cpu upgrade 17" mbp?

Hey is there a way to upgrade the cpu of the Oct 2011 unibody quad core 17" mbps?

Received my 15" refurb yesterday:

MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Quad-core Intel i7
Originally released October 2011
15.4-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 1440-by-900 resolution
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
500GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Intel HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 6750M

It is a beauty of a machine. Looks and works as brand new; I can't tell at all that it is a refurb. Very impressive, Apple.

I promptly backed up Lion, and installed Snow Leopard. Wonderful!

FYI, Snow Leopard runs like a top on this late 2011 model using the install disk from the early 2011 model.

My next purchase will be 16GB RAM. :)

Cheers.

It's been a long wait, but I finally rewarded myself for finishing my exams with a mid-2012 13" i5 MBP with a 500GB HDD and 8GB RAM for college.

Now excuse me while this happy camper goes off to update his signature... :)

Only problem is the delivery date... Ships in 3-4 WEEKS  I'm going to be suffering with my mac mini until it gets here :(
I'm using a 2007 MacBook while I wait, having just sold my 2011 MBP, so I feel your pain.

rMBP

Called the Apple store yesterday and told me they had a "few" in. Cleaned the house, did some blogging and web designing, ran errands and stopped by the store to pick up my base model rMBP. Wow! It was busy there for a Thursday!
I am loving it much more than my 13inch MBP. Wished that I'd have gotten the 15 earlier.
I don't regret this purchase and thank you to husband for approving this purchase although he's told me on many, many occasions that he wishes the apple store would go out of business. :D

Can't help it I'm a gadget girl. I love my shiny toys!!

2 concerns I have regarding your post:

1) Your husband needs to wake up in this century. No lady needs her husband to be "approving" a purchase

2) Apple doesn't make "toys" they make advanced technological devices for the
masses ( the common man and woman)

You sound like you never have been in a solid long term relationship, living together, married and or so on.

the price a new macbook has makes it a small investment. Few people in a relationship just goes out to spend $3000-$4000 without talking to their partner about it.

Completely agreed. My refurb was only $1400 but if I didn't discuss it with my wife first I'd had some serious issues. When your in a long term relationship you have to discuss things that impact the household such as large purchases. What a large purchase is will certainly vary but $3k is going to be one for 90%+ of US households.

On a side note my notebook is out for delivery. I have to work today and my wife is working nights so I hope she hears the doorbell when the FedEx man comes or I'll be waiting until Monday for a redelivery.

Dude, it's out of respect. Get a life, or rather, get a wife. I consult the "boss" on all my purchases. She never says no, but I'd rather have it green-lighted then have a senseless spat about a material item.
I am thankful my wife is not a gadget freak. I would be totally broke.

The number one cause of divorce in America is money problems. Anyone who isnt discussing large purchases with their husband or wife is doing their marriage a huge disservice.

Just got home with one of the new 2012 13" MBPs. :3 Love it so far. Second mac I've gotten this year, after my switch from windows.

The 'boss' LOL. :D

I call my wife the same thing when making big purchases. I have to consult the 'boss' first.

I am thankful my wife is understanding on why I like Apple products. It also helps that I run my business on them. I have around 40+ MBP's, imacs, Mac Pros's, Mac Mini's, for my business, all between 2010 and 2012 model years. If I buy something for the business that is a separate expense. A business expense, she is also a accountant and says what goes, what is best for the business.

Never argue with a Accountant over finances, never. Especially if that Accountant is your wife. You will lose. Or have the biggest headache ever. :(

Well I got my refurb MBP. I missed the delivery and had to play phone tag with the FedEx driver but finally meet up with him. Major props to him for going to the extra mile, I would have had to wait until Tuesday if he didn't. First impressions is the build quality is amazing. The notebook is extremely slick, going to have to keep a tight grip of this guy. The OS is going to take some getting used to. After 20 years of Windows it certainly is a change. If I download one more webpage by hitting option+enter I am going to go insane!(CTL+ENT in Windows places www and com on your typed web address) Loving it so far. Tonight with be SSD install and 8GB RAM upgrade so haven't done much with it yet but surf the web.

If anyone is interested, B&H photo is offering a new base late 2011 Macbook Pro 15 for 1469 with free shipping and no tax outside of New York. It was actually cheaper than Apple's refurbished model when Texas tax is accounted for. I ordered mine on this Wednesday and it should arrive on next Tuesday.

I didnt want to start another thread about this so hopefully I can get some helpful insights.

according to my tracking information my RMBP is at a local fedex station right now, anyway I can call them tomorrow morning for me to just pick it up myself instead of waiting until Wednesday for them to deliver it? Because tomorrow is the only day that im free and the whole week I'll be out of the house from 9am-11pm.

Anybody done this before?

Thanks in advance!

They should let you do that no problem. Just call the 800 number and they should be able to set that up.

That said....if it is at your local depot now then they are most likely going to put it on the truck for delivery tomorrow.

Just ordered a new rMBP (2.6Ghz, 512GB, 16GB).
I don't know if I can wait very long, I hope that 3-4 week wait is an over-generous guess.

Now all I have to do is wait until Wednesday!

A bit late, but I ordered a rMBP (2.6GHz, 512GB, 16GB) on release day. It was delivered on the 18th.

Oh my god. Did you actually stick all that **** on your MBP?

That looks absolutely hideous.

If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say it at all.

I'm not saying that's what I would do to my own MacBook, but that's his own choice and he clearly likes it, so what's the point of your post?

Some people just lack basic manners.

Just ordered my first Mac! I picked out the base 13in MBP and upgraded the ram to 8gb. With my student discount I saved $100 but the ram upgrade was $90, so all in all it works out great in my eyes. Can't wait to use this bad boy, it just shipped!

According to my tracking info my RMBP was supposed to come in on Wednesday, but today I woke up to find out this was already in my doorstep! GREAT day to start the week!

Base RMBP with 16gb ram. :D:D
