Order for 17" processing! C300 + 8gb RAM is en route as well.

I have never spent so much on a computer, wooooeee. Can't wait.

Just got new/refurb 15" 2.2 AG from Apple Store.

Not preinstalled with Lion, but did get the free upgrade to 8GB RAM.
I wonder if they are doing this for all refurbs not installed with lion.

Now what do I do with the 8GB of G-Skill I bought last week?

Sell it for a ridiculously reasonable price

Hey all,

I just ordered my 13.3" 2.7Ghz i7 Refurb from Apple, going to buy 8GB memory for it too.

Anything else I should get for it?

I debated on getting applecare, but I plan on ugrading ram and putting in my 120GB SSD so there's no point. If I buy applecare after those upgrades would it still be valid?

I just purchased a baseline 13 MBP from Best Buy, they price matched Apples student discount ($1099) and tossed in a $100 BB gift card. I'm a college student so the 18-month 0% interest was a great deal. I wish I could have afforded the 15 MBP due to the the extra real estate and the keyboard felt a bit more comfortable; but, it was simply out of my price range. I suppose my only worry is that they will drop a refresh late this year that really makes me regret purchasing now. Oh well the waiting tech game is a lose/lose.

As is I'm not a power user I just needed to replace my 3 year old dell as it was showing its age. The outstanding battery life was a key buying factor as I have class 6hrs a day. Really want to thank the community as a whole as I have been using the site for research for the past week.

Thanks.

How did you get free memory upgrade?

Hi guys,

Was seriously thinking about ordering this MBP 13.

http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/apple-macbook-pro-13-laptop-z0lyob-a-silver-10962114-pdt.html

Anyone form UK know if that's a decent price or of any other offers that are on the go just now?

I'm new to the mac world!

Maybe too late, but for God's sake don't buy it from Dixons - their customer service is useless. If you're not going to buy from Apple direct I'd try John Lewis - their customer service always gets praised and I think they do a (free?) extended warranty as well.

MacBook Pro or MacBook Air

Hello people!

I was thinking of purchasing a MacBook Pro, then again I saw the MacBook Air and it looks quite appealing. These are my options:

1. MacBook Pro 500Gb -$1342
2. MacBook Air 250Gb- $1749 or 128Gb - $1399

It's only for everyday use for University and work. What do you think is a better buy?

My first Mac

EST 5 to 7 Days.

2.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
256GB Solid State Drive
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Resolution Antiglare Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide

You know I will be coming here alot for help :)
I hope the search feature works great:rolleyes: for this newbe.

Just picked a 13 inch up from my university(got a free printer.) Anyway, it was an older model so it came with snow leopard instead of lion. I'm sort of worried about installing lion because I hear it has poor performance if you install it over leopard.

My new 15" MBP just shipped from China. I opted for the 15" glossy hi res screen and the 2.3ghz quad core chip. I had a antiglare from the Apple store, but it was warped on one side and did not sit level on the table!

Received my first Mac today; a 13" Macbook Pro, from Amazon.
Just playing around with it now, had to go to work just after I opened it this morning :p.

Really loving it, this keyboard is amazing compared to my previous Acer Laptop one.

I have not received any discs with my MBP, is that right? As i thought I would have some software discs packaged with it, or am I meant to create them? I have Lion Installed as standard.

Cheers!

The newest ones with Lion installed don't come with backup disks, when you want to reinstall you boot off a recovery partition on your HD which downloads the OS.

If you wanted to put Lion on another HD you would need to download this http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1433 then put it on a USB and boot off the USB, to install.

third mac, in love already

decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my early 2007 mbp last friday thanks to some unexpected overtime and ordered a new one along with creative suite (milking my education discount). expected delivery date was aug 30th and i got it yesterday! ended up going with a 15" 2.2 with the 500gb 7200rpm drive and the high-res anti-glare screen, along with an 8gn ram upgrade from crucial that happened to show up the same day.

oh my god i had no idea it'd be this much faster. wow looks like a whole different game and the high res makes the old one look like a child's toy. didn't bother putting lion on the other one, either, but now that i've started getting used to the 'natural' scrolling i quite like it and the added gestures as well. only time will tell if i don't start going into spaces withdrawals though.

oddly enough, i swear my old one knows. i went to back it up last night before selectively copying things and it died, refusing to reboot until i'd popped the battery and connected it to power even though it had been fully charged. ^^;

i can't wait to finally get to play assassin's creed. (and neither can my roommate; she's tired of being the only one playing and screaming 'up! omg what are you doing?!' at her screen.)

Oh right ok thanks, I'll cross that bridge when I get to it then. Just was worried I had not received any discs. I've installed 8 GB of Ram, Onwards and Macwards!

shipping question

Question for you all..

My MBP pro arrived at the local sort facility about 10 miles from my house at 6:30am this morning, yet my delivery date still says Tuesday. Simpletracking says it left the ramp at 7am. Is it not being delivered till Tuesday because Apple used some sort of shipping that doesn't deliver on Saturday or Monday, or is it not accurate at the moment? I'm leaving town Tuesday so I hope it comes in before then. I ordered 2-3 day shipping to protect myself in the event it got delayed.

Finally, my dream came true!

I was saving up for my first Mac during three years (student grants), and finally I got one! :)
(15" high-end MBP 2011 MC723LL/A )
"Official" :apple: stores in Russia have insane prices, ~1.5x more expensive than American!
I found one nice "grey" store and spent just 10% above normal price :p

The situation with unfair pricing policy occurs in a lot of countries, not only in Russia.
So, if you don't live in America and going to get a Mac,
just find a good grey store and save a lot of cash! ;)
But please be careful, choose the store wisely - some grey stores are fraud
(e.g. selling refurbished computers as the new ones)
Check the customer reviews of the store before purchase

P.S. About my warranty:
2-week from grey store & 1-year Apple worldwide

I've waited about five years to be able to post in this thread, but I finally ordered a new Mac! :p
I went for the Baseline 15" MBP with the hi-res matte screen.
I'm hoping this blows my Rev A CD Macbook out of the water! :D
I held off getting the DVI adapter yet, as they are pretty darned expensive. Has anyone had any experience with the third party adapters? Are they any good?

I've used third party hdmi, dvi and vga adapters for MDP, they all work great! Don't pay more than a couple bucks for DVI adapter.

Just ordered a 15 inch 2.2GHz Macbook Pro with Hi Res Glossy Screen (Don't do photo editing or anything so I love the glossy look). 8GB OWC Ram and 240 GB OWC Mercury Extreme Pro. Can't wait.

Proud Poster #6263!!!

Just moments ago I received my 15" MBP!

MBP 15.4/CTO
1
Part Number: Z0M1
With the following configuration:
•PROCESSOR 065-0092 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
•MEMORY 065-0094 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
•HARD DRIVE 065-0292 750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400
•OPTICAL DRIVE 065-0102 8x Double-Layer SuperDrive
•DISPLAY 065-0104 MBP 15" HR Glossy WS Display

Woot!! Super psyched to get it home and transfer my docs/apps to it from my 13"!

Happy man right here!

well i've had my MBP 13.3" for 2 days now. It came preinstalled with Lion. I've had a few teething problems (bootcamp wouldn't install 7 for some reason, then it had the windoze partition as the primary partition. So it wouldn't boot up.) Got that sorted then something else went wrong. Which i'm not sure what caused it & my MBP wouldn't even boot up.
This is when i got to use the online restore thing. It worked perfectly. So i've learnt from my mistakes with bootcamp (aka not gonna bother with 7 on my mbp).
Really can't fault Lion, really finding it a silky smooth system to use. REALLY happy with my MBP.

Received my new MacBook pro 13.3" i7 today. It came with lion preinstalled and the first and only thing I did with the original hard drive was create a lion recovery disk. Upgraded the drive to a Vertex 3 240gb ssd that I used in my Gaming PC. I am using the 500gb disk the macbook came with as an external drive.

Compared to Windows 7 the Vertex 3 is even more responsive in OS X. Applications start up instantly and the initial boot up takes only a couple seconds. The almost instant poweroff surprised me the first time. Enabled trim for the SSD with a script created by a user on the OCZ forum. Not sure if this is even required with the drive's built in garbage collector. I am still waiting on an 8gb Crucial ram kit to ship to finish the upgrades. So far I am very impressed with my first mac.
