Congratulations, you'll love it. I love my MacBook Pro, and wouldn't trade it for any other computer. Once you go Mac, you'll never go back. What kinds of accessories are you going to buy for the thing? Carrying cases? Notebook stands? Monitors?

I have a 19" monitor I use with this current computer, but I'll need a MiniDisplay to VGA for that. I hope to end up getting the Thunderbolt display but it'll be a while before I get that.

Congratulations! Since you have already owned a mac, i dont need to tell you what a great piece of engineering it is. I've seen so many people calling us fanboys, and i am proud to be one. It takes a great deal of effort and innovation from a company to command such loyalty from its users and Apple deserves every bit of it. As SJ said for the ipad, i believe it to be true for every single apple product, 'it just works'!

And no, I dont work for Apple :D

Shipping companies these days are too unpredictable in their movements. Don't be surprised if it doesn't arrive until after your expected delivery date. My latest purchase from the Apple Store Online went through two shipping exceptions and suffered connection delays - just a nightmare if you ask me.

But anyway, congrats on your upgrade. :D

Congrats! Now some must haves for your brand new MBP:

- keyboard/screen sham (I bought a ShaggyMac) to protect your screen from keyboard marks
- Booq case (hard case to carry your mac), this is the one I have and I love it
- Apple Magic Mouse (pretty self-explanatory)

When buying one of the refurb MBP's from the Applestore, does it come in "like new" condition or will it have scratches, dents or other cosmetic issues?

Does the Magic Mouse have physical clicking or is it just a touch click?

Also, I can't stand cases/covers when they're on such beautiful devices.

Yes, it has a mechanical click and don't worry about the case, it's not a shell case that will hide the beauty of your Mac. It's just a case that you'll use to store your Mac when you're done working/playing on it.

I have some questions for anyone who can help please? I just received my upgrades I plan to put in my MacBook Pro 15" late 2011 model and needed to know the best way to install them.

8GB Ram - Amazon.com: Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600 Memory Module (CT2KIT51264BC1339): Computers & Accessories

SSD - Amazon.com: Crucial 256 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT256M4SSD2: Electronics

Can I just install both the RAM and SSD at the same time? Also what is the best way to reinstall the OS? I've read somewhere that I could just install the SSD and the OS will reinstall itself via internet after it detects the new SSD. Just want to make sure if this is correct or do I need to make a DVD backup right now with the original HDD? I haven't really installed anything on the original HDD except Adobe Flash so I'm not worried about losing anything.

Finally my last question is what is the easiest way for me to get my songs from my Ipod transferred onto my new MBP/SSD? Thank you in advanced to anyone who can provide help/advice it would be greatly appreciated.

just ordered macbook pro 15" 2.5 i7, hi-res antiglare
2x crucial m4 512's
16gb ram
optibay kit
external enclosures for the internal and optical drive

:-D

Just got myself a Late 2011 core i5 Macbook Pro 13 a few days ago.

Couldn't be more happier.

Temperatures seem fine too!! CPU sitting at 40C with youtube, iTunes, 5 web tabs open and 5 more apps.

Beautiful machine. Really fast compared to my 2010 MBP.

Just got myself a Late 2011 core i5... Really fast compared to my 2010 MBP.

I'm still running a MBP 5,1 (late 2008), I'm actually happy with it.. but its kind of sluggish when I have VMWARE open. I'm thinking of upgrading to the quadcore late 2011 MBP. It's interesting that the i5 is that much faster than your 2010 machine.. I'm guessing I'll see even better performance increase.

Last week I ordered a refurbished 13" MBP (Early 2011) with i5, 320GB HDD. It arrived 2 days ago. Ordered 8GB ram and an SSD for it that should come later this week. So today I go to check my macbook's specs and find out that it has a i7 processor with 500GB HDD instead:D. Don't know how that happened, but am not going to complain;). Love it so far and it stays pretty cool.

score!

i've heard of refurb orders getting quiet upgrades.

Does anyone know why my graphics vram is 512MB? I thought the Early 2011 models were supposed to have 384MB.

Mine was like new, only difference it came in a cardboard box without the apple logo/advertising on. (same design box as new machines just no logo's)
Also it had been upgraded to what was advertised, with more memory.

bought my 15" macbook pro 2.4Ghz yesterday evening and im really in love with it! I hope there isnt a new model out any time soon though

edit:
brand spanking new

I am a PC owner that has been kicking around the idea of getting a MacBook Pro for some time now to have a good laptop for coding because my current laptop is a rather large and clunky 17" Acer from 2008. It still performs decently but the size and battery life is horrible(30 minutes max) so it is impractical to take anywhere.

Long story short... I saw that Apple had free shipping and that I could get the MBP before Christmas so I decided to go ahead and take the plunge.

I am a first time mac owner(and user for that matter) so I am pretty excited to get started on one. I currently have a pretty good Desktop (2600k @ 4.3 with 2x GTX 580s) so I decided to get the base line 15" with the standard screen. I fully intend on grabbing an 8GB Crucial RAM kit soon and may even add a SSD down the line.

I should have the MBP within a day or two.

Just put in an order. :)

Originally released February 2011
13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 1280-by-800 resolution
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
320GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM

Going to upgrade to 16gb ram as soon as I get it in my hands.
I think I'll stick to the HD for now and upgrade to SSD later on when 480gb prices drop down to a more economically viable price.

I'm leaving behind a lifelong use of PC. I'll be using this MBP for work and video editting. I can't wait! :)
