256GB SSD Slow Write Speed

Picked up my MBPr 13 yesterday. 2.4GHz, 256GB, 16GB.

Here is the Write Speed: 550mb/s way too slow. Should be able to hit 700mb/s according to many sources. What's wrong? Anyone know?

A month ago I ordered a custom 15" Haswell i7, 16Gb 512Gb 750M, with the faster 2.6GHz processor upgrade. [...]

An update: The reseller contacted me today saying that "my" computer arrived, after five weeks. Guess what?

It was totally the wrong model, a 13" machine. Words cannot describe the dissapointment and frustration. I actually need this thing for work, and I'm worried I'm going to be out of the country before it finally arrives.

:/

Wow I actually feel sorry for you, you should of just ordered from the apple store online I'm not sure which country your from or what reseller your using but it seems like their completely taking the p*** out of you. If I had that kind of service I would demand that they either fix it quick or give me my money back I mean to wait over a month is slightly annoying but to get the wrong model all together just wow, that's the most awful customer service I've ever heard/seen.

Anyway on the other hand I really hope you get your macbook soon make sure you keep us up to date I for one am rather interested as to what they are playing at and how long it's going to take to get it sorted.

Best of luck,
Brett

Last week I picked up my warranty replacement rMBP (2.6GHz/16GB/1TB/750M).

As annoying as the process was (took a month), the result was a mostly perfect computer.

Only issue was very high idle temperatures. Instead of having to deal with migrating my data again, I decided to fix this myself.

Just last night I did a thermal paste replacement. Dropped an idle temp of 50ºC to only 35ºC in the same environment. I think they used too much paste in the factory. It was overflowing onto the motherboard. Sadly I did have to remove the plastic insulator around the processor to clean it up. It's a plastic shim that fits on the resistors to prevent touching the copper heatsink. It doesn't stick back on; that's not an issue since technically their is quite a bit of clearance (I stuck a shim in there to check this).

In other news, I also applied a PowerSupport antiglare screen protector. It does add a bit of graininess to the display, but it's minimal and the overall the benefits of no glare far outweighs the minor effect. I'm very happy with the result; also it's no longer a fingerprint magnet (wipes off easily); no I don't touch my display, but plenty of other people do when they point at something on the screen.

My new Refurb arrived with a SURPRISE!!!

So I just got my new 15' rMBP refurb in the mail today waiting for me nicely on the porch. After letting it warm up to something other than 15 degrees F and come to room temperature I started the process of porting things over from my old 13" MBP. I go to check out what screen I received and it's a Samsung. I go to about this mac and low and behold.....I have an unexpected upgrade!!!!

I ordered a 2.0ghz i7 with 16GB Ram and a 1TB and what did I get, I got the 2.6ghz i7!!!!!! No discrete graphics but honestly I don't need the graphics anyways. HOLY COW!!! I'm super excited now!!! I went and checked the packing list, yep it says 2.0ghz but there is a 2.6 in there!!!

LOVE the refurb store!!!!

That never happens to me!

Received my rMBP 13" today in the mail.
Very pleased with it so far, as always importing information and data on a Mac is as simple as a Username and Password.
Coming from only older macs, not even ones with backlit keyboards this is pleasantly new to me. The Retina is beautiful, the keyboard feels great and overall construction is awesome. Its interesting looking at this thin, light little thing and comparing it to another PC/Macbook and seeing how much power this packs. I hope it will last me more than a couple of years to come.
The feature that I think I appreciate the most is that Apple was able to give up it's ego and thin the bezels and get rid of all together the MacBook Pro under the screen, not sure why but it says something to me.
One last thing, this fan! During the "new computer data transfer" process I had it pretty well cranked up on work loud, checking iStat it read 89C. So I switched on the fan to High, the sound wasn't what I expected, more of a loud whisper than anything and it took care of that heat within a minute. Very pleased so far, wasn't sure how I felt about these intake grooves on the underside just for the sake of dust and particles but it's SO much better than previous cooling systems.

Macbook Pro with Retina 13"
i5 2.4GHz
16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
256 GB SSD

Nice, got an i7 upgrade for free myself last week. They're out there!

The thread refers to the fact only machines with dGPU (all 2012 /early 2013 15" rMBP and only late 15" rMBP with dGPU) can know panel brands with the terminal command. Through settings you can now panel number and perhaps correlate to the panel number on 15" rMBP.... Was that what you did or do you have a dGPU rMBP machine?

I just ordered a new 13" rMBP 2.4 8GB ram 128GB, I'm currently on a late 2008 aluminum macbook. Cant wait to get it!

Nice deal!

Sweet! Looks like the refurbs are back. Now if only I could decide between the 512gb SSD 13 model 8gb vs 16gb of ram. I wish the offered the 16gb on there. Noticed they added the decked out 13 though with 1tb and 16gb. So maybe there's hope yet!

Btw still running a 2006 core duo blackbook ATM

Well I just pulled the plug on the 8GB model. It was hard to justify the extra $500 for 16GB which I would have had to order as a BTO. Of course now that I got it watch the 16GB version show up in the refurb store.

Received my refurbished 13" 2.4 GHz i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD today, ordered on the 17th.

First thing I installed was BetterTouchTool, love it. All my files were in SkyDrive and Dropbox so I installed those and they finished syncing. Been installing some of most important programs and getting used to Mac OS. Wakes from sleep very very quickly.

One thing though, it was getting pretty warm. I couldn't hear the fans, I assumed it was because things had been syncing and downloading for a couple hours, so used my cooling pad to bring the temp down. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Thanks

There is only 1 fan in the Haswell 13" rMBP (bigger than the 2 fan setup on the 2012 and early 2013 13" rMBP). Mine only goes to higher rpm when doing multitasking of video related items; it feels a lot cooler than my previous 2012 13" rMBP. I suggest you install Temperature Gauge or similar so that you can monitor the fan speed and make comparisons for different scenarios.

We just got our new 13" rMBP 2.6GHz i5, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD! Our existing machine is an early 2008 white 13" MacBook, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4MB RAM and 750GB HDD running 10.6.8.

How do I do a data migration using my Time Machine back up? Will it be obvious when I hook it up? Should I do a complete backup of my old MB first to ensure nothing is lost in the incremental back up process?

Thanks!

Dante

Just do a final backup and turn off the old machine. When you boot up the new laptop it will walk you through the Time Machine migration steps. Very easy.

Would there be a problem if the new MBP had already been turned on? Already have used it to sign on to iCloud and Facebook. Genius bar misunderstood about me doing the migration myself and they hooked up my wife's phone to the machine when she picked it up.

Thanks.
