Tracking

I don't seem to be able to track my shipment :(. I had an email on the 25th saying it had been shipped and in the email it named the carrier as 'Syncreon Technology'? But when i use the track my order button it doesnt give me a carrier or tracking number instead for both it says 'In transit to final destination - carrier details to be updated shortly.'

After two days it still says this so i phoned Apple who have confirmed its shipped but according to the telephone opperative it is coming from China (as id gathered from it being BTO and seeing others tracking logs). But apparently I'll only get a tracking number once it gets to the UK. Is this normal? How come others can track it step by step from China?

It might depend on what vendor they use for shipping in your country. I know its Fed-Ex stateside and i think UPS in Canada. Maybe it switches shippers once it's on terra firma. Hope that helps.

Just got a MacBook Pro 13" 2011 i5. Picked it up from microcenter for $1,099. I haven't really used OS X before it's a bit differe but I'm liking it. My desktops are still windows machines.

I had another email from Apple earlier today and I think it seems to be because I ordered VMware Fusion as part of the same order. Doing this seems to have had the affect of increasing my delivery time by upto five days as for 'my convenience' they will get both the items shipped to the same point and 'merge' my MBP and software together so it arrives together. only once the two items are together will i get a tracking number and they will only merge once in the UK (i guess the software is already here).

What a stupid idea! Why not send them both straight to me? The software would likely have already got here by now (order placed on Thursday) and the MBP would be winging its way to me direct. Maybe it saves them money or something, or if i was having it delivered to my house would mean i'd only have to be in on one day rather than two?

Humph!:(

Ordered 15 MBP, 2.2GHz, 128GB SSD, HR-AG on Wednesday night, Mar 23 and it was delivered today with the free shipping. That is a very fast turn over time. I'm wondering if paying for expedited shipping is a waste of money.

I order last Thursday night (the 24th) with expedited shipping. I think it was 2-3 day shipping.

According to the FedEx website it said "estimated delivery March 30 by 10:30 am." However, it appears to be coming in a day early as it is "on FedEx vehicle for delivery." Does anyone know if it should be arriving today before 10:30 am if was originally said to come in the following day by 10:30 am?

I have to stay home from work to wait for this package as Apple has an agreement with FedEx that will not allow them to hold the package...

Really??? As in they will just return the package to sender if they can't deliver on the first try? I think that sounds kind of crazy...

I'm not sure if they return to sender after the first try. Maybe they just try to re-delivery the next day? What I meant by hold the package, is for you to go pick it up at a FedEx location instead of them delivering. I was told by FedEx that Apple does not allow FedEx to hold the item for the customer to come in and pick up. It must be delivered....

Oh I see, that makes more sense.

As far as the time though, I'm not sure how FedEx works. In Japan you can set a certain delivery time but I don't remember being able to do that back at home. I wouldn't count on the delivery time being the same.

OK, this is going to be a bit sentimental, but March 8th, 2011 is a big day for me. I got my first computer (a Commodore 64) in 1988 (I believe) at the age of 5, and we got our first PC at home about 2 years later. The first OS I remember well is Windows 3.1, although I probably used 3.0 as well.

Back then it was all about games to me. I loved playing around with MS-DOS, frantically tweaking config.sys, autoexec.bat and command.com to try to make the PC run all the early Leisure Suit Larry, King's Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest and Test Drive-games, and later Stunts, Myst, SimCity 2000, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Wing Commander, Strike Commander, Syndicate, Shivers and Phantasmagoria. I was also into early Summer Games/Winter Games and soccer games like Sensible Soccer, Championship Manager and the early FIFA-series. Not the most "artistic" games perhaps, but I was a kid.

My "gaming career" pretty much came to a full stop around 1999, but looking back I don't think I can remember a single install that went well without me having to tweak something. From 2000 to 2010 I've used various PC's and (Acer) laptops for regular stuff like surfing/writing, but also music/video work, and I've followed Microsoft all the way from Windows 3.0 to Windows 7, but I've grown increasingly tired of having to tweak and clean the OS.

I first thought seriously about leaving ship when Microsoft Vista came out. I just couldn't get it to work right, and I struggled so much with it. I have to say that Windows 7 was a massive improvement, but my whole chemistry is ready for a change now, and over the past 6-7 months I've frequented this forum, and gradually begun the transition.

I too have been one of those that were turned off by the specs and the Apple tax, but - and this might be a little weird, but it was actually buying an iPhone 4 with iOS that sold me completely. I love pretty much everything about it, and the word that keeps coming back to me is "intuition". I have just about no experience with Mac OS X, but from the videos I've seen, and the few times I've fooled around with it, and seen others work on it, it just looks so intuitive, dynamic and stable. It simply looks like a lovely environment to work in.

So today - after 20 years with Microsoft - I ordered a 17" (high-resolution matte screen) 2,2GHz i7 Quad-Core, 500GB (7200 rpm) HD (which I might upgrade to SSD when the SATA III HD's are available) and 8GB RAM Macbook Pro. Got myself an Apple Remote and a Magic Mouse as well. The store said that it will take about 2 weeks.

It feels... A little scary, but definitely exciting! My dream is simply to spend less time tweaking, and more time being creative. I hope I made the right decision. :)

The Apple Store was dead right! It took exactly two weeks, which means I have now spent a week with my new Macbook Pro, and I love this thing so much that it feels more like an hour.

This is probably one of the best decisions I've ever made for myself, considering how much time I spend in front of a computer. The machine is absolutely incredible!

So far I've only managed to make it lag slightly by playing a heavy mkv file in VLC while running loads of other stuff in the background. It really is a beast - and a beautiful one at that! I just can't wait to explore this beauty further, and learn as much as possible about the Apple ways of working.

A huge thanks goes out to all the good people on this forum who've inspired me to enter the Mac world. I'm converted!

Hey all,

I am a longtime forum creeper but I felt I should create an account and start posting on these forums. I ordered:

2011 15" Macbook Pro
2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200
8x Double-Layer SuperDrive
MBP 15" HR Glossy WS Display

Plan to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM from Crucial or OWC in the future. May upgrade to SSD if/when the prices become a little more reasonable.

I placed the order on March 20th, it shipped on March 23rd, and according to UPS, it has been delivered today! Now I just have to try and get through this school day so I can go home and set up this beast!

This is my first Mac, and I could not be more excited!!

For $72.99 with $10 instant rebate and free shipping, why don't you upgrade the ram to 8GB with G.Skill from newegg. This is a killer deal and it gets perfect reviews from many, many mac users.
