Just snagged the last October 2013 high end 13" Retina with 16gb from the refurbished store to replace my OG 15". Looking forward to receiving.

Alright, thank you! My plan is to avoid the 0.3GHz upgrade, putting that money on apple care later this year instead.

To my next question. Since the laptop consumes little energy, I was thinking of donating the CPU and GPU power to folding@home during nights and the days that I don't bring the laptop to school. How's the laptop going to coap with such high usage? I mean, should I avoid it in order to prolong the computer's life? Perhaps I should get a cooling pad. During a typical 24 hour day we're looking at folding@home 80%, light usage 10% and gaming 10%.

Perhaps getting a cooling pad would allow turbo boost to be used more extensively and also hinder GPU throttling? I'm considering using the laptop for a week and then make a decision in this matter...

Also I think I'm going to try and get rid of the laptop as the 3rd year approaches.

We'll until now I hadn't hear of folding@home, but with a little bit of knowledge about it I know what it is, it certainly seems like a good idea. Regarding your concern about your computers life and this I will say one thing that it may effect and that's the battery as you will probably be unplugging it while your out your going to put your battery through a lot more charge cycles that could eventually reduce battery performance.

However you can have these batteries replaced at your own cost although if your thinking of getting rid of your computer as your third year approaches your unlikely to need to (although you didn't say when this is).

Now the cooling mat, this might be a good investment although I'm not entirely sure but when I play Just Cause 2 on my macbook it really starts to heat up to the point where it hurts to touch the base, I'm not sure if that program would do that to your mac but if it did I would advise plugging it in as with the fan maxed out and the CPU and GPU going as fast as they can it's sure going to take some power.

If you've got anymore questions for me feel free to ask. I'm more than happy to reply. I hope again this is some help to you. ;)

Delivery times on 15" 16Gb?

Hi all,

A month ago I ordered a custom 15" Haswell i7, 16Gb 512Gb 750M, with the faster 2.6GHz processor upgrade. I placed the order through a third-pary authorized reseller, not the Apple Store. It was meant to be delivered to their shop, but so far, no word from them.

Have you guys heard anything about there being delays on any models right now? There was apparently a 13" 16Gb shortage over Christmas but what about 15"ers? I'm not getting any updates at all from the store so I guess I'm asking what to expect and trying to find out what I can for myself. Thanks!

Hi, I've just had a look online for this exact build and it reportedly dispatches in 2-4 days. It usually takes no more than five days to arrive so I would go and see them or phone them up as this seems a very long time to wait for something that is dispatching quick.

Thanks for the reply.

I went back to the store to ask some questions in person. The clerk seemed surprised it was taking this long, and said he'd call Apple and try to find out what the order status is and see if there was a shipping date, since their own simply says "Processing".

He also tried to sell me on the idea that the (much quicker) Apple Store delivery estimates are inaccurate and that if I cancel my order and order online I'll just get a call from Apple saying it's delayed. I don't know if I should beleive that. Thoughts?

Apple put their online & apple retail stores first other retailers stores come last
specially with BTO only once bought from retailers for BTO but never again

Finally after many years....

Well i finally bought my first laptop. i Choose to go with a macbook pro looks like i should be delivered on the 22nd. I bought:

Refurbished 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel i7 with Retina Display

Originally released October 2013
15.4-inch (diagonal) Retina display; 2880-by-1800 resolution at 220 pixels per inch
16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
1TB Flash Storage1
720p FaceTime HD camera
Intel Iris Pro Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M

and got the apple care to go along with it. i dont think i did to bad and im sure ill enjoy it for many years to come.

This is my first mac other then my iphone. so im pretty new to OS in general. ive alway built my own desktops and have mainly used windows. if anyone can offer up a good source for information it would be extremely helpful. i dont plan on using the mac for hardcore gaming i will just be using my custom PC to do that heavy lifting. this will just mainly for my personal business stuff and video edit and what not, but i would like to be able to set it up to be able to boot in windows if and when i choose to. other then that i hope my exprience goes well ive been waiting a long time to buy one.

I ordered the 13" rMBP with 2.4 i5, 8gb, 256gb in Canada. Says estimated delivery is January 27-30th, has anyone ordered from here and have a good estimate?

Also, any good tips on switching all my data and such? I wrote down all the programs I need so will install them once I get it. For Skydrive and Dropbox, if I install the mac clients it should sync all the files to my Macbook correct? So I can avoid copying across all those files.

Thankss

Yep that's what should happen with Dropbox and Skydrive, after all that's what there designed to do :)

I'm a little late to the party. Unboxed my new 13" rMBP, 2.8 GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD on Christmas Day. Been busy since then getting it set up with Boot Camp Windows 8.1 Pro and Parallels. Had to research backup options, and settled on Carbon Copy Cloner for the Mac Partition and Winclone for Boot Camp. I save my Winclone Images on the Mac partition, and keep 2 current CCC backups on 2 HGST Touro Mobile Pro 1TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drives. Love the bootable Backups with CCC.

OK, so now I can finally relax and enjoy my sexy new baby! :)

Concerning Parallels and Boot camp, which do you prefer? Do you happen to know which takes up more hard drive space?

Just got my new MBP Retina 13 8gb/250gb (Late 2013), really happy with it. I am so glad to be working on a Mac again. I was really annoyed with my Windows machine.

Just purchased slightly used (about 1.5 months old) 13.3" 2.8Ghz i7 w/16GB and 512GB SSD for $1900.

This will be my 4th Macbook. I had an old 1.83Ghz Core Duo I used for almost five years, and have had two MBAs since then, latest being a mid-2011 1.7Ghz i5. Went and handled the rMBP vs. the MBA and was sold.

This is my primary computer and I needed something with more RAM and didn't want to wait for the retina MBA. Going to have to swap out my MBA Henge Dock for a MBP one.

Very nice find! That is a very good price for the max-out (memory & processor) model; I paid $2400 for mine, which is the same as yours but with the bigger drive (1TB).

Welcome to the 13" rMBP 16 GB Ram club!

P.D. What screen does your machine has? Mine is the A018, so far no ghosting !

Ordered my MacBook Pro with Retina 13" last week,
Order shipped this morning (January 20th)

MacBook Pro with Retina 13"
i5 Dual-core 2.4GHz (Turbo 2.9GHz)
16GB Ram
256GB Storage

Hoping that this machine will serve me well in Art school and beyond. Reason that if I can edit my photographic work to look amazing on a Retina display it'll look fabulous on any other screen, a shining portfolio.
I plan on travelling as well, the size and weight are reasonable it was a hard choice between the MBA 13" until I dug a little deeper... and dat retina <3

Arrival date is set for as early as January 24th to January 30th.

I like both. Parallels for when I want to quickly access a windows app, and boot camp for when I want the full-on Windows, for serious work in something like Microsoft Access.

----------

My original plan was for a 500 GB SSD and 16GB RAM, but when I was ready to order, nobody had that config ready for delivery, and I wanted to have it by Christmas. So since I was able to get a good price at B&H Photo, with discounted Applecare, free shipping and no sales tax, that helped me rationalize spending the additional $$$ for a config with a 1 TB SSD.

And I'm glad I did: With Windows/Bootcamp and Mavericks, and all my files and backups, I would be feeling cramped with only 500GB, and I've also learned that the 1 TB SSDs are faster.

So I'm very pleased that I upgraded.
