Ordered last night

I just ordered my new macbook pro last night. I had a friend in Seattle who actually works for apple give me his discount and I am now a proud mac owner.

Its my first apple computer ever, and I'm really looking forward to it. Ive already got quite a few accessories such as the ram, a case, a bag, keyguard and others.

Thanks again to anyone in the forum who posted helpful information that let me decide on what i wanted.

Apple Refurbished

Ordered 15"Macbook Pro Glossy 4GB Memory 128 SSD 2.2 GHz i7 from Refurbished site.
Received 15" Glossy 8GB Memory and 256 SSD 2.2 GHz i7...... Happy :)

£550 cheaper then buying from high street store, but it did arrive by UPS in a plain white Box with no :apple:s on :D
These refurbished models seem brand new.

I just ordered the base 13". It was actually a late birthday gift. I'm in Taiwan and my ship date just says late November as of right now. I hope it gets here sooner. I put off the purchase until the update.

Today I finally picked up a MBP from the Apple store. Here's configuration I got:

2.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200RPM
8x Double-Layer SuperDrive
MBP 17" HR Anti-glare WS Display

I also ordered separately:

8GB Corsair RAM
256GB Crucial M4 SSD

I put the SSD and the RAM in and this thing screams! I've never used a computer this fast before. I'm definitely glad that I bought it in-store instead of ordering online (since I wanted the Highend 17" it wasn't an issue for me) because if I had to wait for it come in the mail and was constantly checking status updates I would probably have died by now ;).

Yesterday I upgraded my '10 MBP 15" to an early 2011 17".
Got a 260€ discount because of the fall refresh (totally worth it, the refreshed 17" is only 10% faster if you look at it), and I'm just loving it.

It's worth the upgrade from the 15". It's not really that bigger and the 1920x1200 screen res is awesome. Only 17" for me now. :D

And it's twice as fast as my "old" 15" (more if counting the 6750 vs Nvidia 330M...), so it was really a worthy upgrade. :D

No issues at all with my Crucial m4 (it worried me, as the first 17" quad core didn't play nice with 6 gbps SSD's...).

Still waiting for 8 Gb of Crucial RAM ;)

Had my base model MBP 13" for just over a month now and I'm LOVING it, it's just soooo quick at doing everything! Loving Mac OS X also also.

This is my first ever Mac and it won't be my last!!

Previous to that I had a Dell Inspiron 1525 (C2D) running Windows 7.

Had the same dell. What a piece of junk. Stopped charging and i had to send it in twice. Dell sure slipped as far as service goes. Never another Dell.

Got my new Macbook Pro yesterday from Amazon (no sales tax!) and I'm loving it so far. The multi-gestures, the screen resolution, HD FaceTime camera,... This is a great birthday gift upgrade from having no laptop.

I just came home with my refurbished 15" MacBook Pro. 4 GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive, 2.4 GHz processor. Running Snow Leopard. Yay! This replaces my 7-year-old iBook G4.

MacGeekAZ

I just got the same model, refurbished....

Here is my question - I bought the 15" (same specs above, MacBook Pro 5,1), with the intention of giving as a gift. I already own a 13" MacBook Pro - 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM (slightly newer, Mac Book Pro 7,1)

However, I am considering keeping the 15", although a bit older, because I like the idea of a slightly larger laptop (and yes, I can get away with this kind of 'gift', no worries).

From a technology standpoint, am I downgrading? I am thinking the technology is a wash, only 13" vs 15".. Thanks in advance

A long time Windows user:

I just recently hopped on the Apple bandwagon and I'm loving every bit of it. I got myself a 13" MBP (Early 2011) paired with a Kingston V+100 96GB SSD + 8GB of ram. I hated the way the PC industry ran its laptop line up. What lead me to the Mac was the well-thought out design of the Macbook Pro line, huge trackpad/gestures and its 7 hours battery life.

I came from a Lenovo 13" laptop which gets 3 hrs on a single charge. It came along with horribly supported drivers. Although the Mac has issues of its own, the benefits outweighs the flaws.

-Happy camper who will be getting an iPhone 4S soon.

Bought my first ever Mac two days ago.

I've been using Windows since 1995, and this July I wanted to see what Mac OS was like, so I turned my desktop into a hackintosh (I paid for SL and Lion). I love using Mac OS X and haven't touched Windows since.
So, upon desperately needing a laptop recently it was a no-brainer that I had to have a macbook.

After a week of umming and ahhing over whether to buy 13" or 15", second-hand, refurbished or new I eventually bought a new 15" Macbook Pro 2.2gHz (late 2011) base model for £1549 ($2480). They are so expensive here in the UK :(

Love the thing. Just trying to find a decent case/cover now to keep it in decent nick. Also need to find out where the best place is for me to buy an optibay adapter so I can fit my Crucial M4 128Gig SSD :)

The waiting...

... is brutal.

I've got a 17" MBP on the way. I've been obsessively tracking the package. Even going so far as to track FedEx flights on flightaware.com. It's currently in Anchorage, AK after International Shipment Release occurring about three hours ago.

I know it wont be here until Tuesday but its fun to track and try to figure out which flight it may be on.

Ill keep plugging around on my MacBook1,1 until then.

Your not alone there! i will sit and constantly refresh the page to see where the package is LoL

ordered a 13" refurb 2.3ghz i5 last night for my GF. She's coming from a PC and I'm sure she'll be excited as an early graduation gift.
got it and gave it to her tuesday. she already said she will not go back to a PC. :D

Well, so help me but I just ordered a baseline MBP 13" with Applecare at HE rates.

I was very, very tempted by the Air but could not quite bring myself to make do with the 128GB version and could not begin to justify the cost of the 256GB version instead. Not to mention even the baseline 13" version is a bit more than the Pro.

I don't actually start any further studies until Feb (UK OU so I'm an effing part timer ) so will have plenty of time to learn my way around the new system.

Just ordered a refurbished 15" Early-2011 MacBook Pro i7 2.3GHz with a high-res, anti-glare screen and 1GB GPU.

It should arrive next week, needless to say I'm excited! This will probably transition to be my main machine from my older 2009 24" iMac.

It finally came! First MacRumors post from the new 17" MBP.

Upgraded the RAM to 8GB before I even turned it on for the first time. Working on transferring all my data right now.

-Ben

Got my 2nd 17" MBP today along with an M4 SSD. Absolutely loving it, and also felt that the Internet Lion Recovery was pretty painless also!

Just need to whack 16GB in this bad boy. :D

Still waiting (sadly) but in the meantime I bought some dust plugs for the ports, a keyboard cover, vyper XS3 for protection, and an iKlear cleaning kit. I'm all set....I just need my macbook pro!

Extra RAM?

Received my refurb 17" 2.2 MBP - anti-glare / Feb 2011 / (500GB @ 7200) yesterday, after a bit of a delay on the UPS side of things, and it looks like it's a good thing I waited for my purchase before putting in my RAM order.

Checking the config last night, I notice it has come equipped with 8GB of RAM (2x4). I'm fairly sure the standard configuration for this is 4GB (2x2), so...WOO HOO! :)

Oh, for those that care, I was waiting for this specific specification to become available on the Refurb site, and I snagged it Oct 31, and it looks like it was the last one. I've not seen this specific model being listed again in the Refurb site, so I think maybe I dun good. :)

Cheers!

Well, the little spec bump has finally tempted me back into the MacBook Pro fray! My last machine is a 2007 2.4GHz C2D with 4GB 667MHz RAM. I love it to bits, but it gets so hot and feels a bit sluggish. I'd been using a handed-down Rev A MBA and, due to the SSD, it had been 'feeling' much faster for work.

I've ordered the top end 15" BTO, so 2.5GHz i7 with 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and high-res glossy. Now it's all just the waiting!
