Turn it on and use it! Here's some info to get you going:
This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:
There has never been a virus in the wild that runs on Mac OS X. The handful of trojans that exist can be easily avoided with some education and common sense and care in what software you install:

Just picked up a Macbook Pro i5 for 1051.17 from Amazon.

It's on sale today for 1114.61
-3% cach back with an amazon credit card =1084.61
-$30 bonus I got from signing up for the credit card=1051.17

+Bonus $20 Amazon gift card from Living Social I got for free because people signed up under me.
So grand total was 1031.17 if I can count this.

Ordered my second ever mac two days ago: 15" 2.2 with 500gb HD, HD AG screen, 4GB Ram (will upgrade this later on my own).

I'm so excited I feel like a little kid again. I haven't bought a new computer since my first ever mac purchase way back in April of 2006 (first macbook pro 1,1). That laptop has followed me across the world and I have had but one single repair, a broken fan replaced 4 years ago, along the way. That was what convinced me to spend a little extra and order my second mac.

Was quoted 3-5 days until shipping and today is day 3. Judging from other stories here it seems like they are often faster than quoted so crossing my fingers it will go out today. Best part is that I live in Japan and am so much closer to China than I was back in 2006! :D

Ahh, yesterday was the big day, got the BTO 15" MBP with AG display, 128GB SSD, 8GB Ram.

It is really fast and in impeccable condition cosmetically.

I have installed a few applications now and tonight I'll have to install me optibay + 750GB WD Scorpio Blue.

Then it's time for Parallels and win7 for those speech-synthesis apps and screen readers that I need for work.

Last time I used Mac OS was about 15 years ago, uni student.
I am pretty happy to report that I already start to hate my desktop windows...

BTW, the trackpad is SUPERB !!!!
(but you already know that :p )

Why did you get the AG?

I am debating between the Glossy and AG.

Why did you get the AG?

I am debating between the Glossy and AG.

Because of my experience in the past 10 years.

I find it very hard to use my Fujitsu laptop with glossy display while my Sony matte screen is much much better.

I live in Greece, my Uni office as well as my workplace and home have huge windows to let the sunlight in. That makes the glossy screen pretty much unusable.

Same goes for my earlier tv, now sold and got a Panasonic plasma with several layers of antiglare filters (as they market it). The model that sported the most antiglare stuff at that moment :)

I have even seen students having hard time to use their Toshiba laptops that have glossy plastic cases, too much reflection even from the case itself...

Finally replaced my 2007 black MacBook with a 2011 15" MacBook Pro (2.3 GHz i7, 4 GB RAM, 750 GB HD and Hi-Res AG display). Love it. Got everything transferred and cleaned up and running last night. I have been holding out with my BlackBook for a while. And while it was a great machine, the new one blows it out of the water.

Hey all!

Wanted to share that I finally picked up my Macbook Pro...a 13" 2.3GHz i5 model. My choice was between this and the base model 13" macbook air.... Because I already have an iPad, portability wasn't that much of an issue. We also have a fully spec'd out 17" MBP at home, but my wife uses that most of the time for her work... With my needs being mostly Word, PowerPoint, Excel, along with web browsing and email, I thought this would be plenty for me. So far I love it! I put on a Speck see-thru case and it looks awesome.

Just ordered exactly what you purchased. (post previous to last - 15" 2.3ghz i7) I've trawled these forums for a couple of months now.

I plan to upgrade my RAM (not paying £160 for 4GB when I can find on net for around $100 - no brainer!) & am gonna wait a couple of months for more reviews on a SATA III drive. The idea is to transfer the stock HD to optibay, (now I hear of the horror stories regarding knocks/bumps & them crashing or dying! Great!) install a well reviewed SATA III SSD in the HD bay & potentially replace the stock HDD with a SATA II as a III won't work in the optibay. (love the trial & error reports these forums provide.)

I've been thinking should I hold out? Should I wait for Lion? The so called revision in 10/11 or the alleged redesign in 2012?

B*ll*x to it! I want it & I want it now. I've had a pc for 4yrs now & quite frankly, I'm tired of d*cking around with AV software, system cleanups, etc. My gf just got a virus on her Toshiba running Windows 7 Ultimate & I thought F this, it's time to jump ship.

I think I've seen the light. The darkside has too many flaws.

I will use the mac primarily for music production & DJing. My pc just couldn't hack the pace with the new DJ software & hardware.

I had a Apple pc performa 180/??? when I was at school.

It's good to be back!! Almost.

My stance is that if you need it now, you need it now. There will always be a redesign or something somewhat better off in the future! if you wait for that, you'll always be waiting!

Besides, you'll be able to install Lion when it comes out. There may be a fee but i'm sure it won't be that much.

I spoke with a girl today at Apple & she said the upgrade from L to SL was £26. I'm not going to lose any sleep over £26 as I know it'll be worth paying for. Shame this machine isn't future proof but that's the beauty of progress & the wow factor hey. We all benefit in the end.

got my MBP today!!!

Hi All,

My CTO 128GB SSD, 8 GB RAM, 2.2 i7 15" came today! It's blazing. Shipped with 10.6.7 much to my delight.

Thanks for all the help! I may disappear from the forums for some time while I set everything up over the next few weeks (in addition to graduating), and working on the next big project I purchased this computer for in May/June.

Thanks again all!

-Keith
