15" 667 DVI -> 17" 3.06 500/7k

After over seven years of travels with my 15" PowerBook to countries as remote as Bora Bora and far north as Iceland, the wait is over. I ordered my (much anticipated) 17" MBP within hours after the announcement at the WWDC.

I customized mine with the 7200rpm HDD, 3.06Ghz processor, and anti-glare screen as I photograph over 20 weddings in the Rochester, NY area every summer and am planning on actually getting out and enjoying the weather this summer (while retouching the photos). :)

As of today (Friday, June 12, 2009) the famed MBP status is:

Prepared for Shipment
MBP 17/ CTO
Z0GW
Ships: 5 - 7 business days
Delivers: Jun 16 - Jun 22

Up until Thursday afternoon the status had been something like Ordered Not Shipped or Pending - I honestly forget.

More below:

I went to the Apple Store at the Eastview Mall yesterday to return a wireless Mighty Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard - the scroll ball on the mouse wouldn't scroll up (had a similar issue with my wired MM, but it stopped scrolling down) and the right arrow key on the keyboard wouldn't respond unless you pressed it exactly in the middle of the key. Exchanged keyboard, tried out in store and had the same problem only it was the down arrow key. Gave up. Purchased Logitech LX8 Laser mouse at Best Buy for half the price of the MM - much better (just disable the ring-finger (forward) button and you're good to go).

Anywho, after returning aforementioned shoddy products, I stopped to check out the 17" MBP the Apple Store had on display. Fortunately, they had a MBP with an anti-glare screen so I could see how big a difference the MBP looked with the silver bezel instead of the black bezel. [Sigh]. Many folk were complaining how much different it looked or how they "eventually" forgot about it. Ya, eventually in 3 seconds - it's such a non-event (kind of like Swine Flu).

I'll be giving my old 15" PowerBook to a family member. The PB may not look all that great, but I can honestly said it has been a workhorse over the last 7+ years (purchased May 2, 2002) without any viruses or major failures - I did have to replace the HDD about 2 or 3 years ago, but only because it was impossible to free up enough space to actually be productive! And, I replaced the optical drive, upgrading to a DVD±RW writable drive, but the original optical drive worked just fine. So, other than cosmetically it's basically the same machine as when I bought it! :)

Nice Man!!! So that gives me hope that mine will hopefully be ready for shipment on Monday....The wait just kills...I had thought about skippin the faster drive, but oh well, it is only a few more days...This is my first Apple laptop as i have been eyeing them for awhile now, but the price was just out of my reach. Thankfully i got a sweet IT job so i decided that now was a better time then ever to get one. Let us know how it is when you get it.:)

Just got my 2.8 GHz 15" MBP.

The only other mac i've ever owned was an old 1.8 GHz MBA with 64 GB SSD.

Even though the MBP has a HDD, it's FAST. Granted its a huge processor upgrade, but I can only imagine how fast it would be with a solid-state drive.

I got my 13" MacBook Pro today! It's my first Mac ever so I don't really have anything else to compare it to. I absolutely love the multi-touch trackpad though. Good thing I waited on buying a mouse for it because now I don't think I really need to get a mouse.

I'm surprised to find that I like Safari 4 better than the Mac version of Firefox, though. I don't think Safari on Windows is a good browser at all.

Anyway, I love my Mac. :D :apple:

My 13 inch MBP should arrive tomorrow! Ordered in Thursday.

hope your carrier delivers on saturdays! mine was shipped to my dad's office so they probably won't bother delivering till monday, but even if they did tomoro we wouldn't be there. Maybe I should get online at like 630-7AM just to see if it's at a local distribution point or out for delivery

my co-worker says my computer will probably arrive a day earlier shipped to a commercial address versus a residential address because the fedex system is set up to be business to business and when they factor in residential stuff it gets a lot more complicated.

I wonder if the carrier's online tracking systems has to put all the apple shipments on a special server farm to handle all of us clicking refresh nonstop. lol :p I just saved them the trouble by having them send notifications to me via text.

Can I post if I bought off Craigslist?

Just bought a used Early 09 MBP 15" 2.66 model off CL today. So far, I am in love with it. I have only had a few hours with it and since I am a sissy (my first mac since my dad had one back in 198x) I installed Vista Ultimate 64 on an 80gb partition via Boot Camp and am using that for the time being.

I spent months of intensive researching of the available PC laptops but nothing, and I mean NOTHING, compared to a MBP.
As of this writing I could not be happier. It was well worth the extra $$$.
With a little work I hope that I can migrate to Leopard for day-to-day use soon.

Lots of great deals on the SoCal CL site since the new MBP's were released. I'm looking forward to everything this site has to offer.

I just got my 2.53 13"MBP.

Do I need to fully charge/drain the battery? I remember with my PowerBook G4 the manual told me to do so but I don't see anything this time so is it necessary?

you didn't get the new one, but I'm sure you still got a great machine. Welcome to the club! (can I say this if I don't join the club till monday or tuesday?) I would recommend buying VMWare Fusion 2 off newegg, (with the current rebate its a great deal at $35 for an awesome product) .... this will help you in getting to know the OS X on your own terms, and your machine can handle virtualized vista no problem!

one11archerave: Lithim ion technology is awesome. check this out.

I can't wait till my new MBP comes in. My entire life I have either been primarily a Windows (3.1 and on) or Linux (year 2003 forward) user. Looking forward to rocking UNIX in style! In elementary school i TOTALLY wanted a mac cuz i thought i couldn't do kid pix at home, like we all did, but even that came to our PC after a little too. I went from Windows to Linux and back a few times over the years, and got involved in the local LUG. Both Windows and Linux made me want to do this sometimes, but for totally different reasons. glad I didn't. lol.

I am not sure what is worse. Waiting for you knew mac to arrive or having it arrive 1 hour after you left the house for 3 days. My first ever mac is at my house 3 hours away and I won't get to use it until sunday. Life is cruel, but at least it is at my house. Woo Hoo.

I hope it's not sitting on your front porch. Depending on the neighborhood this can be a bad thing, but even that doesn't apply when it's apple stuff cuz everyone wants it. (I had a friend lose some north face jackets bought off ebay because of this)

they (apple) say they make the carriers get a signature though, if they always do, good for them. Even if you're inconvenienced it's well worth it to know you will get the stuff you bought.

Oh, and do you have any friends or family that work for or are contractors for the federal, state, or local government? Sorry, you can't get a free ipod touch, but you can get some good discounts that are better than academic in some cases when they purchase on your behalf. and yes, it works in store too, and they have SOME discount on EVERYTHING in the online store. Actual apple products have better discounts than third-party stuff of course!

Anyone can browse the epp stores, look at prices, and so forth, and they require no confirmation of employment to actually order, but if you're not eligible to do so then DO NOT do it through the epp store, since there is a possibility they could audit you after the fact. I'd imagine the same goes for the academic store if you're not a student/faculty/staff but still have a .edu email address (or whatever they require)

check this out. The program is surprisingly non-restrictive and open too, read the stuff below. the store link is here. (choose the appropriate one for federal, state, or local gov)

Personal Discount: You may purchase or "sponsor" up to six system bundles each calendar year (January 1-December 31). "Sponsoring" means placing an order for a family member or friend. No more than two systems or monitors may be shipped each calendar year to the same individual or entity (i.e., company, institution, club or group), whether that purchase is sponsored solely by you or, also, by other eligible employees. You may not sponsor the purchase of products by any educational institution. A system bundle includes, and is limited to, one CPU, one display (built-in displays count as one display), one AirPort card and one Airport Base station. You do not need to purchase all components of a system bundle at the same time to qualify for the discount.

AppleCare Protection Plan: AppleCare Protection Plan ensures that you'll have service and support for three full years from the date of purchase of your new Apple computer. This comprehensive plan includes telephone support, Apple-certified repairs, web-based support resources, and powerful diagnostic tools -- all for one economical price. You may purchase "reasonable quantities" of the Protection Plan under this EPP. "Reasonable quantities" are defined as a number not more than the number of system bundles you have purchased under this EPP.

Accessories: Additional hardware and software products are occasionally offered on the EPP store. These items can be added to any EPP order (except for displays offered as part of the system bundles described above).

Yeah, it is not the new model, purchased 1 APR 09, but I saved a ton of $$$. Paid $1700 with iWork 09, Office 08, 3 year Apple Care, Apple virus software, Bluetooth Mighty Mouse, plus a sweet backback/case. Add all that up new and it would cost a fortune. I can't complain since a new 2.66 with only 3mb cache and 256mb 9800GT is $2200 OTD.

Since I had a legal retail copy of Vista Ultimate, it only made since to buy a MAC so I could learn Leopard while still being able to fall back on Vista. I spent months and months trying to find the right PC laptop, but everything fell short. Once my roommate got a mac and I used it for a bit, there was no turning back. Nothing offered in the PC market comes even remotely close. I could have spent a little less and got a much bigger, heavier computer with a 2.5 hour battery, but why? Right now, I have two computers in one that blows away anything else offered. You cannot put a price on that. Well, maybe for $1700 you could :)

I've just bought a 13" MBP from the Apple Store Glasgow this morning.

Later this month I'll upgrade the RAM and HDD to 4GB and 500GB.

So far I love it.

I can't believe that person sold their old computer with iwork 09 and office 08, and the mouse and case, but good for you. (unless they didn't want the mouse and case anymore). Put the "old" (but still current version) software on your new shiny toy and you're good to go. :) you lose applecare though, but it will net you more for the machine.

Of course, you have to slick the hard drive and re-install Leopard, or better yet buy another hard drive off newegg and did a fresh install on that. (Given enough time and effort, someone can probably get any data that ever existed on a hard drive off of it.) And at least be fair to them and include the Leopard install disc too. (LOTS of used and older apple computers from 2001+ or so on ebay don't include OS X install discs, but have it pre-installed, disappointing actually)

Many times I wish there was a site for computers like Kelley Blue Book or edmunds.com is for cars. (you put in a bunch of information about the machine you want to buy or sell and it tells you what you can expect to get or pay for it, constantly updated of course)

I ordered my first MBP (in sig) Thursday morning and got an e-mail from Apple with the shipment at 4:22am :).

Jun 13, 2009 3:51 PM Left FedEx origin facility SHANGHAI CN
Jun 13, 2009 3:46 PM Picked up SHANGHAI CN Package received after FedEx cutoff
Jun 13, 2009 1:16 PM Shipment information sent to FedEx

I received my free printer today, and the iPod touch is scheduled to be here 6/17, with the MBP scheduled on 6/18.

Has the delivery date been more accurate by FedEx or by the shipment confirmation e-mail?

Naturally FedEx would be more accurate as they are the ones shipping the package.

Guess who's now an official Mac owner!

Fed Ex just delivered my 1st Mac (13" MBP). Part of the family now, brethren:) Seriously, I'm so thankful to be free of MS. And all the great stuff Apple is doing has literally led me to become an iPhone developer. I keep seeing the scene from Braveheart in my head..."Freedom!" (w/out the nasty death following, of course).
