Just received my CTO 17" 2.2GHz, 128GB SSD MBP this afternoon (ordered on March 30). Damn you weren't kidding about the fast bootup time, out of the box it boots up in 20secs from chime to desktop screen. I recorded a video of the bootup and will post it online soon. Damn I couldn't be happier :D

One of the first things I did was to turn off that silly chime! :)

Ordered the 2.0hz 15" on tuesday with 750gb HDD & Hi-res Gloss display! :D

which makes today the last day of the "1-3 buisness days" dispatch time!! :D

Cannot wait to make the switch from W/XP

just got an e-mail saying my order is in transit.

does this mean I might recieve it today before 5pm

or am i hoping too much

Yes it does, I returned one last month.

great, then I'll place my order right now :) I have to intention of returning it for no reason because my 07 MacBook is getting too slow and I need an upgrade but I just wanted to know in case of any dead pixels/ defects!

So my MBP 17 arrived today and before powering it up, I checked the keyboard for any wonky keys. Sure enough, one of them is stuck on the lower side and does not depress evenly. It still works if I press hard enough but it's faulty nonetheless. I might hang on to it for a few days before I return it to insure there's no other issues. So much for the old adage, "you get what you pay for."

update: Apple support called it a DOA and said I should return to the dealer who would have to ship it back to be replaced. The rep asked if it was a floor model as keys can often get stuck if something is spilt on them. It's supposed to be brand new, but when it's being shipped from a reseller to the store, how can you be certain it hasn't been used or refurbished? I'm thinking I might return it to Staples and buy direct from Apple Canada instead. No finance options but at least I can be sure it hasn't been used. Oh, the joy.

I've been using my new (2011) 15" High-res antiglare MacBook Pro for about 3 weeks now, and I love it.

I went from a 17" Dell laptop running Windows 7 to my first Mac.

:)

I just won a 2011 Macbook pro 13inch base model on ebay.

For £750. Quite a decent saving indeed I reckon.

Its apparently mint condition and only a week old, and comes with the original receipt so hopefully it'll be good! I really don't like buying used, but with it being only a week old and so much cheaper, I had to give it a go. I hope its alright.

It'll technically be my second mac. As I did have a macbook air 13 base model for 1 whole day before I decided to return that.

I read the first couple words and I'm like no way you won one in a contest??? Talk about luck. Then I kept reading and saw ebay. Congrats nonetheless.

Ha. I wish it was a contest!

I think ebay for £750 is the next best thing though.

I just bought my first new Mac yesterday. I couldn't pass up the Micro Center deal and had the Apple Store match the price. $999 for the 13" MacBook Pro base model was just too good of a deal to pass up. Now I'm looking to put 8Gb of Ram and a SSD in it. I may wait until I notice it slowing down so I really see how much it helps, I have really no need for it now. I had a G4 12" PowerBook a couple years ago to get familiar with Mac software, and it was free, but just hadn't been convinced I needed a new laptop with 2 other pcs at home. But with the price I said "what the hell". I am loving it so far.

I bought my very first Mac today. I got the refurb 2010 15.4 MBP 2.4GHz i5 that is $1,269 in the Apple Store. The system specs are perfect for my needs. I tried out OSX on a hackintosh recently and was so impressed that I decided to make the switch. Now comes the part of learning everything.

Ordered by Base 15"

Finally put in my base 15" order, the the high resolution anti-glare option.

The new system replaces a > 3.5 year old Santa Rosa 15" 2.4 Ghz C2D that I sold on, really can't wait to get going on the 4 cores and "bigger" screen.

Reckon this machine should keep me developing for another 4-5 years. Was going back and forth between this and a Vaio but the price difference wasn't enough to justify the move back to Windows.

My story begins when I received my first computer as a gift in 1993...it was a Macintosh LC II and it ran system 7...I loved it and was amazed by its 40gb hard drive...well that was sadly the last time I owned a Mac...I've been a pc guy since then...but having an iPhone 4 32gb ATT and an iPad 2 64gb 3g ATT I decided it's time to have the ultimate MB pro to compliment them...so last night I ordered my first Mac since 1993...
Macbook Pro 15"
2.3 ghz i7
8gb RAM
512gb SSD HD
Hi-Res Glossy screen
Applecare

and now the agonizing wait for it to arrive...:)

Well I returned my 17" glossy, 5400 750gig system and ordered the 17" AG and 7200 500gig.

To be honest, I have anxiety over spending this much money.
I wanted to wait until the imac refresh, but I got an extra 150 off because of problems I had renewing Mobileme.

Honestly it's a computer, if it causes you anxiety then you just shouldn't spend the money. These computers are seriously expensive, and while they're great machines, your stress and finances are more important than running OS X.

I understand what you are saying.
I was debating between this and an asus g73sw for 1200 less.

My estimated delivery date is today,

and while I'm still confident that apple will still deliver my new macbook today,

I've not recieved my courier tracking number yet, even though I got an e-mail that it was now in transit on friday.

just a little annoyance.

I've been without a computer at home for over three weeks now, so really looking forward to my new Mac.

update- after 5pm, no Mac still - hopefully tomorrow - god damn apple delivery.

I ordered a 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 Quad Core MBP 750GB HD from amazon.co.uk 3 days ago (despite living in Spain). They offer an 8% discount and i had also a 250€ gift coupon there, so i got it for around 1750€, 400€ less than in the Apple store in Spain. Probably will use that money saved to buy an SSD once it's more clear which ones will be fully supported and if it's worth it to buy the newer SATA ones or just go with old ones like Vertex II, etc.

It should arrive at my home in Spain on thursday and i'm so excited reading all that i can about Mac OS X.

I have been working with Msdos/Windows PCs for 20 years and in the past 5 years also with linux (mainly for work, admin web servers by command line). So i guess it's going to be an step learning curve at first, but it has me excited, not worried at all.

I have always been curious about mac, and tired of being told all the time by friends in my same biz sector (web design/online marketing) how much their productivity increased after switching to mac. So i decided to try it myself too against my second option that was a new Vaio SB.

Just about to order a new 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 Quad Core MBP, 750GB HD with 8GB Crucial memory and 15" hi res glossy screen :D

Looks a great upgrade from my late '08 MBP.

Mine was delivered yesterday:

  • 17" antiglare
  • 2.3GHz
  • 8GB RAM
  • 500GB 7200

This thing goes like a a rocket. I was considering upgrading the SSD but i'm going to hold off now until they're larger capacity and more reliable. I honestly think it boots up just as quick as some of those videos i've seen on youtube with SSD. I might time it tonight...

Just ordered my second MacBook Pro, old one was stolen. Ordered the low-end 13" this time, should suffice! Also just purchased iPhone 4 yesterday, god it's gorgeous!
