same for a developer?

I would get either the last gen 15" (about $1400 on the refurb store) or the new 13" Air.

The 13" Air for $1199 is a really great value. You can bump it up to 8GB of RAM and it goes to $1299. It also has a high res display (1440x900, the same as the 15" Macbook Pro).

The 13" Macbook Pro has a low resolution screen and only a slightly better processor than the Air. The Air will be faster in most day to day tasks because of the fast solid state storage.

If you really need the features of the Macbook Pro over the Air (DVD drive, self-upgradeable RAM, faster graphics chip) then get the last get 15" from the refurb store.

would that be a good suggestion for one who's primarily a java programmer by day? i'll be running a java based app server on it, Eclipse, etc...vs heavy graphics apps. much appreciated.

Thanks for the images so far, but do you think you could do a closer up shot of the different resolutions so we can get an idea of the crispness. The ones now only really show the amount of screen real estate.

I agree, at the highest "More Space" settings, does it reduce clarity at all or is it crisp as ever but with a smaller interface?

One thing would be storage space, since the Air only has 128GB by default unless you go to the high end model.

It should be plenty powerful for Java programming unless you were doing really large compiles.

The 13" MBP has a slightly better processor, but the 15" is a big jump in processing power since it's quad core. If you're going to be running an app server in the background that might be nice.

this is a definite in most cases...gotta test out the code...:)

i appreciate ur prompt reply. now my question is one of the refurb oct 2011's or the newer's. almost overwhelming.

This scares me.

Are you saying the standard discrete graphics has laggy scrolling ALL THE TIME? Or just occasionally? Have you tried the trackpad update?

It might be the trackpad update because I installed it after my first impression of the scrolling. Since the update, I haven't noticed any lag.

Yep, I would go with quad core in that case. I think that the 2011 refurb for $1359 is a pretty good deal.

Mine still says that it's processing. I did customize it so it's probably in their custom shop at foxconn. Assuming there are no strikes or riots heh.

$1529? That should have been $1359.

Actually $1390 before GST, the 2.0 Ghz is $1379 though after GST.

I am purchasing this from the aussie store aswell, not the us, so it's a little more for myself. Got an education discount on applecare however which was nice.

Just sold my Oct. 2011 17" MBP with SSD and 16gb of ram... Sad to see it go, but...

Just ordered a base model retina MBP with 16gb of ram and pocketed some extra cash :D Might have to order another Cinema Display if I can sell my old 24" one...

Only problem is the delivery date... Ships in 3-4 WEEKS  I'm going to be suffering with my mac mini until it gets here :(

Where did you sell it? Trying to sell my current one too.

Why on earth did the moderator merge the thread started by somebody who purchased the new retina MBP with this one?

A separate discussion about the new machine was perfectly valid and is completely lost in this thread now.

Was wondering the same damn thing...this thread was specific to the retina display.

Well, just ordered my new computer! Replaces dead 2008 mac pro.

15 rMBP
2.7 + 16gb ram

Only have to wait another month.
Anybody know if that's completely accurate? Has anyone received iPhones/iPads way ahead of the estimated delivery time?
