Just got a rMBP today, bought it used from a person locally. I think I got a pretty good deal, it is around 3 months old and is the version with the i7 2.7ghz 16gb ram and 512gb ssd and paid $1650 for it. Display looks really nice (Samsung) and its not showing any signs of lagging at present. Very pleased.

I admire those that are buying now. They say if you need it now, buy it now. I certainly do, but given how much better the hardware is, I'm doing my best to wait. Especially if we see a July release.
There's always a "refresh" around the corner. Not too long ago people couldn't wait for the ones that are available now. If you wait, you'll wish you waited for the refresh that comes after the next one. Just buy the damn thing!
It's diff when you're a month or two away from a next gen processor in a next gen product. It'll be another year before intel's next processor people who are direly waiting now for haswell will certainly not wait a whole nother year... They just don't wanna buy something now 2k+ that going to be old in a couple months, "old" after a year is expect but just days...it's hard to justify buying that unless you're in it for the savings because the newer model is just around the corner.
Sincerely,
Haswell rMBP waiter![]()
Exactly. I've been waiting since March, and I'm not about to buy the current rMBP when the Haswell update will bring big changes. It's not just about waiting for the next thing around the corner.
Yeah I mean a lot of people say like you can't always be waiting because technology is always progressing, which is true but to a certain point. If the next gen is a month or so away, waiting for that is not only smart but also your best option to have a better longevity with that product and have it worth more when you sell. If you buy now, a month or so later you'll have an "old" model and therefore instantly lose more value for that. If it haswell was a year away it would be different, even 6 months away you shouldn't have to wait, but a month or so? It's a no brainer, hell Haswell can be released in the next few weeks when Apple announces BTS, who knows?
There's no way the current Ivy Bridge models are worth full retail right now. On the other hand if you can get a significant discount now it might be worth it. That $600+ you save now can go towards your future Broadwell+ MBP.
Obviously, as for me though if you take the current rMBP give it a 2-3 hour battery boost and small CPU increase(haswell), next gen SSDs, and the new wifi...That's more than a perfect computer for me. I would have no use for broadwell, the rMBP now is already a beast and if it gets those 3 new changes it'll be just about the perfect computer with no compromises; lightweight, powerful, thin, beautiful screen, 10+ hours of battery life(hopefully), fast, I mean I couldn't be disappointed. And if theses prove to be true broadwell will mean nothing(for me).
I agree. Apple's Haswell refresh hopefully will "have it all" - especially if you have PCI-e SSDs, 802.11 ac WiFi and Thunderbolt 2 ports coming.
On the other hand there are new trends out there that it probably won't be able to handle fluently. Native 4K video and gaming for example. I.e. technology won't stop advancing in 2014.
Ultimately the "new hardware" bug bites hard every time a new model is announced regardless, and eventually we all give in and question our current purchase, whether it is Haswell, Broadwell, Skylake, Skymont, etc. Jump in now, or later, there will always be something better next year. The point is you have to bite at some point, and you'll undoubtedly question that purchase ~ one year later when the next big thing comes out.
Update. Picked up the 13" rMBP today that I ordered! It is beautiful. I don't know what to do with it...but it's beautiful.

I just got a refurbished macbook pro retina 15" on saturday.
It is so beautiful!
However.... One problem started today.
There is always a noise while im watching movie. It's like a tik sound from speckers but very short. It only happens when play it loud
It only makes noise 3 times (always) and gone.
But it always comes back later if im still watching movie or youtube.
Should i return it and get a replacement?
Congrats! What a good deal. Was it a refurb?
Absolutely. I got a refurb last week and the keyboard on it is a bit off....keys are angled forward like they aren't seated right in the shell. On the phone with Apple now to get a replacement sent out.
You have a limited window to make sure a fairly expensive purchase is up to your liking. I wouldn't settle when you notice an issue during that return period.
Do you think I should return and re-purchase a new one OR just call apple and get a replacement?
I'm new to apple so I don't know which choice is better. Thank you very much
