Just snagged the last October 2013 high end 13" Retina with 16gb from the refurbished store to replace my OG 15". Looking forward to receiving.
Alright, thank you! My plan is to avoid the 0.3GHz upgrade, putting that money on apple care later this year instead.
To my next question. Since the laptop consumes little energy, I was thinking of donating the CPU and GPU power to folding@home during nights and the days that I don't bring the laptop to school. How's the laptop going to coap with such high usage? I mean, should I avoid it in order to prolong the computer's life? Perhaps I should get a cooling pad. During a typical 24 hour day we're looking at folding@home 80%, light usage 10% and gaming 10%.
Perhaps getting a cooling pad would allow turbo boost to be used more extensively and also hinder GPU throttling? I'm considering using the laptop for a week and then make a decision in this matter...
Also I think I'm going to try and get rid of the laptop as the 3rd year approaches.
Hi all,
A month ago I ordered a custom 15" Haswell i7, 16Gb 512Gb 750M, with the faster 2.6GHz processor upgrade. I placed the order through a third-pary authorized reseller, not the Apple Store. It was meant to be delivered to their shop, but so far, no word from them.
Have you guys heard anything about there being delays on any models right now? There was apparently a 13" 16Gb shortage over Christmas but what about 15"ers? I'm not getting any updates at all from the store so I guess I'm asking what to expect and trying to find out what I can for myself. Thanks!

Hi, I've just had a look online for this exact build and it reportedly dispatches in 2-4 days. It usually takes no more than five days to arrive so I would go and see them or phone them up as this seems a very long time to wait for something that is dispatching quick.
Thanks for the reply.
I went back to the store to ask some questions in person. The clerk seemed surprised it was taking this long, and said he'd call Apple and try to find out what the order status is and see if there was a shipping date, since their own simply says "Processing".
He also tried to sell me on the idea that the (much quicker) Apple Store delivery estimates are inaccurate and that if I cancel my order and order online I'll just get a call from Apple saying it's delayed. I don't know if I should beleive that. Thoughts?
I ordered the 13" rMBP with 2.4 i5, 8gb, 256gb in Canada. Says estimated delivery is January 27-30th, has anyone ordered from here and have a good estimate?
Also, any good tips on switching all my data and such? I wrote down all the programs I need so will install them once I get it. For Skydrive and Dropbox, if I install the mac clients it should sync all the files to my Macbook correct? So I can avoid copying across all those files.
Thankss
Yep that's what should happen with Dropbox and Skydrive, after all that's what there designed to do![]()
Thanks! That's what I'm expecting but better safe than sorry!
I'm a little late to the party. Unboxed my new 13" rMBP, 2.8 GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD on Christmas Day. Been busy since then getting it set up with Boot Camp Windows 8.1 Pro and Parallels. Had to research backup options, and settled on Carbon Copy Cloner for the Mac Partition and Winclone for Boot Camp. I save my Winclone Images on the Mac partition, and keep 2 current CCC backups on 2 HGST Touro Mobile Pro 1TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drives. Love the bootable Backups with CCC.
OK, so now I can finally relax and enjoy my sexy new baby!![]()
Concerning Parallels and Boot camp, which do you prefer? Do you happen to know which takes up more hard drive space?
Just purchased slightly used (about 1.5 months old) 13.3" 2.8Ghz i7 w/16GB and 512GB SSD for $1900.
This will be my 4th Macbook. I had an old 1.83Ghz Core Duo I used for almost five years, and have had two MBAs since then, latest being a mid-2011 1.7Ghz i5. Went and handled the rMBP vs. the MBA and was sold.
This is my primary computer and I needed something with more RAM and didn't want to wait for the retina MBA. Going to have to swap out my MBA Henge Dock for a MBP one.
I like both. Parallels for when I want to quickly access a windows app, and boot camp for when I want the full-on Windows, for serious work in something like Microsoft Access.Concerning Parallels and Boot camp, which do you prefer? Do you happen to know which takes up more hard drive space?
received my 13" refurb today - got a free $200 i7 upgrade it looks like. Thanks apple!![]()
