Ordered my 13" on the 6th. 2.6 / 16 / 512

Says that I should be able to pick it up by the 14th... Apprehensive about my first mac :/

Haven't been on here for a looooooooong time. May I ask are you in the UK cause mines meant to arrive today but it's in Kazakhstan and UPS are still stating that it will be delivered by the end of today

Yep, I'm in the UK and yes mine is due for delivery today. UPS is currently recording departure scan from Almaty, Kazakhstan.

TBH, it really suits me to receive delivery tomorrow but don't understand why UPS haven't updated scheduled delivery date.

I don't understand why they haven't updated it but mine must be with yours as that was the last scan on mine which means the next stop is Cologne, Germany and then the UK. Bit annoyed that it hasn't come today as the shipping apple has used was meant to be guaranteed delivery today. (Checked the delivery date myself before it was dispatched). This is my first mac so I'm mega excited :)

It's my first Mac too. I'm a system analysis so work with PC's exclusively for my job. I wanted something completely different for my personal use so went for a Mac. Been debating it for a while and finally bit the bullet.

What configuration did you go for? Mine is 13" 2.4-16-256. :apple:

I agree it gets repetitive using windows all the time (although I'll need it on my mac). I went for the 2.8-16-512 not quite sure if I need all that power but maybe I will. I can't wait for it to come always wanted one since I saw the PowerBook I believe it was when I was a kid :)

Edit:
Not sure if you've seen but it's in Cologne, Germany should ship over here tonight ready for delivery tomorrow. UPS guy usually comes around dinner time for me so I'll be glued to the front window all morning providing it's out for delivery ;)

Just checked UPS. They still haven't updated the scheduled delivery date.

I think you're right, we'll get delivery tomorrow. All my other deliveries from UPS have arrived after 6pm, think it's because I'm near Heathrow so they deliver to me last.

Will be happy to see that 'Out for delivery' notification.

Edit: I've wanted a Mac for years but could never justify it to myself. I often work from home so always required windows PC. I'll still have my windows PC solely for work (laptop supplied by employer) but my Macbook will be mine for everything else. Never the twain shall meet. Indulgent right?

What's always stopped me from having one was the cost but as the saying goes "good things come to those who wait" well I've waited and at last I can have one. I'll be installing Windows 8 onto mine which will be interesting as I've never used it before only seen it in action. Indulgent....no.

Hmmm I believe UPS's hub or at least it's main one is at Castle Donnington which is close to me as I live in Derby. That's if it goes there. Yours will have a bit longer journey but I'm positive it will arrive tomorrow. Might pop on here to say it's arrived if it's out for delivery.

Edit: Just found that it most likely will arrive at EMA UPS there take deliveries from Cologne

Fingers crossed for delivery tomorrow :)

UPS now stating scheduled delivery: information not available at this time. Import scan at 22.19 (our time). Hope it travels well overnight. The suspense is just killing me.

I'll definitely post here if it arrives tomorrow. If it doesn't I'll be sulking too much to type out anything coherent. :(

Mine arrived at about 9.30. It came from Germany to Stansted Airport. Its a lovely bit of kit and the screen is amazing. What has struck me first is the keyboard and the wrist rest space, it makes it really comfortable to use.

Hope your's comes today if it isn't already with you.

Mine has arrived as we'll about an hour ago I know loving it and I've only really just started playing with it. :D

I've been playing for about 2 hours now and had to google tonnes of stuff already. Drag n drop to name but one. I also found there is no auto-capitalisation which is a little annoying but still it is a total beauty. Rather use shift key than deal with tonnes of useless bloat that comes with Windows.

I'm thankful I had the day off today for total peace to test this beast out.

Yes it definitely requires a full day to play with it l have got today and the weekend to play with it. Agreed auto caps would be nice improvement in the next big update. Something like iPads and iPhones work would be good. I must say I'm loving it, its very fast and the build quality is fantastic. I love it to bits :)

I can now see why there are so many Mac fanatics. Think I might become one of them. I haven't even finished with the setup yet and I'm still happy with it. Usually I'm obsessive about getting everything exactly how I what it, but with this I'm happy to plod along and play.

Haven't got an optical drive yet but I may well venture into LoveFilms later to check out the screen (not really a film - TV type of person).

So happy I finally did this though. No regrets as yet.

Agreed Mac's and their OS are great. This machine is lightning fast. No Regrets for me either. I nearly ordered an SuperDrive for mine but thought I might live with out it....turns out I was wrong still want to play/use some CD/DVD's might get one when I can.

I've had mine for a few days now.. Know what, no biggie. Lot's of money for a lappy. Won't be taking it back, but, really, not worth the cash. Love the frame, OS, but it's nothing special like most Fan boys say it is.

Sorry, just speaking from my own experience. It's no faster, no more stable, really, nothing special. I do enjoy that it is different, but I wouldn't say that it's the laptop of all laptops.

I have a mini, apple tv, and had an iphone. So it's not like I have no experience in the apple world. So I speak as I see and use it. it's nice to use a lighter (as in weight) lappy, but the "god like" sense i have read from apple people, is just not there. Sorry, not flaming, just stating it as I see it.

1 - No. Bootcamp assistant will work. Treat yourself to a shiny new USB 3.0 drive to make this easier. There's a thread here somewhere... https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1671442/

2 - Not really. Even on windows I never had virus protection and was fine. Don't download something if you don't know where it came from. Use standard porn websites etc. etc. TL;DR - No.

3 - The only 'performance' limitation you'll run into is that you have less storage space. Diff OS's don't affect hardware. Certain things will run better on OSX, some things better on windows. Having two OSs will not affect how one program runs on OSX, though, for example.

Thank you Leudast! Your input is appreciated!

Anyone who knows how much Space W8 and OS X take up?

Also I'm wondering if I should go for 2.3GHz or special order a 2.6GHz. Purely objectively, I doubt I would see any difference in day to day usage. Only difference would be if I'd video & photo edit. But since I don't do that, a 2.6GHz processor ought to be unnecessary? Of course I'm going to game, but a 0.3GHz difference isn't going to be the responsible bottleneck, correct? I could do a lot other fun with that money, instead of spending it on a placebo...

Hi, I'm not sure how much exactly each OS takes up exactly but I gave them about 20GB each just for the OS itself which is more than enough.

Personally if you want to go for the 2.3ghz model go for it after all remember these have turbo boost so can go faster than 2.3 I'm not sure what speed is its top but mines a 2.8ghz which goes up to 3.3ghz which I catcher it doing yesterday when I was doing some programming and browsing the web and a load of other stuff.

As you said the money could be well spent elsewhere so go for the lower spec if you think you'll be ok with this as you said .3ghz probably won't make too much of a difference.

I hope this is of some use to you and if you have anymore questions I personally would be happy to reply :)

guess monday is no longer a go, "adverse" weather conditions, my PKG is stuck in AZ, and no word when they will update

That must be annoying hopefully it will come soon. There's always something which ruins ones excitement :(

Alright, thank you! My plan is to avoid the 0.3GHz upgrade, putting that money on apple care later this year instead.

To my next question. Since the laptop consumes little energy, I was thinking of donating the CPU and GPU power to folding@home during nights and the days that I don't bring the laptop to school. How's the laptop going to coap with such high usage? I mean, should I avoid it in order to prolong the computer's life? Perhaps I should get a cooling pad. During a typical 24 hour day we're looking at folding@home 80%, light usage 10% and gaming 10%.

Perhaps getting a cooling pad would allow turbo boost to be used more extensively and also hinder GPU throttling? I'm considering using the laptop for a week and then make a decision in this matter...

Also I think I'm going to try and get rid of the laptop as the 3rd year approaches.

all retina lovers will think this is crazy ...

but I'm super happy to have found (and ordered) the last ever made anti-glare (mid 2012) with 2.7Ghz as refurb for 2400$. 2.7Ghz was the max (BTO) back then and it's still as fast as the 2.3Ghz late 2013, kinda ok.
http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks

Have 960ssd plus 128ssd from my 2010 to put in there. Upgrading to 16GB Ram ofc. Only stuck with 802.11n and TB1, else happy as can be.

A bit strange to buy a machine that's almost 2 yrs old. But they're not bringing anti-glare back, so happy to got the last and fastest. Guys, no intention to start over a anit-glare vs retina discussion. Cheers.

This is my 7th power-/macbook since 1995 and my 2nd refurb:)

Finally!

Hello all!

this is my first post here. Long time lurker :). After wanting a 15" Macbook pro for a couple of years, I finally have one! I ordered it online to have it shipped to the apple store on the 6th. Everyday i would check the order status to see if it changed. My computer was set to be here on the 16th, but I got an email from apple on the 13th that it was ready for pickup! Just in time for class (hopefully i'll be able to focus in class).
Its a really great machine. No screen problems whatsoever. Very happy about this purchase. Typing on it now:D:apple:

Here are my specs:
15.4'
2.6 GHz
16 GB RAM
512 GB
