OP: Thanks for sharing all this with us and being cooperative and patient with the curious among us. :)

Thank you! I'm glad to share. I'm having fun here, and I've asked tons of questions of new Mac owners, too. :)

I don't think that I'll take the machine apart, though. I'll leave that for iFixit. :D

Congratulations !

Being the first is always fun.

Nice array of pictures.

Glad they had it in stock.

Enjoy your New Mac, there's nothing better :)

Thank you! I know it's silly, but it was kind of fun getting one of the first. :) I saw the 2 to 3 week wait time online, and I thought that it's the retail store for me on this one.

I ordered pretty quickly yesterday as well, but didn't get my confirmation until today. Still at processing. I suspect it's because i chose spanish keyboard.

I would say that it's significantly better regarding glare. I've got the kitchen lights on above me and its not bothering me. I hadn't even noticed the glare until you mentioned it in your post. I think that Apple was able to remove one of the glass layers (or something like that). It's certainly better than my iMac. :)

Odd, but I don't see an option in Display preferences to list the available resolutions in the menu bar.

Awesome, that's great to hear!

One more question:are you using VMware/Parallels to run Windows 7? If so, please let's know how that looks on the Retina display.

Thanks again, and enjoy your new machine!

I thought that the scrolling might be laggy at first, but I switched the prefs to only use the high performance graphics, and scrolling is great now.

If you have to use the discrete graphics chip to make the scrolling not-laggy, it is going to kill your battery life. Expect 4 hours instead of 6-7.

Sorry for going off-topic with the thread,

I live in Dallas, and there's none to be found in this area. I just called the FT. Worth store and was informed to call back this week. I saw that you are from the area and was wondering if there was anymore available?

Just picked mine up at the Houston Galleria store. They had 11 when I was picking mine up, but 5 other people were also purchasing as I left.

Yippee, yesterday's announcement knocked down the price of the refurbished Early 2011 MBP by £140. Ordered.

Quad-core i7 with 7 hour battery life is going to be a hell of an upgrade from my early 2008 C2D with approximately 12 minutes remaining battery life.

!!

Jealous. None in Austin

Which models did they have? Did they have the maxed out version with 16gb RAM?

Highland Village had 3 this morning, all max config
Willowbrook had 1 this morning, base
Galleria had 13 total, a mix.

The Galleria got them in the morning but held them until 1:30

They had two of the upgraded models. Two other guys were in there to get the base models, but I got there first. The rep made it sound like they got in a bunch, but she said that she only had one base model. (Maybe I wasn't the first retina buyer in the store like she'd said). They are going to carry the base 2199, the upgraded 2799, and the maxed out version for 3749 in the store.

When it's set to the "Best for Retina", I don't feel that I have to zoom in. When it's at the highest resolution, things are pretty tiny, but still sharp. I haven't played much with that setting, but it does give you a lot of screen real estate.

Doh ... so I saw this message and walked out the door down to the Apple store in San Francisco.

They said they got in a handful this morning and it sold out in minutes. They had mostly base models and only a few upgraded. The upgraded ones they had were not fully upgraded. It was like more memory or larger drive but not both.

I would appreciate some advice from you experts! I have a 5 year old macbook, it served me well and now I want to get a new one. My question is would I be better off getting the last gen 15 in Pro or the new 13 inch pro. Which one is the better computer? I see a lot of hate for the new 13 inch on here and I honestly dont understand most of it because I know nothing about computers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This scares me.

Are you saying the standard discrete graphics has laggy scrolling ALL THE TIME? Or just occasionally? Have you tried the trackpad update?

The lagging is only occurring when the display is scaled.

When using the default settings, there is no lag.

I would get either the last gen 15" (about $1400 on the refurb store) or the new 13" Air.

The 13" Air for $1199 is a really great value. You can bump it up to 8GB of RAM and it goes to $1299. It also has a high res display (1440x900, the same as the 15" Macbook Pro).

The 13" Macbook Pro has a low resolution screen and only a slightly better processor than the Air. The Air will be faster in most day to day tasks because of the fast solid state storage.

If you really need the features of the Macbook Pro over the Air (DVD drive, self-upgradeable RAM, faster graphics chip) then get the last get 15" from the refurb store.

Arrg. Note to self, next time just get 2-3 day shipping. Seems like people who did are getting theirs shipped sooner. Mine's still processing :p
