I bought my first mac ever, a 13" i7 yesterday. Soo excited :D I was just wondering when people have been getting their confirmation emails? I have yet to get mine. Is this something I should worry about?

My confirmation email came in about 15-20 minutes. I ordered today (Sunday).

Just pulled the trigger!

Hey,

Here is what I just ordered:

From Apple.ca:
- MBP 2011 15" high end
- 2.2Ghz
- 4Gb ram
- 128Gb SSD
- High res glossy screen

From macsales.com:
- OWC 8Gb ram
- DIY kit data doubler + 750Gb 7200RPM HD
- OWC slim line SATA usb enclosure (for removed SuperDrive)

So I just spent around 3.2k $CAN on my first mac ever and even though I feel quite excited about it and can't wait to receive it, I can't help but feel a little sad for my bank account! Girlfriend says it's fine because I have been talking about this purchase day and night for months now (been waiting for the 2011 upgrade for a while :p) and she's happy I'll stop talking about it and finally get to use it, but man it's a lot of money for a laptop!!!

Anyway, I use my laptop everyday for web, email and all the basic stuff, plus I do some video editing from time to time and I am currently developping my first iOS app (couldn't wait and started learning xcode and all on a hackintosh .. sorry guys! from now on, I'll be legit with my new mbp). I plan on developping a few other apps too just for the fun of it. I also do some gaming once in a while so I will definitly be installing Windows 7 on bootcamp and I'm sure this new mbp will be able to handle all the recent games with decent settings...

So, for all those reasons, I feel comfortable with my purchase because I know I will use it a lot, but man does this price hurts, I hope all of you guys are right and I will come to love this machine so much that I will never regret.

Anyway, just wanted to share and thank all of you people on this forum for all the good posts around.

Pulled the trigger on a 15" 2.2GHz 4GB and 7200rpm 500gb drive. Standard display. Went for the free printer too. Why not?
Printer should arrive by Friday. The MBP is has a pretty wide range from only a few days to more than a week. Pretty psyched. My i7 iMac is also enroute back to Apple for a refund.

Happy to have a new MBP 13"

Picked up my base 13" MacBook Pro this afternoon as an early grad school graduation present. I had a 15" Core Duo MBP (purchased in 2006) that lasted me up until December of 2010. It really put in its time. I hardly ever turned it off. It was easy to sell my wife on getting another one!

I've been reading the posts asking about which MacBook Pro to get and I thought I'd share why I went with the base model.

1) We have an iMac Core 2 Duo (2Ghz, 2007 model) that's working like a champ. We added RAM last year and it works just like new. I wanted portability and didn't need a desktop replacement.

2) I type papers, browse the web, watch movies, store my photos, and edit videos of the family using iMovie. I was never disappointed in my old MacBook pro or current iMac's ability to handle these tasks. I figure the 13" will do just the same.

3) Very nice entry price point, especially with student discount.

All in all, I think this is a solid machine that will last me for a few years. Judging by my previous MBP's experience, I know I'll be happy.

Anyone else go with the base model?

Even the base model of the 13" kicks serious butt this time around. Makes me jealous, but I'm only 2.5 years into my mbp myself. Couple more years...

Mine left Memphis around 3 PM. Here's to hoping that it will get to me in NY tomorrow even though the estimated delivery is for Tuesday morning.

i ordered mine of friday, its prepared for shipping haha I cant wait!
13" baseline - upgraded to 128 GB SSD I do a lot of the same things with my computer and right now im runnning on a dell studio 15 from 07' should be a big upgrade for me

good computer OP....best of luck...

I am sure the base 13" will continue to be apple's best selling notebook.

Its a good starting point for many new to apple. And now is a real no brainer vs the macbook.

Yeah, I went with the base 13" as well. Sold my five month old white Macbook earlier this week and placed my order Thursday night.

I also considered a refurb of the 2010 15" (the base version that was going at fire sale prices), but decided instead to put the $200 difference into a new GPU for my desktop. Like you, I have no desire or need for a desktop replacement, and the 15" was just a bit big for my tastes...now I've got the best of both worlds.

Looking at ordering a 15" highend model at the end of March. I have a bunch of visa giftcards coming my way from my Birthday on the 26th to add to the ones I saved from Christmas and also my year end work bonus. Can't wait. Enjoy your new MBP's! I wan't feedback and reviews!

How long after prepared for shipment do they usually ship? Mines just hit prepared for shipment today which is day 1/ estimated '3 days shipping'. Is it likely to go out today?

First Mac computer

Bought the new Winter 2011 MacBook Pro yesterday at Best Buy. It's the 2.0GHz, 500GB, 15".

It's my first Mac. I will be posting new threads for suggestions as to accessories, displays, and any important suggestions for students using Macs.

I also joined MacRumors tonight. I'm excited to be making the transition from PC to Mac.
