I will be getting my Retina Mac Book Pro this week (Thursday or Friday).

I was wondering should I do an upgrade to Mountain Lion or do a clean install with it?

Also I hope I don't run into the yellow tint/ghosting/dead pixel situation.

This will be my first Mac.

Aside from this I will be installing Windows 7 on it for school. :)

The specs:
2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
768GB Flash Storage

Thank you in advance. :)

What order should I use - migrate 1st or upgrade?

Received my beautiful new Macbook Pro - 15" retina - and am pretty excited. Confused, though, whether to upgrade to Mountain Lion 1st and THEN migrate my files or migrate them 1st and THEN upgrade. Any suggestions?

Ordered June 20, Received July 19 with Lion

I ordered mine June 20th, was supposed to get it July 25th, but it came on the 19th. It had Lion on it so now I'm waiting for "approval" to upgrade for free - had to fill in a bunch of detail to prove that I qualify for this. Hopefully I can do the upgrade / migration (in which order?) today some time, but so far haven't received the email approval...

I did a a straight upgrade rather than a clean install and everything moved over quick and painless.

So go ahead and migrate 1st?

Thanks. So I take it that I might as well migrate my files over, and then, when they give me the ok to update, just "do it". I really want to start using it more than on the internet and mail, etc.

----------

I see that the mail, via the iCloud, did its nice migration, but the rules I had set in Preferences on the old machine didn't seem to apply any more. I have "lots of rules" to avoid having to look at all the mail that comes through, so that's important to me... Is there a way to copy the rules too? Or should I just put them in again on the new machine?

You don't have to move stuff around for the upgrade, a simple backup before upgrading is sufficient.

Well my rMBP came in today but I chose to wait and pick it up this weekend so I get the tax free discount. I want my laptop. :(

I just purchased my 15 inch regular macbook pro the other day.

I had a retina display pro, but to be honest, the hardware is not ready for it, and I am not going to pay for something that is not really there yet.

Next years Haswells processors will be so much better for the retina display, and I will keep this 15 inch until then, and then sell it.

So much happier with the regular than the retina.

Oober Excited!

I just purchased my FIRST Macbook Pro about an hour ago!!

I'm so excited! It's for college and I maxed out the top 13". (Mainly for portability.) Even with an SSD! Sorry for bragging, but that's what we're doing here, right?!

Congrats to the rest of you who just got/purchased theirs!!

At the proper distance, a 27" Thunderbolt display excellent clarity.

It will be some time before we see a 27" Retina display.

I was going to say the same thing. With my rMBP and Thunderbolt display side by side I can hardly tell the difference. The TB display quality is astounding. When I first received my rMBP I was using a 24in Dell Ultrasharp and the difference in quality was hugely noticeable. I don't even think the TB display *needs* retina to be honest, the quality is amazing as-is (light years ahead of the 24in Dell monitor).

Just Bought my First MBP Ever!

Hey MR,

I am medical student, and finally have managed to purchase a rMBP after many days of research! I am extremely amped up about it since it is a great investment for my career.

Specs: 15'' 2.6ghz//8gb//512gb.

1) Any recommendations or advice for Apps or any medical related software? Keep in mind, I have not purchased any software from Apple, and my rMBP will be coming stock. What sort of Software should I be looking at for my MB?

2) Ive been browsing the other threads in search of a solid case for it. (Anything like an Otterbox?)

3) I, (obviously like the rest of you of course) would love to keep it in 100% condition throughout. With that being said, are Keyboard//Trackpad//Screen covers good for this? Any recommendations of which ones are great?

4) For those who have already received their rMBPs, please share your thoughts, insights.. pros and cons.

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks and take care.

A word of advice. Don't go looking for software to install. Only do so when you actually have a need for the software.

You guys seem well informed about shipping times, etc. so I would like to know what are my chances of getting a retina from a New York store when I visit from Scotland at the end of August?

they should be availible now because it has been well over a month and especially with the shipping dates decreased , should mean they have more supplies??
