I just bought the base model rMBP this weekend. My daughter gets to take the 2010 MBP to university this Fall. I didn't read the previous pages, but do I get the new OS for free when it comes out?

Yep you get it free and can install it on both your 2010 MBP and RBMP through the app store.

got my MBPr!

went to the glendale galleria & picked up the maxed out version with 2.7ghz, 16gb RAM & 768 flash storage. i called in the morning and they had limited stock. rushed over there and got it! very excited. its beautiful! can't wait to sit down and test it out.

I got my shipping notice on the 24th of July and I should have it by the 30th. I've been checking my tracking number every couple of hours but my rMBP has been stuck in China for the last 24 hours :| The anticipation is killing me.

I decided on the processor debate (.3 vs 6/7) and ram debate (8 v 16), just ordered rMBP 2.7, 512, 16, very happy and hope it lasts as long as my previous machine (5 years old and still going (moderately) strong!).

Cheers,

H

I ordered mine trough a apple certified store on 24.07.2012. Its a rMBP 2.7GHZ, 512GB, 16GB RAM. While on apple switzerland it stays 1-2 weeks, the store told me, we better say 3-4 weeks, coz we can never know for sure. Well i hope i get mine as soon as possible...

New to Mac

Hi gang... Long time lurker, first time poster here :D I haven't used an Apple computer since the old Apple II GS I had when I was growing up.

I was on the fence about buying a MacBook Pro since last fall. I've used Windows for so long, and put up with so many issues over the years, I had just gotten used to the problems it had, and even came to accept it as normal  (BSOD, system freezing for 2+ minutes at random, etc.)

My coworker let me try out his (Early 2011) 15" MBP a few times, and I fell in love with it more each time I looked at it.

I took my time researching them and listening to feedback here on the forums before making my final decision today. I was torn between the cMBP and the rMBP, but ultimately decided to get the cMBP with the 2.6 GHz processor, the High-Res anti-glare screen and the 7200 RPM 750GB hard drive. Current delivery estimates show it should arrive between Aug. 1 and Aug. 3.

I'm so excited to get my first Mac!

First, welcome to MacRumors, we're glad to have a new switcher among us!

And second, great choice on the machine, that's a great Mac to start out on. You'll be able to upgrade it in the future and hopefully it'll last you as long as my PowerBook G4 did (8 years).

Just got my RMBP 2.6/16/768 after about 6 weeks wait - I ordered about 2 days after release. But this is Australia and I ordered through a reseller.

No complaints about the screen after coming from a 15" HRAG model.

Love the machine - now waiting for the ML up-to-date email.

Wow!

Ok, so I got my 2.6/16/512 rMBP today and this thing is just smoking fast!!! I do get lag on facebook, but thats a horribly coded website and lags on all of my macs. Macrumors scrolls crazy fast! I did a USB3 drive test. 60MB/s write x 78MB/s Read....that is very good for a portable 5400rpm drive! Very impressive! I played some 1080p movies off the portable USB3 drive and they load up instantly and play perfectly. Very cool! I can't wait to really dig into this thing!

The microphone on this thing must be really good. I've been using the voice dictation feature on Mountain lion all day today and it hasn't really missed a beat. It's actually better than my iPhone.

I'm installing windows bootcamp, so I went back to my MBA for the time that its loading....WOW! I can really tell the difference in the screen now!

Somehow this thing seems to run windows even better than Mac!

I was getting worried while I waited, reading all the negativity on this board that I had made a mistake. Spending today with this beast of a machine, now I realize I did not. This thing is amazing! I don't understand all the hate. Is it just coming from people that don't have one?

Running a few games proves this thing is a beast! Max Payne 3 at 1920x1200 with high settings and dx11 runs beautifully!

Macbook Pro 13 2012

Hello... my first official post and my first MacBook Pro post as well here!

After having an iPad and iPhone in recent years and yes.... ugh... many laptops as well, i decided to make the switch and move to a Mac. I wanted something portable and light so i chose the 13 inch macbook pro.

So far........ i have LOVED it compared to my acer laptop that recently "died"

Since my main tasks are word processing, 3D design and some light gaming (anyone here play civ4?), this laptop handles all my needs.

I haven't yet upgraded to mountain lion, but i will come my next pay, in the meantime I'm very happy with what ive got and look forward to contributing here on the forums as well.

Thanks :)

Why are you buying mountain lion it's free as long as you bought it after June 11, 2012. Since 2012 macbookpros were only announced after that, get it free from apple via the "upto date program".

New to Mac

I've always loved PC but finally made my first Mac Purchase. Last week I bought a rMBP 15". I really just wanted the speed, and I liked the SSD. I don't care for the retina display, but I purchased it because the non retina optioned with the SSD was more expensive. So far, since the ML update I am loving it. I was ready to return it for sluggishness, but updated to ML when it was released and it fixed everything. As soon as I got my up-to-date code I was able to get credit for my early ML purchase.

I finally made the purchase. I debated between the 2012 MBP 13 base 1999 or the 2011 MBP 15 1359.

After much debate i weighed the pros and cons of both machines.

I chose the Late 2011 MBP 15 refurbished.

The quad core and the dedicated graphics were the main factors of my decision.

16gb of ram and a ssd are in the future plans.

I have had 2011 MBA 13 and an iMac in the past, and the MBP 15 feels like a very nice happy medium between the two.

so, one thing I've noticed, is that this screen kinda ruins all other screens. Looking back at my 24" dell display now, it looks HORRIBLE! How long till we get a 27" retina????

Yep, that's how I feel. My 24" monitors on my desktop look terrible now. My old MacBook Pro looks ancient compared to this screen.

And I don't know how long it'll be til a 27" Retina screen, but the current Thunderbolt display is 2560x1440 so to make it retina it'll have to be 5120x2880. That's a lot of pixels, so I dunno if we'll see it any time soon.

I know, its sad! This is how all computers should look! Apple once again not living by the trends but setting them!!

At the proper distance, a 27" Thunderbolt display excellent clarity.

It will be some time before we see a 27" Retina display.

My Experience/Findings Using a Retina Macbook Pro (A Positive Story)

As an incoming freshman to college I was trying to find the perfect laptop for my schooling needs.

After originally purchasing a Macbook Air I decided that the lower color gamut was just not for me.

So I shifted my search to the 15" Macbook Pro as its increased color gamut was appealing. Originally I passed over the rMPB because after reading this forum I was concerned about all the flaws my machine would have upon opening the box.

So today I entered the Apple Store ready to purchase a cMBP when out of curiosity I asked the person assisting me if they had any Base 2.3/8/256 rMPB's in stock. Lo and behold they had two.

I decided to take the plunge and purchased one, expecting to open it up to find a yellow tinted screen, ghosting, dead pixels, cosmetic damage to the casing, etc. Upon opening the box (Apple really needs to pad that box some more in the future), I found zero of the issues listed above.

Now lag was another concern for me, after testing out Mission Control (Spaces) in both the store's cMBP's and rMPB's I noticed the occasional appearance of lag on both of them however slightly more so on the Retina. I am going to attribute this to that Kiosk Software Apple installs on all of its in store computers. On the rMPB I am typing from now I do notice the occasional bout of lag (yes, I am running on Mountain Lion) but I find it to be extremely minimal.

Overall, I am loving this computer and loving the reduced weight it provides from the cMBP. Apple can consider me one satisfied customer!
