I'm Over Spaces, Lion May Have Won Me Over with new MBP
So yesterday I received my refurbished MBP. It was the 15" 2.2ghz i7 from Feb 2011 with the Hi Res Anti glare display. I was under the assumption I would be getting Snow Leopard because I DID NOT want to upgrade to Lion. I would miss Spaces, some of my programs would not work, I didn't feel it was stable enough...but it had Lion instead...and I think I'm liking it now.
Spaces
Spaces is the main point of this post. At first I was with all the other devoted fans who wanted Spaces left intact in Lion. I read the forums with complaints. I believed everything.
My workflow revolves around spaces. I do webdesign and video editing. I have 4 spaces set up and I move on down the line with each space having a new program to help out in the process. With Lion, everything is linear now and has "desktops". So what I did was simply set up 8 Desktops. The first 4 desktops use professional applications and have shortcuts of CMD 1-4. Then I set up 4 more desktops for word processing and financials with shortcut keys of Option 1-4.
Since I can set up the shortcuts to be whatever keys I want, all I have to do is hit the shortcut and I go to that desktop. What's so bad about this? I know a lot of people have complained about how it works but for me if you can remember which desktop has the app you want, all you have to do is hit the key combination and you are there. I'm loving it. Plus each desktop has it's own background now so I know which part of the working phase I'm in. And if that's not enough, there is an option you can select that will not rearrange the desktops in linear order based off which one was used last.
So I guess I have to ask those who are not sold on Apple's Desktops, what do you feel is missing? Why don't you like it?
Other than that this computer is amazing. I can finally edit in high definition! And I'm slowly learning all the gestures. But then my happiness faded because I got the dreaded WIFI connectivity issues. Oh well, it's fixed for now. Just thought I'd share!
