I'm happy to hear such good reviews about this model. I ended up ordering one tonight. It will be my first mac ever. I also did not care for a 13" retina macbook. I'm excited and can't wait to see it at my front door :D

Same here. Went from mid 2009 2.53Ghz to 2012 2.9Ghz. I'm pretty blown away by the performance increase.

I'm also about to take the leap from a 09 2.53, but to a RMBP 2.6. While I loved the 13" form factor when I first got the MB, I soon wished for just a little more desktop space. I'm also excited because this 15" RMBP is also lighter than my 13
" MB.

my macbook pro was shipped on june 15th, but so far I have no tracking number and apple can not tell me why...
I tried to track it on flextronics, but either I do not understand the results or there's nothing to understand ...
can anyone help me understand the status of my shipment? (see screenshots)

status is currently: in transit to customer - shipment on schedule

Been busy setting up my MBPR after getting it ~27 hours ago. My HTPC is a total mess  This is my second Mac.

Far left = desktop (Core 2 Duo "Wolfdale" 3GHz, 4GB DDR2-1000, R4870 1GB, 80GB+1TB)
Top = 42" 1080p TV for the desktop... for now
Bottom left = Fujitsu FMV-BIBLO LOOX U50X/V, circa 2007 (Intel A110 800MHz, 1GB DDR2-667*, 10" 1024 x 600 convertible, 32GB SSD w/ Vista)
Bottom center = iPhone 4S white 64GB
Bottom right = CTO MBPR (IvB-quad 2.7Ghz, 16GB DDR3-1600, GT 650M 1GB, 512GB SSD; 160GB for Win 7 bootcamp)

Finished migrating iTunes (huge pita) from the desktop, now for the Windows games  :)

My First Impressions / Review on YouTube

Hi guys. If anyone's interested, I created a video for my new 2012 MBP with Retina display. Some technical information is included.

NEW 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina display review in HD!

From the description: This is my first video for the NEW 2012 Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display, with side by side comparison of a 2011 MacBook Pro. What makes this new laptop so great? Watch and find out!

Cheers!

I'm waiting for my first Mac ever to arrive

It should be here on Thursday, I'm so excited!

Just an option for you:

You should (I would) return that and put in your own SSD.

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-2-5-I...1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340218956&sr=8-1&keywords=m4

You could get this for the same price as your upgrade and have double the storage. Or go second hand and get an even better deal when you come across it.

Edit: Funny, 2 seconds after I copied the link to this the price went down another $2. :D Also just noticed the 512GB is only $399. WOW!!!

Got the 2.53 with 2-3 day shipping .... hope it arrives by Friday :D

I've been patiently waiting for three weeks when I spilled water on my old macbook (may it rest in peace) and insurance reimbursed me.

Anyone else order one?

What kind of insurance did you have on it that covered spills? Thanks

First time mac user and soooo excited!

I'm so done with Windows, my old Sony VAIO lasted 8 yrs, not too bad. Decided to get the new 13" MBP base model last week, loving it!!!:D I thought I received a defective machine as the optical drive was noisy at boot up but found it was normal after listening to sound clips on the web and visiting an Apple store.

Upgraded the following yesterday:
- 500 GB to a Samsung 256 GB SSD
- Optical drive slot to a 750 GB 7200 rpm (Seagate GoFlex my prev. backup drive).
- Installed Optical drive into external enclosure, No more noisy Optical drive at boot up!
- Replaced 4 GB for 8.

Boot time went from 1 min. 13 sec. to 10 sec.! Well, after adding 2nd HD it's now 20 sec.:p

Forgot to mention I like the MBP over the Air because the Air has the trim around the outer edge (like my old Sony VAIO). The MBP display is all glass to the edges like the iphone and ipad, very nicely done Apple!

rMPB

I just ordered the rMBP 2.7GHz/16GB RAM/768GB Flash Storage =$4Gs

Now i just wait and hope it was worth it...(No defects!!!)

Ordered a rMBP. 2.6/16/512.

I had ordered the base model last week, but I decided I wanted to up the RAM and Harddrive, so I had to cancel and reorder. Delivery is now estimated July 19th to 25th.

Can't wait for it. My Mid '09 MBP is looking long in the tooth... Plus the screen is screwed up.

Thanks for the review

Place my order last night for my first Apple PC not counting a very brief month or so eight years ago. Picked up a 2011 refurb 2.2ghz. The main thing I liked about the new ones was USB 3 but that's not work $500. Discover is going 5% back so got it for $1291, made it a lot easier to get wife approval at that amount. Should be here Saturday.

Help please, which one??????????

Hey everyone !

I am gonna go with a 17" mbp refurb off their site but ebay also has one:

17" Apple i7 Macbook Pro 2.4GHz 8gb 750GB 7200RPM NEW RELEASE 10/24/2011

OR-

Apple store online:

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.5GHz Quad-core Intel i7
4gb 750GB 5400rpm Oct.2011

Which one is faster more capable to handle lots of music / graphics?

Thanks..

Decals!

My other post about decals was an IKEA glass protector fiberboard with pen lines to approximate the size of a 15" MBP, then doing the sticker layouts. This time it's for real.

Skip the text below unless you want to know :p

Sticker sources:
  • Project DIVA 2nd PSP Accessory set (already used the Luka sticker on my PSP)
  • Goodsmile Racing sticker sets x 2, 2010 version
  • Mikupa (3/9 2011) sticker set (part of a book's insert)
  • Niconico Douga CD sticker insert
Top right section is blank; I'm saving that for whatever stickers from the Project DIVA -f- (PS VITA) Accessory set that will fit.

When the room lights are turned off, the Apple logo lights up the zettai ryouiki.
:)

The ebay version is slightly better, but the difference is very small, since you can upgrade both the RAM and storage on either.

If you're not replacing any parts, however, the ebay one is better, but again only slightly.

There is no way I would spend that kind of cash on eBay, way to many things that could go wrong. From getting ripped off to getting a grey market PC that Apple won't cover warranty wise. Either buy from Apple or a reputable reseller.

Agreed

Placed my order yesterday and shipped today, I should have it by mid next week. I went with the late 2011 2.2Ghz refurb. It's going to replace my Late 2006 refurb blackbook, from the tests it should be about 3.5-4x's faster. I don't need the usb 3, though it would be nice to have it is not worth the extra $500

Thanks everyone !!

I appreciate the insight I will stay with my gut feeling and first choice which is to stay loyal to Apple because if something goes wrong with it Apple will stand behind me and break my fall so to speak!

I will likely remove the hhd and replace with an ssd, use the hhd as an external back up and yeah - wanna upgrade ram to 16gb too, that is possible right up to 16gb?!!!???! So excited, still far away from saving up enough for the refurb. Can employee's get discounts off of that model too if so LUCKY them, I should work for Apple, I'm really passionate about producing my albums with the 17" model, well macbooks period !

Just like so many other people here I just pulled the trigger to order my first private macbook pro 15" non-retina.

Upgraded the cpu to the 2.7, high res glossy and 750GB 7200rpm HD.

So im all excited and in time (probably soon ish) I will add 16 or 32GB of memory and potentially a SSD, see how I go.

Anyway since I have about 24 years of windows experience and knowlegde professionally and about... 6 months combined real OSX knowledge :p

I might come back with some basic how to / where to questions in the next following weeks ;)

Thanks guys!
