didn't get transferred, and other little details.

Now I'm wondering why I listened to all the people who told me that Apple was so great. After shelling out nearly $3k for a top end laptop, I'm very frustrated. How often does this happen?

I'm anxiously awaiting the upgrade for a new MBP.

Me, three. I just got my first MacBook two weeks ago, then I find this site. I have 45 days with BB Premier Silver to return it, if the update is THAT good. Anyway, I am really learning alot and look to learn from everyone's experiences.
